Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

My dad wanted Tracey. Nothing wrong with it as such but I'm glad they didn't go with that. What they went with was very 70's though. Went through most of my life not knowing anyone with the same name but have ended up in a village where there are 3 other women of the same name! 😆

Miltonj · 28/05/2020 11:55

Storm or jael! In the early 90's

I used to wish they had called me storm when I was a child but I'm pretty pleased they didn't now!

sergeilavrov · 28/05/2020 11:55

Bob or Myra. My mum is not British, and my dad had to explain why Myra is a bad choice to a very cross pregnant woman. I’m very thankful I wasn’t a boy!

AnnieGetYerGun · 28/05/2020 11:56

Angharad. We aren’t even Welsh! 🤣
My dad had a crush on the actress Angharad Rees, apparently.

Thecomfortador · 28/05/2020 11:57

Briony (or Bryony I'm not sure which). Think I might prefer it to my actual name.

bearlyactive · 28/05/2020 11:58

I would have been Daniel if I was a boy, and my parent's initial choice of names when I was born was Lucy. Then they changed their mind and tried to make my middle name Elizabeth - but that would have made my initials into a word so they decided on my actual name, which I am happy with.

PennyPincher64 · 28/05/2020 11:58

My sister was going to be Edwina but in the end they went for Lydia

1forsorrow · 28/05/2020 11:58

Isabelle after a wealthy great aunt in the hopes I'd get her money. Don't know where that came from as my parents weren't like that. Anyway she lived along time, spent nearly all of the money (good for her) and left the money that was left to my gran which was nice. I never met her but heard many stories about her from my gran and mum.

Magpiecomplex · 28/05/2020 11:59

Sybil. Very pleased I avoided that!

TheCanyon · 28/05/2020 11:59

Leann. My cousin was born 6 weeks before me and they named her leann. So I got a completely ridiculous made up name instead with middle name Clare

ProseccoBubbleFantasies · 28/05/2020 11:59

Richard. But I was a girl

BikeRunSki · 28/05/2020 12:01

My parents decided the name of their first daughter on their first date (They both collect different editions of a famous book with a girls name in the title). They had 2 boys before me.... my boy name would have been Ignatius.

Athrawes · 28/05/2020 12:01

Cuthbert

MeOldBamboo · 28/05/2020 12:01

Mercedes (because my dad wanted one). A lucky escape considering my very British surname

SpecialKakapo · 28/05/2020 12:01

Roberta Confused

TheTroutofNoCraic · 28/05/2020 12:02

Jennifer (early 80s)
I don't feel like a Jennifer, although I hated my name as a child and wished I was Jennifer...I'm older now and happy with my given name.

SweetPetrichor · 28/05/2020 12:02

I was going to be a Ruth, but thankfully they changed their mind. I still have it as a middle name and I loathe it...sorry to any Ruth's out there!

20viona · 28/05/2020 12:02

Augustus! Thank god im a girl.

Pascha · 28/05/2020 12:03

If I had been a boy I would have been Julian. Thank god I'm not Confused.

DH was very nearly Quentin.

Bubbletrouble43 · 28/05/2020 12:03

Rosemary
Always my dms favourite name, but apparently she looked at me when I was born and thought no. ( apparently I was a huge fat dark hairy angry looking baby)

LusciousV · 28/05/2020 12:03

Amy - dad's suggestion, mum wasn't keen. I'm glad Dad didn't get his way, it's far too feminine a name for my personality.

BinkySodPlop · 28/05/2020 12:03

Caroline. My dad said no. I ended up with something they both disliked the least. I've never liked it much, either, and it's never been at all popular, so it seems that no-one ever has!

purpleposes · 28/05/2020 12:06

Natalie or Rebecca. My middle name is Rebecca but I'm very grateful my parents decided against Natalie.

panicstationsready · 28/05/2020 12:07

If I'd been a boy it would have been Keith - I don't think they had an alternative girls name, so I'm stuck with a very common 1960s name.

TimeWastingButFun · 28/05/2020 12:08

Rose
