Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

OP posts:

Jane. Not the flowery Jayne. The name they give me isn't flowery. In fact it's a name that wasn't on mugs, pens, keyrings, pencil cases etc when I was growing up. It's not an old lady name that has been resurrected and become popular either so as an adult I still can't get off the shelf personalised items Sad.

LunaNorth · 28/05/2020 12:08

Molly. Quite gutted about that as I have a 70s-tastic name instead.

Imgladimnotyourchild · 28/05/2020 12:09

Kirsty

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 28/05/2020 12:10

Fiona - which I probably wouldn't have minded tbh. I have a name that sounded dreadful in some U.K. dialects - particularly Yorkshire/South Humberside and can be quite hard for people outside the Uk to pronounce. As I work in a very international organisation, it's a bit of a pain in the arse, frankly.

RedRec · 28/05/2020 12:10

My dad was a big fan of the actor Tyrone Power so wanted to call him that (our surname sounds very similar to Power). Mum vetoed it so he vetoed her choice of Richard and he ended up with a very boring, and now old fashioned, name.

TildaTurnip · 28/05/2020 12:10

Chelsea or Fay.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 28/05/2020 12:11

If a boy Carl

Ideas for me were Sarah Jane, Emma Louise, Sarah Louise and , from D Dad Tallullah , Ha.

I ended up with neither of those names.

RedRec · 28/05/2020 12:11

Him = my brother.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 28/05/2020 12:14

Oh, if I'd been a girl I would have been named Holly, apparently.

Would have been ok I guess.

Bloodybridget · 28/05/2020 12:15

Penelope, but my father didn't want it to be shortened to Penny. I prefer the name I got.

justforthecake · 28/05/2020 12:15

It's far to revealing for those that know me.
But it was a real doozy- a true what the actual fuck we're they thinking, that poor child name. Luckily I had older siblings to veto for me!

tillytoodles1 · 28/05/2020 12:16

My dad was an only child and called my brother after his dad, who was called James. When I was born he wanted to call me Agnes after his mum
Luckily my mum said no

raspberryk · 28/05/2020 12:17

Apparently Rebecca, Victoria and Paige were in the running. I've got a top 20 name from the late 80's along with Louise as the middle name as did most of the girls at school. I think there were always about 3 girls sharing my name in each class. Sometimes including the middle name.

Helloagain20 · 28/05/2020 12:18

Elizabeth however someone else in family used it.
If I'd been a boy Richard (late 70s)

motorcyclenumptiness · 28/05/2020 12:19

David - but then I went and let the side down by not being a boy

queenofelves · 28/05/2020 12:19

Morag, dfs choice!!

ParkheadParadise · 28/05/2020 12:21

Mary
I'm the youngest of 6, by the time they had me I think my mum was out of names so thought let's just name her after me.
They gave me a double- barrelled name similar to my mum's.

InsaneProbably · 28/05/2020 12:21

I was almost a Hannah. Would have been a Harry, had I been a boy.
In the end DM insisted on something completely different.

Cattermole · 28/05/2020 12:22

Was going to be named after the midwife who delivered me, who was a delightful West Indian lady.
She was called Roxie. Which suited her admirably, but (according to her) would have made red-haired Lancastrian me sound like a stripper.

TheWashingMachine · 28/05/2020 12:22

Charlotte a better name than the one I got.

tiredanddangerous · 28/05/2020 12:23

Isobel. I would have much preferred it to be honest...it’s much nicer than my actual name!

alwaysscared · 28/05/2020 12:25

Bridie

If I was a boy, Joshua

Mimca · 28/05/2020 12:25

Ursula Confused but chose a name that is extremely popular now but was very uncommon nearly 50 years ago. Never met one at same age as me.

Alexander if I was a boy, which I love.

blancheduboiss · 28/05/2020 12:26

Kiri

Iwalkinmyclothing · 28/05/2020 12:27

Eloise (DM's choice) or Jennifer (DF's choice). They each hated the other's choice so my great grandma named me in the end! I quite like my name, but it's one that so many girls of my age group had. I would actually have preferred either of their first choices but hey ho.

My brother was going to be Claire, but then was a boy.
