Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

Amy

My parents had chosen the name Michael so there was a bit of a panic when I was born female. Mom wanted to call me Sharon (1970's) but Dad vetoed it as he didn't want people to call me Shaz. Instead they gave me a unisex family name which sounds very masculine when shortened, and I end up correcting people to call me the full version.

Andahelterskelterroundmylittle · 30/05/2020 17:03

Denise ...1966 👀

WiryTail · 30/05/2020 18:07

Justine. I wish I was, bloody hate what I got.

35andThriving · 30/05/2020 20:58

If I was a boy I would've been Daniel

ALongHardWinter · 30/05/2020 21:12

My parents considered Susan or Christine for me,but decided against them as they didn't want something that could be shortened. The name I have is impossible to shorten, but I'm glad that they chose it as I really dislike the name Susan (very popular when I was young) and I'm not too keen on Christine either.

Pippapotomus · 30/05/2020 21:54

My parents didn't find out the sex until I was born. I have an older brother and sister so they were happy with a surprise.

It would have been Phillip, but I'm a Philippa.

Hassled · 30/05/2020 22:13

I was nearly an Esther. It would have been unusual for my generation. Maybe not as unusual as the unpronounceable Gaelic name I ended up with, mind you.

Flymetothetoon · 30/05/2020 22:33

Paul my parents were sure I was going to be a boy so they had no girl names .

Flymetothetoon · 30/05/2020 22:35

So they added an A to the end 🙄

Linnet · 30/05/2020 23:51

I was going to be Debbie, Caroline or the name that they went with. I have gone through phases of not liking my name very much, there were also 5 of us in my year at secondary school, but I guess it’s ok and I don’t mind it too much now. I think I’d rather have been called Caroline if given the choice. I’m not sure what I’d have been called if I’d been a boy.
My dd1 was almost Megan but dd2 was always her name. If either of them had been a boy he would have been Caleb.

When I had DC3, then DH went home from hospital with a daughter called Mia. He came to pick us up in the morning, me and our daughter....Harriet :o

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/05/2020 00:50

I would love to know how many of us are called Emma, Claire or Jane on here!

70's rule :o

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/05/2020 00:51

Oooh or the 70's ultimate....Emma-Jane. That was the 70's equivalent of Lily-May!

jaded247 · 31/05/2020 00:52

Asma. Luckily they didn't otherwise I would've been bullied for the rest of my life.

PurpleFrames · 31/05/2020 00:54

Louise 🤢

InkieNecro · 31/05/2020 00:55

Tiffany. I don't like the name, but at least it wouldn't have been a wrong unique spelling.

RJnomore1 · 31/05/2020 00:57

I was bizarrely nearly cslled Gita. Before I married I was a Mc name. 😧

@PyongyangKipperbang DH has just made an espresso martini. I am not holding out much hope for tomorrow

I was actually named Lauren for a week, then Mum changed her mind!

Lauren was then reserved for baby no 2, who turned out to be my brother.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 31/05/2020 02:25

If I was a boy I was going to be paul.
Which I quite like.
I was going to be karen as a girl, until my dad was walking through the park and someone was telling at a karen and telling her off for something.
Other contenders were Daniel for a boy (my brother got that a few years later. He was going to be naomi if he was a girl)

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 31/05/2020 07:41

Joanne, but my surname began with J too so my parents decided against it. Good job I was a girl, I would have been Derek if I'd been a boy !Shock

SiaPR · 31/05/2020 07:44

Georgia which was pretty unusual in the 70s, not like now. But my name is even more unusual and I like that

Talcott2007 · 31/05/2020 08:01

My alternatives were Alice or Adam if I'd been a boy (born mid-80s) they went with a more unusual 'A' name almost unheard of being used for girls back then and is still more common for boys now.

BellsaRinging · 31/05/2020 08:11

Jemima (my mums fave, luckily my dad intervened). She also liked Tabitha...My dad liked the name my sister ended up with, which is nice than mine!
