Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

OP posts:

Apparently I was nearly Beverley. Don't like it. Don't like the name I've got either, and I'm 61!

Miriel · 28/05/2020 12:30

Kellie or Sandie, with those spellings. I like my actual name much better than either!

GrumpySausage · 28/05/2020 12:34

Fiona. And yet they ended up naming me a very 80s popstar name- talk about different tastes. I'm not a fan of either of them to be fair.

If I was a boy initially I would have been Guy but as my due date was very close to bonfire night, they settled on Ross.

Not a fan of my parents tastes 😁

DurhamDurham · 28/05/2020 12:34

I was almost Julia. My sister was almost Julia. My mum is upset that even though she now has four granddaughters and a great granddaughter she still doesn't have a Julia.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 28/05/2020 12:35

@ToilenStripes Emily Claire...... Don't tell me your actual name is Charlotte 😱 (Charlotte Sometimes)

Bakedpotatoandgin · 28/05/2020 12:36

I'm not sure what I might have been called. I do know that there were some pretty awful boys' names floating about for me and Dsis that had disappeared by the time DB was born, thank goodness

TeenPlusTwenties · 28/05/2020 12:36

Susan.
Luckily my cousin was born first and 'stole' the name. Smile

MummyGoingItAlone · 28/05/2020 12:39

Andrew if I was a boy, but as a girl I was Emmalynn-Marie. I’m just Emma these days or Mama...

AgentCooper · 28/05/2020 12:41

Bridget. Which I think is lovely!

majesticallyawkward · 28/05/2020 12:42

Sarah, and had my DH been a girl his parents had also chosen Sarah. A bit meh, but our actual names aren't particularly exciting either.

My children were almost Moya, Artemis or Lorelei (girl choices) or Eric, Titus, Stellan or Winston (boys choices), I do wonder what they'll think of those vs what they were actually called.

Goldenbear · 28/05/2020 12:43

Imogen, Verity or Gertie but my Dad wanted to use the first name of a female relative on the family tree.

Allmyeye · 28/05/2020 12:44

Someone I know was going to be called Pamela but when her dad went to register it he wasn’t sure how to spell it so he called her Susan instead.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 28/05/2020 12:49

Sarah - Mum's choice - my father said no apparently because paired with my surname it sounded like a servant 😵
Father's choice was Dorcas 😳

PrincessHoneysuckle · 28/05/2020 12:49

Rachael,Rebecca or Ruth

Candleabra · 28/05/2020 12:50

Jennifer

SharkasticRhymes · 28/05/2020 12:50

I was going to be a Ruth, but thankfully they changed their mind. I still have it as a middle name and I loathe it...sorry to any Ruth's out there!

Me too - or at least my grandmother campaigned for Ruth as a first name (it is also my middle name).

My parents almost called me Stephanie but my surname begins with F and they thought it was too many 'eff' sounds.

isseywith4vampirecats · 28/05/2020 12:52

my mom wanted to call me Stephanie and my dad said it was too uppity so I got called Isabel , but named my daughter Stephanie

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 28/05/2020 12:52

Daniel... I'm female.

Spied · 28/05/2020 12:55

80's child.
I was going to be Emma. I much prefer the name I was actually given though.
If I was a boy I was going to be Paul.

mylittleavalon · 28/05/2020 12:57

Patricia or Imogen ( because it can mean last daughter and I was the last child). Wouldnt have minded Imogen but am so so so glad I don't get called Pat or Trisha (sorry if you are called Pat or Trisha)

TeddyBeans · 28/05/2020 12:57

Nikita

Would have been Lewis if I had been a boy

DS would have been Olivia if he'd been a girl

SlothRunner · 28/05/2020 12:58

Sheila, I was born in the late 80s. So pleased they didn’t go with that!

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 28/05/2020 12:58

Loretta 😳 Safe to say it would not have suited me

HappyPunky · 28/05/2020 13:00

I was nearly felicity and nicknamed Fliss

notaclue19 · 28/05/2020 13:00

Emma - and I have always wished they had chosen it as I never really liked my name. My name has caused me a lot of grief in the past 😔
