What’s for dinner?

Looking forward to some interesting store cupboard creations!

Ours is nachos with pulled pork on top with Mexican spiced (probably completely inauthentic) rice. Pork and rice both from previous meals and out of the freezer, will add a tin of sweetcorn and maybe kidney beans depending on whether it looks enough (large family)

Crisps and dips bought this week as they were pretty much the only aisles that still contained food.

Carb heavy but I don’t care, I’ve had to cancel my wedding 😭

(Before anyone jumps on me yes I know my wedding is a small sacrifice and unimportant in the grand scheme of things but it’s still gutting)

Oh OP Thanks you are perfectly entitled to feel sad about your wedding.

have a right royal extravaganza when the world rights it's way up again.

I am marginally upset because we had to cancel our holiday to see DH's cousins which we were really looking forward to. We might never see his aunt again as she is 93.

Tonight we are having beef and carrot stew with cous cous. Tomorrow we are having pasta with tomato sauce. Last night we had baked beans on toast. I am alternating between fresh and store cupboard as much as possible to try and stave off food-related boredom setting until food supplies are stocked again.

Our lcoal businesses are beiung very creative. restauarants are shut but offering takeaway. Our butcher's is offering home delivery.

We've got chicken dippers, oven chips and veg- trying to clear freezer space for a couple more batch cooks. I'd like to say this is a kid-pleasing dinner but we're two thirty-somethings still ttc!

Fish pie here, probably with one of our precious tins of baked beans. Oh, the luxury!

SegregateMumBev · 21/03/2020 12:46

Something tagine-y. I could do with an aubergine and some couscous, so I may need to brave a shop later.

BlueMoonRising · 21/03/2020 12:48

Vegetable curry with an ahem unusual combination of ingredients.

I've never made curry using up brussel sprouts before...

Chewbecca · 21/03/2020 12:49

That sounds lovely OP. Sorry about the wedding, hopefully it is just postponed for now?

We normally either eat out or eat with friends on Sat eves so will be odd just us. Debated a takeaway but decided to save that for after work & decided to have some of the nicer food we have in.

We're having lamb chops from the freezer, some boulangere potatoes (sliced & baked with stock and onions). Couldn't get any fresh veg but have some leftover carrots and cauli which I will roast as they're going a bit soft. May add some precious frozen peas depending on the amount of carrot and cauli there is.

BlueMoonRising · 21/03/2020 12:49

No, not even at Christmas!

Chewbecca · 21/03/2020 12:49

Have you tried roasting your Brussels? I love em.

MaryBoBary · 21/03/2020 12:49

We are having chicken pie with mash and veg and then profiteroles for pudding!

TheGirlWhoLived · 21/03/2020 12:50

We’ve got a chickpea and aubergine curry planned! Some basmati rice and some naan and poppadoms Grin really looking forward to it

Raera · 21/03/2020 12:51

Toad in the hole. I bought some chicken sausages (only type left)
Unfortunately that will be the end of the flour.

BlueMoonRising · 21/03/2020 12:52

No Chewbecca, but I have some left so that's on for tomorrow!

golddustwomen · 21/03/2020 12:53

Chilli out of the freezer which my lovely dad dropped over last night.

Pyjamaface · 21/03/2020 12:54

Something with chicken breasts possibly goujons or schnitzel
Broccoli which is the last of my fresh veg, mash from a packet and maybe Yorkshire pudding depending on eggs

Lippy1234 · 21/03/2020 12:55

So sorry to hear you had to cancel your wedding, you must be gutted.

bemoreeverything · 21/03/2020 12:56

I have a Mumsnet chicken so I'm roasting it tonight. The remainder will be made into approximately 40 differ meals for 5 Grin

Lippy1234 · 21/03/2020 12:57

I’m going to have a takeaway delivered.
I haven’t left the house since Tuesday apart from an operation so am really looking forward to a treat.

Apolloanddaphne · 21/03/2020 12:57

My DD is bringing home food from the pub she works in. As they are closing now they had a lot of food to give away. I have no idea what she has got but she says there is loads!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/03/2020 12:59

Vege sausages made from caramelised onions, cannellini beans, breadcrumbs and cheese blended, rolled and crumbed with mash and brussels.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 21/03/2020 12:59

What?? No one is having baked beans and pasta?? I thought that was the new British national dish

drspouse · 21/03/2020 12:59

Pizza, I found some pasta flour and oddly it wasn't hard to get mozzarella or pizza topper.

PheasantOnACushion · 21/03/2020 13:01

BliueMoon if you need to use up brussels, I have recipe I reommend... even my brussels-hating DH loves it.

par boil, let cool. Marinate in olive oil, lemon juice and mint. Serve with bruschetta and feta.

Assuming of course one has the ingredients or can get the ingredients. But it is flipping good.

StrugglingThrough2 · 21/03/2020 13:03

Takeaway, Indian. Can’t wait. Leftovers tomorrow for Mother’s Day!! Not the dinner I was expecting tomorrow but I’ll enjoy it all the same Smile

DesLynamsMoustache · 21/03/2020 13:05

We actually got a fully stocked shop today from Tesco somehow so I'm going to batch cook some bolognaise and freeze as we have some veg that's starting to look a bit sad but I will not waste it!
