Anyone know a non fruit eater?

My 18 year old last ate fruit when he was 2 years old. He has always eaten practically everything else- the only things I can think of that he doesn’t like are sweet potatoes, tomatoes and fresh mackerel. I find this practically incomprehensible. He just says -and always has- “I don’t like it” He drinks orange and apple juice- and fruit juice based cocktails (!). Is there anyone on here that’s the same and can explain him to me? The rest of the family eat loads. I don’t think anything happened when he was two that would have put him off.

I'll eat some grapes or strawberries if they're put in front of me but would never seek a bit of fruit out to eat. I don't actively dislike them - but would much rather eat some cauliflower than an apple. I do like vegetables/salady stuff etc.

cptartapp · 06/10/2019 20:33

I could force down a banana or some strawberries in summer but wouldn't enjoy them. Apples, oranges, grapes etc no. Not for years. Don't like the taste and they don't fill you up. I will actively avoid choosing a dessert that contains fruit. Love veg though, eat loads of that.

My eldest likes berries sometimes, otherwise I just give her lots and lots of vegetables (which she loves). She doesn't like juice either, but will drink fruit flavoured fizzy drink if given the opportunity (OJ and lemonade at a push!). My middle child eats almost nothing but fruit. He is starting to accept a little bit more veg, but mostly to look at and play with more than actually eat. I don't eat a lot of fruit. I don't like most veg, but love most greens (cabbage, sprouts, kale, watercress, Rocket, spring greens, spinach, broccoli, green beans, cucumber and asparagus). I love citrus-y cocktails. I do like fruit-flavoured yoghurts and very tart fruit puddings like stewed rhubarb and lemon cheesecake but only if they aren't too sweet. I have probably gone a year without eating fruit, maybe two. I like tomatoes though, as do my kids, so if pasta sauce counts we eat fruit a lot I guess. Or pizza.

I like apples, but don't eat them often. I'll eat watermelon at a push, but it's a struggle. I remember liking bananas as a young child, no idea when that changed. It's not the flavour (eat and drink plenty of fruit flavoured stuff) it's the texture that I don't like.

inwood · 06/10/2019 21:08

I don't really, I'll eat strawberries and that's about it. I don't like fruit juice or smoothies either. I eat tons of veg and salad though.

hotdogwoof · 06/10/2019 21:09

I don't eat fruit or drink fruit juice. It's too sweet.

CandyflossKid · 06/10/2019 21:11

My twin boys are 18 and havent eaten fruit since they were toddlers. They were weaned on all sorts of pureed fruit but just refused to eat any sort of fruit since.
They do eat veg though.

SunshineCrocodile · 06/10/2019 21:13

My DD won't touch any fresh fruit. She's only 4 though, but has refused it since she was old enough to turn her head away. It's odd because she loves fruit smoothies and will eat dried fruit, she has a massively sweet tooth so it isn't that it's too sweet - maybe it's a texture thing but I just don't get it!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 06/10/2019 21:16

Same as your son, don think DD has eaten any since 2004. Likes most other stuff and will drink an occasional fruit juice or raisin. Won’t even try it to see if tastes have changed. She’s 18 soon so her choice. I LOVE fruit. I feel like she is missing out (but I also agree that it’s not great for us when eaten to excess)

TequilaPilates · 06/10/2019 21:17

I don't. I have reactive hypoglycemia so the sugar in fruit makes me ill.

cheesenpickles · 06/10/2019 21:18

I rarely eat fruit but LOVE vegetables.

IcanandIwill · 06/10/2019 21:19

Me. I don't like the texture of most fruit. I love fruit juice and fruit based cocktails though. I eat plenty of veg but not keen on salad items either!

cricketmum84 · 06/10/2019 21:20

My DH doesn't eat fruit at all. Unless it's something like a cherry crumble.

Tbh I'm not a huge fruit fan unless it's berries. Much prefer raw veg.

IncrediblySadToo · 06/10/2019 21:26

I’m astounded there are so many people that don’t like ’fruit’- like you I think there’s such a variety, not liking any fruit seems strange.

I do like fruit, but I’m eating VLC/Keto so I’m not eating any these days 😥 (not even berries at the moment)

but to not eat any fruit whatsoever is a little bit concerning diet wise

No, it’s not. You can get what you need from veg, you don’t need fruit & you certainly don’t need the sugar!

howrudeforme · 06/10/2019 21:27

Not a fruit fan. Love veg. Haven’t touched fruit in about 10 years.

just2comment · 06/10/2019 21:31

Me! I don't drink fruit juice either, most fruit gives me acid reflux, wind and makes me hungrier.

notso · 06/10/2019 21:35

I don't really like fruit. It's cold and wet with weird textures.
Very, very occasionally I'll eat a slice of apple if it looks crisp rather than woolly, or some grapes with cheese and crackers. Other than than nothing except a slice of lemon in my gin or lime in my rum and coke.
Also it makes me really hungry, when I've been trying to lose weight and 'filled up' on fruit I've felt hungrier than before I ate anything. Give me vegetables any day.
My kids love fruit though and eat loads of it.

eurochick · 06/10/2019 21:35

I loved fruit when I was younger. I couldn't get enough of it. Now I'm in my forties I still make myself eat some but I rarely fancy it. I'd prefer loads of veg.

notso · 06/10/2019 21:36

Oh and fruit juice and smoothies are horrible. Bleurgh!

VirtualHamster · 06/10/2019 21:37

Most fruit is too sweet. I eat some fresh fruit from time to time, but normally when it's the only option and I'm hungry. I'd never see it as a treat or something to look forward to. I really don't like any form of cooked fruit, jam or marmalade, or fruit added to yoghurts etc.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/10/2019 21:37

I'd never voluntarily eat a berry. I don't despise them, I'd just not eat them by choice.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/10/2019 21:38

I'd much rather eat a leaf. Or a tuber.

Iwantacookie · 06/10/2019 21:39

Me. I'm really fussy and only really like watermelon, mango, oranges and grapes.
I loathe chopping mangos and watermelons and I get really pissed off eating oranges or grapes because it makes my fingers feel really sticky.
Will eat almost all vegetables and salad though.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/10/2019 21:40

And I love tomatoes, which are fruit.

tmh88 · 06/10/2019 21:40

I’ll eat literally any vegetable or food but really do not like a lot of fruit I like apples and that’s about it hate the texture of melon or berries etc Envy
