Anyone know a non fruit eater?

My 18 year old last ate fruit when he was 2 years old. He has always eaten practically everything else- the only things I can think of that he doesn’t like are sweet potatoes, tomatoes and fresh mackerel. I find this practically incomprehensible. He just says -and always has- “I don’t like it” He drinks orange and apple juice- and fruit juice based cocktails (!). Is there anyone on here that’s the same and can explain him to me? The rest of the family eat loads. I don’t think anything happened when he was two that would have put him off.

I eat no fruit. Zero. Not even if it was prepared and put in front of me Envy

The stalks from grapes, peel from bananas and oranges, stones, pips and all that stuff makes me feel physically sick.
I can't touch them. It really weirds me out for some reason.

I like vegetables. But fruit is a massive no no.

thenightfury · 07/10/2019 11:54

I don't really like fruit so rarely eat it. I eat watermelon in the summer at picnics and the like but it's rare to be honest. Lots of fruit give me terrible indigestion. I much prefer veg and eat lots of that

Zoflorabore · 07/10/2019 11:59

Me. I don’t like any fruit but love salad and vegetables. Weirdly though I can easily drink a fruit smoothie Blush

Ginkypig · 07/10/2019 12:24

I don't hate all fruit (dislike berries though) but most of the time I just can't be arsed with it, it's never a satisfying food and lots of it is messy because of the juice and the preprepared stuff is always rank so I never use them. After I eat it I always think well that was a bit disappointing.

I adore salad and vegetables though! Both cooked properly and raw.
I will very happily sit and eat a big bowl of peas in their pods over a piece of fruit any day.
Ooh or a plate of mashed neeps!

Drogosnextwife · 07/10/2019 12:27

Fruit is generally pretty shit. Anytime I have a bit it's not juicy or sweet. I had an orange yesterday, that was the first in a long time and it wasn't even good. I'm always disappointed.
Been with dp for 8 years now and never seen him eat a bit of fruit.

CrowleysBentley · 07/10/2019 12:32

My 19 year old DD doesn't eat fruit, never has really other than the odd cherry or blackberry and now and then she'll drink an orange juice, but she eats loads of vegetables, definitely enough to be healthy, so I have never worried about it.

Aus84 · 07/10/2019 12:37

I don't eat much fruit. Just berries but in small amounts. It makes me feel sick. Plenty of veggies though.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 13:02

This thread is very surprising.

How can people not like cherries, or a lovely sweet apricot?
Or a pear?

CreamJug · 07/10/2019 13:12

I eat a fair bit of fruit, but I think it would be quite strange to expect anyone to like all fruits -- I loathe cherries, for instance, and the way pineapple roughs up the roof of your mouth is pretty repellent. And the 'squish' element of figs, dates, kiwis and medlars is not attractive to me, either. I hate the grainy texture of Granny Smiths, but would eat Cox's Orange Pippins, or russets, by the cartload, and I am a total pig about blood oranges in season.

CreamJug · 07/10/2019 13:12

I'm not sure I've ever met a pear I didn't like.

Thebearsbunny · 07/10/2019 13:16

A friend has recently been diagnosed as pre diabetic. She is an extremely slim vegetarian who eats only fruit for breakfast and lunch then a proper meal in the evening. She eats a very health diet but has been told her diagnosis is down to the amount of sugar she is consuming due to the fruit she eats. Food for thought.

ChateauneufDuTwat · 07/10/2019 13:20

I don't eat fruit.

FAR too sugary for my taste. Esp since going low carb, now even faintly sweet stuff tastes like pure sugar.

I eat low carb and eat shit tonnes of veg(both raw and cooked) everyday though which is much healthier than fruit so it's all good.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 13:22

I certainly wouldn’t expect people to like all fruit, or m just surprised to read so many posters saying fruit is shit and it makes me sick.

Not judging, just surprised.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 13:23

I’ve not met anyone who likes medlars, that’s true.

Teddybear45 · 07/10/2019 13:25

I’m not keen on fruit either, except tomatoes and some sour fruits like granny smith apples and some berries, but will eat most veg so I haven’t developed scurvy yet!

BertrandRussell · 07/10/2019 13:26

“I eat a fair bit of fruit, but I think it would be quite strange to expect anyone to like all fruits”

So do I. It’s not liking any that puzzles me!

My mum loved medlars. We used to watch her in horrified fascination as she ate them.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 13:29

Well, there’s always one....

Again, nor judging. But medlars? Grin

CreamJug · 07/10/2019 13:54

Maybe we can all point at the medlar-fans (fan? Is there more than one?) in horrified fascination. It could be a unifying factor.

If I were a method actor, remembering my first bite of bletted medlar would be a good memory to hold onto while I acted the horror and disgust suitable to discovering i had just been served my children in a pie cooked by Atreus.

BertrandRussell · 07/10/2019 13:58

Thinking about it- it was a long time ago when it were all fields and forrin’ fruit was a real treat. I wonder if she trained herself to like medlars because it was the only thing she could have all to herself......My dad loved grapes and only ever got them in the U.K. for his birthday.

Medlar jelly is delicious.

Pears are either nice or have a soggy and furry texture. I'd rather give them a miss. I have eaten apricots abroad and they were delicious. Not so in the UK.
Cherries are nice.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 14:23

Pears can be very deceiving. You might wait for a hard pear to go ready to eat and the the bastard goes all woolly, bypassing the good to eat stage

BertrandRussell · 07/10/2019 14:24

But the good to eat stage of a pear is glorious.....

OP posts:
ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 07/10/2019 14:25

Very true.

The right pear at the right time can certainly be a very good thing.
