So, having started a new job last month, I have to go to the regional offices next week, for a two day induction.
Apparently I have to "bring along a personal item that is important to me, to share with the group" REALLY?
What should I take? Bottle of gin? Tena Lady? My knitting? Will I have to do a "presentation" type thing do you think?

I’d conveniently forget.

PanamaPattie · 07/09/2019 15:53

Rabbit?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2019 15:56

Oh dear. How ridiculous.

What do you usually carry around anyway? Kindle? Pen? Piece of cake?

Jaxinthebox · 07/09/2019 15:58

take your handbag - mine comes everywhere with me

Caramelblonde · 07/09/2019 16:00

Omg my worst nightmare, why does everything have to be so infantalised now!

Symptomless · 07/09/2019 16:01

Oh no, I feel for you op. I hate any ice breaker, getting-to-know-everyone activities. I'd rather just concentrate on learning about the job or the company.

TheRLodger · 07/09/2019 16:02

Some sort of sex toy or similar
Or
Your favourite novel and explain the plot and why you like it so much

GaraMedouar · 07/09/2019 16:05

Oh dear - I'd hate that. Just forget an item. Or take your 'smile ' or something. One reason for me to plod along and never get a new job.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 07/09/2019 16:05

I don't normally carry a handbag, just shove my stuff in my pockets, or my Kevin the Carrot shopper.
Rabbit might be interesting, but I'm not sure about waving it in the air or "sharing" Grin
I daren't "forget" cos in my job it's vital to remember stuff, and I am now totally overthinking this and what if it's some kind of secret "test"?
Argh. This will bug me all week now Confused

You know what though, you have a great opportunity to have some fun. Love the suggestions of the sex toy and the handbag especially which is genius.

Howmanysleepsnow · 07/09/2019 16:06

Take Kevin the carrot!

NameChangeNugget · 07/09/2019 16:07

Used anal beads would be a winner.

81Byerley · 07/09/2019 16:08

A photo of your Grandma?

northerngirl2012 · 07/09/2019 16:08

Yes, a good book you’ve just read
Picture if favourite film.
Yoga mat
Medal from run
Bike helmet
Swim hat
iPhone with podcasts on

Basically anything that you can talk about & sounds vaguely interesting. It’s likely someone else will share an interest.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 07/09/2019 16:09

Gimp mask or a tableaux of all your (badly) taxidermied childhood pets, Walter Potter style.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/09/2019 16:10

Another vote for a favourite book (or CD/DVD, if that's more your thing?)

SmudgeButt · 07/09/2019 16:10

Smartphone.

Easy to talk about as it's something (almost) everyone has but everyone assumes someone over a certain age might find a mystery.

And explain in detail why you have the cover with the Chippendales' pictures on it.

Weedinosaurus · 07/09/2019 16:12

I really hate this kind of thing! Loving the suggestions. Can’t really top the rabbit Grin

Topseyt · 07/09/2019 16:12

Why the fuck do they do this? It sounds like infant school.

They'd regret it if they asked me because I would have to take my dog, a 15 year old Labrador. He would probably fart and drool everywhere.

TheSilveryPussycat · 07/09/2019 16:13

If it were me l would think it was worth it just to see what the other participants had brought...

Blahblahblahnanana · 07/09/2019 16:15

If it was me, I’d take my DD she can talk for England. I’d introduce her then feck off for the rest of the day! 😂😂😂😂😂

WTF99 · 07/09/2019 16:15

It's just an ice breaker.....don't be so miserable! Grin

GoneWishing · 07/09/2019 16:16

Your phone? Surely that's an important object in various ways, and won't require a lot of explanation or luggage.

edgen2019 · 07/09/2019 16:17

Pombear - take your teddy bear, a winner every time.

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/09/2019 16:17

I would bring a tin of ashes, and make up some tragic tale of a dead relative.
I would make it so sad that I would not be content until someone was actually crying.
