A block of ice cream for our only dessert of the week some Sundays.

Puffkin · 25/05/2019 19:53

Fruit. Seemed normal at the time, now I look back and think wtf?

Watchingthetelly · 25/05/2019 19:55

What was it with pure orange juice ?? It's weird because now as an adult it's like I love it because I was deprived of it as a child Grin

Frozen Supermousse!!

Widdendream77 · 25/05/2019 19:56

A spoonful of milk powder was a great childhood treat- my husband thinks it’s hilarious 🤣

Timeandtune · 25/05/2019 19:57

Coke and crisps . Only on high days and holidays. No wonder we were all so skinny.

AfterSchoolWorry · 25/05/2019 19:57

On Sundays after mass, we were taken to the local newsagents for a tenpenny bag. I remember picking Iced Dreams and my mind being blown!

Also, yoghurts were a treat.

Then as a teenager Angel delight! 😜❤

CheddarandCrackers · 25/05/2019 19:58

Yoghurt. Confused

BollocksToBrexit · 25/05/2019 19:59

Bananas. We got 1 each a week.

RedSkyLastNight · 25/05/2019 19:59

Toast with jam. Special occasions only.

Gottoloveabagel · 25/05/2019 20:00

Growing up I reminder orange juice as a starter so I think it can't have been as widely about!!
I'm not that old either!!!

ThomasHardyPerennial · 25/05/2019 20:00

Angel Delight!

EastMidsGPs · 25/05/2019 20:01

Toast done on the open fire, held over the flames with a brass toasting fork. Topping of choice was beef dripping.

Other treat was to be allowed some (3 at most) of my gran's sugared almonds.

Cloudyyy · 25/05/2019 20:01

Ha yes!! Two things I still very much enjoy buying for myself regularly: strawberries and bottled sparkling water! They were only rolled out as a very rare treat as a child 😂

riotlady · 25/05/2019 20:02

Jamaica ginger cake! We only had it at parties, was shocked when I started doing my own food shopping at uni and realised you could buy it for a pound!

AndTheEnd · 25/05/2019 20:02

Fruit here too.

60secondfacetimer · 25/05/2019 20:03

Angel delight here too. An extra special treat was a kfc when they had a Vienetta for desert lol.

Crankybitch · 25/05/2019 20:03

Milky coffee - made with instant coffee and hot milk & sugar

Normally we had tea

AndSheWas85 · 25/05/2019 20:03

One night a week we were allowed Jelly with Angel Delight.
As long as we finished our Findus Crispy Pancakes, a soggy veg.

GeneandFred · 25/05/2019 20:03

Vienetta!!!

Ploppymoodypants · 25/05/2019 20:03

Yep pure orange juice here too. I think it was (is) too expensive to just drink as a drink every day.
I must admit I hate spending money on what i perceive as sugar water. And even now we only ever have water as an every day drink. No one likes milk and fizz or juice are special treats. If I bought it we would go through a litre a day easily which is £30 a month!

Lauzy86 · 25/05/2019 20:03

OJ here too! Only a small glass with breakfast- we weren't allowed to drink it at any other time of day!

Stroller15 · 25/05/2019 20:03

My mom told us white bread with butter was a pudding, we barely ever had any or only at friends. Even now, I see it as a big treat!
