Yutes · 25/05/2019 20:04

Angel delight
Delice desserts

CheddarandCrackers · 25/05/2019 20:04

I meant, we had yoghurt as a treat, not mocking pp!

3boysandabump · 25/05/2019 20:05

Pure orange juice and corner yoghurts

Ploppymoodypants · 25/05/2019 20:05

Oh yes strawberries too. Massive treat from the allotment about twice a year 😁. I buy them weekly in summer now 🤷🏼‍♀️

TitchyP · 25/05/2019 20:05

Neopolitan ice cream, the one with the 3 flavours in stripes.

Passthecherrycoke · 25/05/2019 20:05

Yes orange juice as a starter!

WatchingTheWheels85 · 25/05/2019 20:07

Fizzy pop we would get one bottle of alderwicks at christmas. The pop man would come to some houses every week with several bottles I was fascinated. It was only water the rest of the year.

Devaki · 25/05/2019 20:07

Angel delight / instant whip
Biscuits

Alicecooperslovechild · 25/05/2019 20:08

Panda Pip, a Christmas treat.

AliasGrape · 25/05/2019 20:09

Also fresh orange juice. Christmas and special occasions only.
My absolute biggest treat was to be allowed a ‘party tea’in front of the tv - basically sandwiches but cut corner to corner so they were fancy, a handful of crisps, maybe a biscuit and a pot of green jelly for ‘afters’.

When mulled fruit corners came around they were like the most luxurious treat ever, we’d have one each on a Saturday. I still think of them as being very fancy.

Fantasisa · 25/05/2019 20:09

Everything! No wonder is was so skinny and perhaps no wonder why I’m so fat now Blush

whatthewhatthewhat · 25/05/2019 20:10

Salad!

Jsmith99 · 25/05/2019 20:10

Ground coffee, fresh cream, orange juice, wine. We only had these once a year, at Christmas.

Grapes & lucozade were only bought when we were ill.

Iwantacookie · 25/05/2019 20:11

Angel delight.
My mom would put whipped cream hair on it and chocolate button eyes.
May go make some up actually.

whatthewhatthewhat · 25/05/2019 20:12

Viennetta (which actually tastes like shit!)

foxychox · 25/05/2019 20:12

We used to do the shopping on Friday nights and get a big pot of strawberry yoghurt that was our weekly treat. It tasted better than any yoghurt I've had since Smile

FriedEggsAndMushrooms · 25/05/2019 20:13

Melon Confused only had it on a birthday.

whatthewhatthewhat · 25/05/2019 20:14

How fucked up is it that Lucozade was something you had when you were ill? Lol (100% sugar!)

Time40 · 25/05/2019 20:14

Coke and crisps . Only on high days and holidays

But ... but ... Coke and crisps aren't "normal food" are they? They ARE treats?

You're lucky, you PPs whose parents actually bought the pure orange juice. I thought pure orange juice was something you got only in tiny glasses at breakfast when staying in hotels. (And I used to live in t'shoebox in t'middle of t'road ...)

Passthecherrycoke · 25/05/2019 20:16

Lucozade- Not just ill, you actually brought it to people who were in hospital and it was sold in pharmacies like some kind of medically approved recovery drink 🤣

CheesecakeAddict · 25/05/2019 20:18

We were only allowed pure orange juice of we were ill but pretty much had unlimited access to squash.
A treat for us was "subway" nights. My mum bought baguettes and we made our own subway sandwiches.

Ragwort · 25/05/2019 20:18

Yogurt, seemed really exotic in the early 70s.

Remember going to some friends for lunch & we were served sandwiches with a bowl of crisps to share, I was so impressed, have just scoffed some posh crisps to myself with a couple of glasses of wine before dinner, that just seems ‘routine’ now Blush.

Orange juice, by the thimble full as a ‘starter’.

isthatabloborwhat · 25/05/2019 20:18

Grapes.

Pineapples only came in tins, you almost never saw a fresh one, and they were way out of most people's budget.

Fresh salmon. Not a chance - tinned salmon for us, and probably only on high days and holidays.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/05/2019 20:18

Nesquik.
Those little variety boxes of cereal.
Artic roll.
Angel Delight.
We also used to have bacon and egg on Christmas morning.
