We were only allowed fizzy drinks and chocolates on our birthdays.

EarringsandLipstick · 25/05/2019 20:19

Another one for Angel Delight, but I can't imagine how we thought it was a treat!

Fruit ... we were not allowed take it without asking, and rarely allowed have pears or oranges - they were treats for adults 😂

(In fairness as a parent of 3 now, I do go nuts when the bananas & satsumas disappear within a day of the food shop, while apples get wrinkly & bruised!)

Fresh Orange juice - only ordered Christmas week and bought when on our annual camping trip to the Lakes.

Also at Christmas - a Macdonalds before our yearly trip to the cinema.

Livpool · 25/05/2019 20:20

Frisch orange juice and melon

eddielizzard · 25/05/2019 20:20

Angel delight too! Hard to choose between strawberry and butterscotch.

We also had creme caramel that came in 2 packets. Loved making that.

Livpool · 25/05/2019 20:20

Oh yes Lucozade when you were I'll

StCharlotte · 25/05/2019 20:21

Arctic roll and Vesta Chow Mein.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 25/05/2019 20:21

Mini Kievs - we were usually a nut roast/chicken basque kind of a family.

StCharlotte · 25/05/2019 20:22

Oh Yes! Nesquik!

Buggeritimgettingup · 25/05/2019 20:22

Sometimes on a Saturday night my parents bought a small box of maltesers and a bag of minstrels, and shared them in glass bowls between the four of us, absolute bliss!

Fraxion · 25/05/2019 20:23

Lucozade- Not just ill, you actually brought it to people who were in hospital and it was sold in pharmacies like some kind of medically approved recovery drink 🤣

😂. Anyone remember the bottle coming wrapped in cellophane?

MorvaanReed · 25/05/2019 20:23

Swigging Camp Coffee out of Dad's saucer on Sunday evenings.

Soov567 · 25/05/2019 20:24

The variety packs of cereal - only had them when we were at my nan’s who we saw about once a year
McDonalds Happy Meal was a Birthday treat

TeaAddict235 · 25/05/2019 20:25

McCoy's crisps at the pub when my parent's had a drink
Snowball drinks at Christmas
Sugared almonds from my grandma

Slacksandblouse · 25/05/2019 20:25

Instant puddings/angel delight. Once a year a trip to KFC or Pizza HutGrin

EdWinchester · 25/05/2019 20:25

Coke. Only at Christmas.

Crisps, never ever.

Cherylshaw · 25/05/2019 20:26

Home made chips made in a chip pan (before people realised they were dangerous) we had them as a night time treat once a week when watching London's burning (the irony)

SherlockSays · 25/05/2019 20:26

Fizzy pop - only at Christmas
Sunny Delight - everyone at school (well, it seemed like everyone to me!) had it in their lunchboxes, I had to practically beg for it as a treat. I now don't really know what the fuss was about Blush

Slacksandblouse · 25/05/2019 20:26

I remember when fizzy lucozade, lemonade or ginger ale was for the sick in hospital too Hmm

MaybeitsMaybelline · 25/05/2019 20:26

Yes fruit here too. If you had eaten your apple that week that was your lot. I had a well off friend and was astounded that apples used to stay in her bowl so long they wizened. They could as many as they liked and never ate any.

Other treats were sweets. Once a week we had two ounces of whatever we wanted from the newsagent which was usually jelly teddies as they were small and you seemed to get a lot in two ounce.

And yet, my mum baked, every day after tea we had a fabulous home made pudding, lemon meringue pie, apple crumble or syrup sponge.

Weird.

Cherylshaw · 25/05/2019 20:26

McDonald's only when one of your cousin's were having a birthday party there

SwingoutSisterSledge · 25/05/2019 20:27

Mr Kipling French Fancies on a Sunday

Namastbae · 25/05/2019 20:27

Strawberries. We used to put them in volovants? My kids eat them pretty much very day from April-September!!

Slacksandblouse · 25/05/2019 20:27

Yes to Nesquick. It was the most amazing invention somehow

Wincarnis · 25/05/2019 20:27

A block of Neapolitan ice cream (it came in a cardboard wrapper) or Arctic Roll.
