Chocolate. I grew up in the 70s/early 80s. We had sweets but choc was once a week. I would walk up to the off licence with my dad on Sunday evening and would choose my weekly treat, always Mintolas.
Quality Street, Dairy Box etc were also Christmas and birthdays only.

Stopping at Little Chef/roadside eateries on a day out. We once stopped on the A64 and me and my brother were allowed to choose what we wanted, a great treat!

Oh and that ice magic chocolate sauce that hardened when you put it on Icecream!

SillyYak · 25/05/2019 21:15

Variety pack of cereal--only for holidays. The best one was the Ricicles, rice krispies coated in sugar with a picture of a spaceman on the packet.

Tana433 · 25/05/2019 21:17

Gino Ginelli Toffee fudge icecream with little pieces of fudge in it. Eaten after a Vesta curry. First meal my then boyfriend made for me. Hes an ex now but not for that reason, best thing he ever did for me!

foxyknoxy30 · 25/05/2019 21:21

Getting a soda steam and allowed one on a Saturday night

NaturalBornWoman · 25/05/2019 21:21

A Mivvi instead of a fourpenny Whoppa. A very occasional evening out at a Berni Inn, maybe with a prawn cocktail to start and a special coffee to finish (no alcohol obviously).

Ellabella989 · 25/05/2019 21:24

Sara Lee chocolate gateaux

reluctantbrit · 25/05/2019 21:25

Crisps and fizzy drinks like Fanta or Sprite.

I still treat these as treats for DD as well but I think she has more than I had due to us eating out more than I did as a child.

Becles · 25/05/2019 21:26

Findus Crispy Pancakes
Kellogg's variety pack mini cereals
Sara Lee chocolate gateau

And going to our local pizza/Italian restaurant. A rare and massive, massive treat. I always had fresh pineapple for my pudding, half a pineapple chopped up and served in it's skin, 70s style, covered in whipped, piped cream (squirty cream wasn't yet invented).
There were no child portion/menus either, you just ordered from the adult's menu.

@Soov567 I remember the cereals the tiny boxes I get them for my kids now lol

Melon. My dad sliced it up, and my mum served it with brown sugar sprinkled on.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 25/05/2019 21:43

We had a soda stream but were only allowed to use it on treat night which was Friday night and a glass to watch the wrestling on Saturday morning!

I remember when the flavour bottles were almost empty so we would mix them all up and make witches brew!

Listlover · 25/05/2019 21:53

Sugar puffs, we were only allowed them at Christmas

Livedandlearned · 25/05/2019 21:55

Chips from the chippy. And fish was deemed amazing!

Enb76 · 25/05/2019 21:55

Sherbet lolly on a Friday when my father came home.

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/05/2019 21:55

Ribena.

And another one for orange juice. I can't call it 'fresh' orange juice as it was Del Monte orange juice out of a tin but it only came out for special occasion meals and was a big deal.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 25/05/2019 21:56

I loved Horlicks tablets. Also used to eat Horlicks out of the jar with a spoon.

MondeoFan · 25/05/2019 21:56

Shellfish from the shellfish stall.

TroysMammy · 25/05/2019 22:03

A bottle of dandelion and burdock brought home Sunday lunchtime by a Dad who'd had a few in the pub.

It was a rare treat usually banned by my DM because we found that it gave us the most massive bloke burps. I have now introduced my niece to it but to her chagrin she can't rival Auntie's disgusting habits Grin

Eustasiavye · 25/05/2019 22:03

We only ever had After Eights and Match Makers at Christmas.
I still associate them with Christmas.
Plus nuts. They were only eaten at Christmas.

anitagreen · 25/05/2019 22:06

Thanks everyone for the replies on this thread it's fascinating I never ever liked Vienetta but my parents used to wheel it or an arctic roll out on a Sunday and it was a big deal lol

Bottled orange juice from the milk man 😊

MrsDrudge · 25/05/2019 22:07

A packet of crisps once a week.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 25/05/2019 22:10

Chocolate spread and white bread.

You knew you were really ill if your mum got you some lucozade.
