We had plenty of fruit and veg and were allowed to help ourselves, but special treats were -
Melon - expensive and basically water so not really filling, bought as a treat when there was a bit of shopping money over
Strawberries - seasonal only and maybe 2 or 3 punnets in that time as they were more expensive than a lot of other fruits, we had to smell them first to see if they were going to be full of flavour, and I still get joy from doing that now when I buy yhem

I still see Melon and strawberries as treats, yet not other equally expensive fruits that weren't even around when I was a child

Kinder eggs, they were far more expensive than other sweets/chocolate and with little actual chocolate as you were essentially paying for the toy, so it was normally anything under Xp or anything except kinder eggs. They were saved for special occasions like after a slightly ironic good report from the dentist, good parents evening, Easter and Christmas stocking. I eat them far more regularly as an adult but nowhere near what I would have imagined as a child, so I still really enjoy them and see them as a treat and look forward to it when I know I've got one for later

Frozen Supermousse!!

Yeah! And angel delight.

Every Christmas I remember how certain things were only bought at Christmas - sweet biscuit selection box, cheese biscuit selection, after eight mints. Strawberies and Cherries - seasonal. The occasional coconut. I was the only one that liked the coconut water, a big treat!!!

Tunnocks wafers from' Bill the Milk' - (Milkman) who fascinated me with his tattoos, his slurping tea out of a saucer and smelling of old pound notes.

Butterscotch angel delight.i remember mom making lemon meringue pies from a packet which had this little golden capsule in ....and also packet ice cream - just add milk and freeze - what was that about.
Posh tea once a month - tinned salmon sandwich and cling peaches with evaporated milk. We had rolla cola and dreamt of corona but it never happened.
