iPhone Snobbery

hippoherostandinghere · 01/02/2019 13:56

It's a real thing, isn't it. I'm in the process of getting a new phone and have ordered a Samsung Galaxy s9. Anyone i have mentioned it to have all said 'oh I could never go to android after having an apple phone' 🙄

I have an iPhone now, and yes it is good, but the battery life is shocking, and I can't really think of anything it does that I couldn't get in another phone. I've had a mixture of iPhones and Samsungs in the past and have liked them both for different reasons. So why do I feel judged?!

Another motivating factor is money. I got such a good deal for the latest Samsung compared to what the newest iPhone would have cost, I just can't justify the extra money.

So, will I regret it?

I have moved to Samsung after always have an iPhone and I must say I'm not loving it. But it is a lot cheaper!

Racecardriver · 01/02/2019 13:59

I struggle with android phones, apple is far more user friendly. I can understand an older person who is not that tech savvy struggling to have an Android.

Angelinthenight · 01/02/2019 14:01

I dont like iphones,im a htc fan ,i dont do what other do ,i do what i want. Think adults who have said that to u, need to grow up thats what a child would say.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 01/02/2019 14:01

I don’t know whether it’s snobbery or just preference, I’ve had a Samsung and hated it.

babysharkah · 01/02/2019 14:02

I've switched back and forth and always end up with iphone. I've just set my mother up on an old one and she can actually use it, without issue unlike the countless other phones she has tried. So not snobbery, just what I like.

Moominfan · 01/02/2019 14:03

I've gone from android to iPhone and hate it. Gone through three chargers in less than a year, never had this problem with android. Don't get the hype for iPhones at all

LegalEaglesNeeded · 01/02/2019 14:03

The only thing I would say about Samsung phones is that their screens are very expensive to replace - about £235 where I am for a replacement S9 screen - so be very careful with it and get a good screen protector and case.

hippoherostandinghere · 01/02/2019 14:05

Oh no River - what do you not like about it?
The Samsung camera is meant to be amazing which is a big bonus for me.

It’s not snobbery, It’s just that for a lot people, once you’ve had an I phone, anything else just doesn’t match up, it might do the same things, and often more, but just not quite as well.

And the battery life on the xr is bloody brilliant.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 01/02/2019 14:06

I've had Samsung's for about 15 years and I wouldn't want anything else. Just what you get used to I suppose.

OhOk · 01/02/2019 14:07

I always hear people saying how much better iPhones are and just don’t get it.. I had an iPhone 6s, drink leaked in my bag and it broke. I now have a iPhone 8 and can’t see a difference between the 2 phones except I actually have less now with no headphone port. Seems ridiculous! Other brands are waterproof too, so drink leaking would not have been a problem.

Can’t wait to end my contract and get a new phone, I don’t understand the apple loyalty at all! The phone is fine, but no better then any other.

RagingWhoreBag · 01/02/2019 14:07

I think apple stuff is just intuitive. And because it all links together you end up stuck because you get used to having your phone, laptop, iPad etc all synced and the idea of changing to something which doesn’t cross over feels alien!

I’ve only ever used apple computers/laptops so I don’t really know how to use a PC. It’s not snobbery as much as familiarity. DD gets my hand me down phones and DS1 has bought into the MacBook/iPhone/iPad shenanigans too so he’s stuck with Apple. DS2 is the only one who has ended up with androids as his dad buys his phones for him.

I see it a bit like cats and dogs. There’s no right and wrong, some people just can’t fathom why you wouldn’t like what they like!

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 14:08

the location accuracy is very slow - takes ages to locate me on Google Maps, for example.

I can't get rid of the bloody upday notifications (which informed me today that Jeremy Hardy had died at the age of 75, which was indeed news to me).

I don't like the thing that keeps opening all the tabs.

I needed a new phone as my iPhone had died and as I use it very little really it was price that nailed it for me.

LoniceraJaponica · 01/02/2019 14:08

Android household here.

Apple aren't better, just different. You get used to how your technology works, that's all. I dislike that Apple don't have a back button for instance (maybe they do now). Android is more flexible and intuitive IMO.

Sexnotgender · 01/02/2019 14:09

I don’t think it’s snobbery I think it’s what you’re used to and personal preference.

I like apple, I have watch iPad and phone so everything is connected.

It’s very user friendly. I just got the XR back in December and the battery life is great compared to the 6 I had previously.

Sirzy · 01/02/2019 14:10

I have had my current iPhone for 4 years. I wouldn’t happily move away from iPhone not from snobbery (or I wouldn’t be using such an old model!) but because it is the phone I like and can use.

My partner has a Samsung he loves it. I can’t get used to the interface because it’s not what I am used to

Fiona0x · 01/02/2019 14:14

I've always had iPhones but last month upgraded to a Google pixel 3 XL and I will never ever go back to PAPple!

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 01/02/2019 14:17

I am old 55 and I find nothing intuitive about Apple products, one of my first mobiles was an iPhone and I really didn't get on with it. I now have a Huawei and am very happy with it.

LadyPenelope68 · 01/02/2019 14:19

I've always had iPhones, but after much persuasion from my DH and teenage DS'S I've just swapped to Samsung S9. I absolutely have it, not a patch on an iphone

LadyPenelope68 · 01/02/2019 14:20

Hate it, not have it lol

Puggles123 · 01/02/2019 14:21

Apple phones tend to be easier to use, but there are loads of things you can do with an Android if you know what you are doing! Even simple things like changing the theme which changes the appearance of the buttons and the colour scheme etc; purely cosmetic but a level of customisation you don’t get at all on an iPhone. Personal preference at the end of the day, a lot of people who ‘hate’ androids haven’t used one, vice versa with iPhones.

IceBearRocks · 01/02/2019 14:24

We are Apple Atheists...we have god knows how many devices in drawers where the battery has gone do now it's useless. We now have Moto's. Cheap and to everything you need...if it breaks...buy a new one outright !!!

MotorcycleMayhem · 01/02/2019 14:25

Pfft, I can't stand Apple products having had several of them. I've even converted DH (who was an iPhone addict) to Android.

iPhones are over priced, over marketed, poorly made, poor technology compared to every other brand on the market, ridiculously delicate, and essentially designed to break at any opportunity.

They are a great con by a company who rely on people coming back for the next upgrade when they have deliberately slowed down your last product.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 01/02/2019 14:26

I run a Sony for my work and and iPhone for me. I find the apple stuff much more intuitive and easy to use. It's just preference. I really wouldn't want to go none apple for my everyday phone, it would be awkward and annoying for me. Plus I have Apple TV, iPad, iMac, MacBook etc. It all just 'works'

LoniceraJaponica · 01/02/2019 14:33

"Apple phones tend to be easier to use"

That's a matter of opinion, and usually an opinion only held by Apple users.

I have always had Android phones, and would therefore say that Android phones are easier to use.

"Plus I have Apple TV, iPad, iMac, MacBook etc. It all just 'works'"

Only because they are all Apple. Android works with pretty much any system, except Apple.
