Self-care every day 2019

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 08:51

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

That's a great idea. Would love to do this too. My almost 3 year old (tomorrow) is starting preschool (1 morning a week but quickly ramping up) so I can finally take time for me. Husband is also on board with giving me a night off a week to go to the gym/swim and to do a class one evening a week. My self care will centre around exercise as I need to lose weight and get healthier after having two operations last year.

Nicpem1982 · 01/01/2019 09:16

That sounds like a good plan id love to join

My ideas are

A walk
At home beauty treatment
A cup of my favourite coffee in peace
Some time to colour
A nap
An episode of my favourite tv show
Music hour

dogzdinner · 01/01/2019 09:20

Good idea. I'm going to make sure I take breaks from work and get outside

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 10:02

@lpchill sounds like a wonderful idea. Enjoy it all xxx

@Nicpem1982 woo so glad you're on board too, sounds like some lovely ideas xx

@dogzdinner I need to try and do more fresh airy stuff too, I have a lot of headaches recently and feel like it's probably that xx

@mumof2sarah

Were off for a walk this afternoon with a flask of our favourite coffee and some left over chocolate biscuits dd is away on hols at the min so its a good time to kick start the self care before shes home!

We try and get put into the fresh air as much as possible it makes a real positive difference to my mh if i can get out and connect with nature, even with dd with us theres something about the peacefulness of the forest or walking around a beautiful garden that really lifts me

PenelopeFlintstone · 01/01/2019 10:09

Can I join? Smile
I have lots of free time, which I know not everybody does, so I don't exactly need to take time for myself BUT I spend it on here and on FB, basically scrolling for hours!
It's probably as bad for me as many things that sound worse Grin.
So, if it's alright with you all, I might copy some of your ideas and try to do more things that are good for the soul Smile

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 13:11

@Nicpem1982 sounds lovely xxx

@PenelopeFlintstone of course it's ok the more the merrier. Enjoy all the new activities xx

What a great idea for a thread. I'm going to try:
Colouring in
Music hour
Something crafty (sewing or making)
Some easy reading
A walk each day

ChristmasFan2018 · 01/01/2019 14:08

Love this idea!

Read
Walk
Swim
Avoid social media for entire evening
Mindfulness

TheFoodtheFadandtheFugly · 01/01/2019 14:34

There are some really good sheets you can download as a sort of daily checklist.

I would like to join in as I have to manage my anxiety as part of self-care I can forget even the basics.

  • basic daily hygiene
  • reading book
  • responding to messages
  • not delaying paperwork
mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 15:58

@Onesundaymorning I've added colouring to mine thank you xxx

@ChristmasFan2018 the social media one is a really good one it does a world of good xx

@TheFoodtheFadandtheFugly you sound like me, I hope it works for you xx

This is a lovely thread - I'm going to add:
Light the fire, even if I'm only going to be in for an hour, it's comforting.
Change my bed linen more frequently, even after a few nights, so I think I am in a hotel!

YahBasic · 01/01/2019 16:10

Definitely getting involved.

Cutting down screen time/reducing social media. Thinking of deleting FB & Instagram for a while.
20 mins of yoga twice a week
At least two gym sessions per week
Eat more veg & reduce meat
Read more
10-15 mins using the Headspace app

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 16:22

@Onlywrite one of my most favourite things is a fire to relax in front of but we don't have one in the house. It's something we're thinking of adding x

@YahBasic you've got a lovely list there, I hope you manage something a day, just for you xx

I need stop prioritising everyone above myself all the time!

1/1/19 ~ today my self-care has been a much longer one to usual I've dozed and relaxed on the sofa all day. My endo has been playing up so I'm in pain, have headache and extremely tired. Luckily DP doesn't go back to work yet so he's done all my usual things as well as his own. I'm still exhausted but my headaches gone which is a bonus x

Tink1990 · 01/01/2019 18:44

Smile thank u! And happy new year to u too

LuckyLou7 · 01/01/2019 19:07

I love this thread!
I bought myself a page a day diary and I intend to write at least one positive thing that happens every single day, read for half an hour and review each book as I finish it, get my bike out of the garage and go for a 30 minute cycle ride at least twice a week, and practice mindfulness for 5 minutes every day.

ClandestineAdulation · 01/01/2019 19:10

Actually taking my make up off at the end of the day and moisturising before bed. Sounds silly and like a very basic task but it’s something I struggle with.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2019 19:11

I started a list a couple of days ago, to try to make sure I don't just waste whole weekends food shopping and messing around online etc. So far I've got:

coffee and cake in a nice cafe
getting a massage
walking along the canal or around a local lake (I somehow feel happier near water, it seems)
mooching in a book shop, even if I don't buy anything
colouring/drawing
getting the train to somewhere local but not the usual town
bubble bath and face mask
buying flowers
going for a walk with a camera

I don't need to add reading because I do that daily: it's as instinctive as breathing!

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 19:12

@LuckyLou7 hello my lovely. Welcome to our little thread. I love your ideas. I managed 15 books last year and I'm so proud of myself for that. We have a thing in our house as we're going to bed we say what's been the worst thing of the day and then the best and we take the best bit to bed with us. It's something we've done for many years and the kids just automatically tell me before they go now x
