Self-care every day 2019

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

Had a busy day today so I took a short walk to the duck pond and just had a few moments to breathe and take it all in. Took me no more than 5 minutes to have a small stop off and it set my mood off on a more positive note too.

I'm now going to do a quick tidy up, exercise and then shower and go straight into bed for an early night.

I'm loving this thread. I'm starting the new year with a week abroad on my own..going to see a lovely friend whilst my ex husband looks after the kids.

I am aiming to get my hair done at least once a month at a salon and have at least one beauty treatment at my.lpcal beauty salon. I have started reading again and make it a point to go to the gym daily. I am in a new relationship and my goal weight seems to getting nearer..I truly hope 2019 is our year ladies !!

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 21:06

@BlessYourCottonSocks well done on the walking. I'm thinking of investing in some walking boots and every morning after dropping DD off at school having an hour walk. There's some really lovely parks and countryside with in around 20 minutes drive from here and I just think it'll do me the world of good xx

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I love a good cook book so going to have a look. Thank you for getting involved and giving ideas xx

@VanillaSugarCookies sounds lovely. Well done on getting those few minutes for self-care. Enjoy your early night xx

@DizzyBeeme I love EVERYTHING you said! I'm so so happy you've got your self-care in place and seem in such a happy place. I want this thread to be filled with positivity and love and yours is definitely one of those. You've got this xx

My drink and movie this morning was wonderful. I've even managed some self-care this evening in the form of some breathing in peace. It seems daft that just sitting there and taking some deep breaths can really balance you. I hope you've all managed something today. Sending lots of love xxx

I took a full lunch break today and watched something that I really enjoyed.

I cooked one of my favourite recipes and have extra for tomorrow night.

I’ve just had a long shower and moisturised (got to love a time saving in-shower almond oil moisturiser!)

Instead of turning the TV back on, I’m cuddled under a blanket and reading.

I’ll do 10 mins of Headspace before bed.

Tomorrow, I want to drink more water and do some yoga in my lunch break.

Teaistheanswer · 02/01/2019 22:05

Drank lots of water and even did a bit of colouring! Feel better for both of them Smile

Littlechocola · 02/01/2019 22:07

Yesterday’s self care was a bubble bath
Today was a ten minute meditation

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 22:11

@YahBasic you sound like you're really doing well with your self-care. I'm so glad. Please keep it up my lovely xx

@Teaistheanswer woohoo another who's drank a lot of water. It's amazing what it can do for you. Thank you for sharing please come back again tomorrow xx

@Littlechocola sounds lovely, both of them. Can I ask if you follow a guided meditation?x

Blessthekids · 03/01/2019 00:41

Wonderful positive thread.
2018 was kinda rubbish for me so sounds like a great way to make 2019 more enriching for the soul

DizzyBeeme · 03/01/2019 01:11

Thank you @mumof2sarah I am a very positive person!! My cup is always half full lol! I truly believe that with self love and self care we can delay with everything much better.

I have started using headspace to meditate and it us really good !! I switch off the lights..put some candles on and close my eyes for at least 10 mins before bed..it helps me sleep better and relaxes my whole body x

DizzyBeeme · 03/01/2019 01:18

Once a week...I do this !! Sink into my bath before bed when the kids are asleep with candles and lovely soft music..heavenly..

Snoz · 03/01/2019 07:06

Ooh, I'm jealous of your bath!
Well, on the 1st, I went for a walk (haven't exercised in 2 and a half months, so it was testing the limbs to see if they still function).
Yesterday, I did the first run of the C25K app.
This morning I woke at 2.30am *wails! so I'm bloody knackered, but there's yoga at 12.30 which I'll go to if I can catch a few zzzzs in between times.
Gave myself a mini pedicure yesterday (feet are like that of a 90 year old).
Put nail oil on fingernails last night
Have cleaned flat from top to bottom
Lit my Yankee candle yesterday evening.
Put night moisturiser on (though, thanks to lack of sleep, I still look like the dead awakened).
Going to put some fake tan on today to try to look alive.
Oh, and going to buy some paint brushes, as I have canvas and acrylics and keep meaning to paint something abstract but without the tools lol, who am I kidding.
So, progress of sorts, lack of sleep aside.

Snoz · 03/01/2019 07:11

Oh, and how could I have forgotten the main one. Reduced alcohol! (Still had a cheeky glass of wine, but slowly slowly catch a monkey).
And, this sounds like housework, but it gives me an extraordinary sense of satisfaction, I shined my sink ala FlyLady lol.

mumof2sarah · 03/01/2019 09:13

@OneStepMoreFun woohooo,I need to start eating healthier again now, I feel like all's I do is eat rubbish. Well done here's to a new day, you got this xx

Welcome @Pavlova31 I've just taken up crochet too, will see how I get on but not holding out much hope lol xx

@Blessthekids sorry you've had such an awful 2018, here's to an amazing 2019 I hope you are able to find the help and support here xx

@DizzyBeeme That bath looks amazing, making me want to step into one right now lol. Glad you're managing to find that self-care time, let's keep it up we can do this xx

@Snoz Sounds like you're on the ball woohoo, we can do this. I have maybe 4 glasses of wine a year and that's it and I've seen such a big difference, I was drinking at least twice a week. Well done xxx

Nicpem1982 · 03/01/2019 11:46

Im off for a walk in the park now for an hour to hang some fat balls for the birds i have a destress face mask for later

Hope everyone is having a good morning Smile

DonaldDucksTowel · 03/01/2019 12:10

I love this thread
I’m very guilty of putting myself bottom of the list and every few months having a mini breakdown when it all gets too much
My resolution is to stop doing that! Priorities myself regularly and feel better all of the time, not just when I decide enough is enough
I’m important too - I need to convince myself of that

...I haven’t done anything yet though as DS1 is very poorly so I’m just gathering ideas for now and I’ll be on it next week Grin

dogzdinner · 03/01/2019 12:39

It's nice to read all the ideas and plans here.

One thing that I am always mindful of, is not being judgemental of myself and I think this can be a problem for a lot of people with New Year's resolutions. So, if you decide you are going to walk every day and then (for whatever reason) some days you don't manage it, it's no big deal.

mumof2sarah · 03/01/2019 12:44

@Nicpem1982 sounds perfect I hope you've enjoyed your walk xx

@DonaldDucksTowel you defo need to put yourself first. I hope your son is feeling better soon my lovely xx

@dogzdinner I totally agree, sometimes it just can't be done. I've said if I can't find a time or energy to do something I'm not going to let it bother me, it's just one day, there will be others. Thank you xx

Up to now today, I've not managed any real self-care my endo has caused anaemia and I'm just struggling to function properly. My plan was to light some candles and watch a film once DDs are in bed but the internet isn't working I was getting stressed trying to sort it so now I'm going to put them to bed and climb in myself with a book I think. Hope you all managed something for day 3 xx

OP posts:
Teaistheanswer · 03/01/2019 18:43

Sorry to hear things have not gone so well @mumof2sarah I really hope you can at least enjoy your book. Fingers crossed that tomorrow is a better one for you.

Lovely to hear that people are taking little steps to make their own lives better. I managed a nice sit with a dvd today -relishing the last couple of days off and trying to build up the positivity that I can keep it up once I'm back at work!

8FencingWire · 03/01/2019 18:48

:( sarah, sorry to hear.
Do you like venison? It’s good for anaemia. Failing that, chocolate is the answer to everything in my world. Hope you feel better soon.
You asked what do I use for guided meditation: this book comes with a CD. I thoroughly recommend it.
donald, sorry your son is poorly. How are you coping?
I bought some shampoo meant to help with my very dry hair. And I’ve taken some time off work to catch up with myself :)

mumof2sarah · 03/01/2019 19:11

@Teaistheanswer thank you. I'm ok just having a feel sorry for myself Day. I'll be fine. I've just got DD2 to bed and my other DD1 is in bed reading her book so I'm following suit and hopefully can have that time then. Thinking positive you can continue your hard work of self-care when you get back. Don't forget there's always lunch time and journeys to and from work to use too :) xx

@8FencingWire I can't eat venison it knocks me sick unfortunately :( but I have had a pizza which seems to have helped lol. Thank you for that recommendation I'm going to have a look into that now. Also well done on the taking time off I hope it's everything you wanted lovely xx
