Self-care every day 2019

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 08:51

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

@mumof2sarah sometimes I use headspace which is very good.

Yesterday I had a nice long bubble bath.

Tink1990 · 04/01/2019 08:05

Yesterday i drank lots of water, had lovely salad for lunch and had a 45 min walk! Really helps. I hope you are feeling better today Smile

Mummynicb · 04/01/2019 08:18

Thanks for starting this thread I am finding it very inspiring. I have struggled with depression since having my second child and I know that self care absolutely helps me, but ironically find it almost impossible to do when I'm depressed! I'm hoping that by following this thread I can pinch a few ideas and try a little act of self care everyday. Thanks for all your ideas everybody.

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 09:19

Morning everyone. I'm feeling slightly better today thank you. Still not 100% but getting there and managed to do a few jobs as well.

I have the whole house to myself this evening so I'm going to make something nice to eat, light my candles, watch a film with my duvet on the couch and just relax and I literally can't wait lol.

@Littlechocola I couldn't work with headspace for some reason I just couldn't get into it but might give it another go. Bubble baths are the best especially if you have your favourite bath stuff in it xx

@Tink1990 My plan is to get through tons of water today, I feel like every time I do have a water day i do feel so much better xx

@Mummynicb First off I'm sending you a huge hug. Thank you for joining, this group is here to boost everyone and I hope we can help. Self-care can be 5 minutes of just sitting in peace and breathing (I've often used the excuse of going for a wee for that five minutes ha ha). Depression is an awful thing to go through and I hope that this self-care daily will help you too. We are all here to support you, you CAN do it xx

Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better this morning Sarah An evening on the sofa with the duvet sounds great!

I went out for a short walk before work this morning (yes, I am meant to be working now!) It is very cold out, but invigorating and a lovely sunrise.

jogobella · 04/01/2019 09:39

This is a great thread!

Things on my list are coloring, painting, reading, playing the piano, baking, doing guided meditations (YouTube), face masks, manicure, yoga, taking naps with my cats, call a friend, journaling, and go for a walk with an audio book on.

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 10:03

Morning @dogzdinner that walk sounds so nice. I have a few little errands to run so may fit in a walk as well to get some fresh air. Have a lovely day xx

Welcome @jogobella and thank you :) your ideas sounds wonderful, I'm going to invest in some new colouring things I think, I usually use the kids bits but think some of my own that I keep to my sort of "pristine" may make me even more determined to do it. Don't forget this thread is here to support, if you're struggling one day or just need a cyber hug, alls you have to do is ask xx

Glad to hear you are feeling better Sarah and have a lovely plan to look forward to this evening.
I've got a busy day today as it's my last on my own before I'm back to work but I'm planning on at least starting my new book! Once I've started one I'm more likely to try and fit in reading it Smile
Well done to everybody on here who is making such a positive start to 2019, long may we continue!

fussychica · 04/01/2019 10:30

Cleaned out my make up bag yesterday, that felt strangely satisfying!

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 10:38

@Teaistheanswer thank you :) enjoy your book. I've set a challenge of reading one book a month, not too hard then. Have a lovely day xx

@fussychica I always feel like that when I sort through my bits like that. It's like a fresh start xx

They have lots of different exercises to try. Definitely not one size fits all.
Also if you find your mind wondering, don’t punish yourself or give up. Just acknowledge it and move on.

Littlechocola · 04/01/2019 11:33

Sorry that was about headspace to @mumof2sarah

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/01/2019 13:57

Glad this lovely thread is still going.

Yesterday involved a lovely walk by water - one of my favourite things to do.

Today has involved a lie-in to finish a book, a bubble bath and listening to some vinyl (the best way to listen to music!), plus a coffee whilst out.

I find Feraglobin (or FeraGoblin as it's known in this house) good for iron levels.

jogobella · 04/01/2019 15:10

@mumof2sarah thank you! 🙂

SpinSpinSpin · 04/01/2019 15:12

Hi mumof2sarah - just come across this thread & wanted to join in.

This morning I exfoliated my face, full body moisturise & soaked my feet.

This afternoon I've flicked through my cook books & made a meal plan for next week.

DH & I will go for a walk tomorrow & I plan to go for a walk alone every Monday morning. I'd like to go for lunch one day by myself but that's abit scary at the minute so will build up to that lol.

I'm really enjoying the positively of this thread xx

Loopytiles · 04/01/2019 15:18

Exercise.
Toiletries, especially moisturiser.
Smelly candles.
Meal planning / cooking.

At work, hot drink in non leak commuter mug for the commute, tidied out drawer and cracked open new stationary.

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 16:32

@Littlechocola I use Pacifica app but will have another look at headspace I think, thank you lovely xx

Hi @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie your day sounds lovely :) Ive ended up getting all my decorations down and having a little walk around with the girls today. I'm about to make tea and then settle down with a movie whilst I have a quiet calm house. Yeah I've heard of those might have to give them a chance xx

Hi and welcome @SpinSpinSpin it sounds like you're putting lovely plans into space. I love going to lunch on my own, usually a little afternoon tea cafe place local and I take my book with me, the first time was daunting but after that it was really lovely xx

@Loopytiles I love the hot drink for the commute one :) it's a brilliant time to just breathe too, lots of love xxx

Littlechocola · 04/01/2019 16:56

Walk on the beach to clear head after a stressful day.

@Loopytiles I love new stationery!!

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 16:58

@Littlechocola I love a walk on the beach. I was thinking of a little trip up to the beach this weekend but it's not looking likely now. A local park will do xx

Blessthekids · 04/01/2019 17:39

I’m very guilty of putting myself bottom of the list and every few months having a mini breakdown when it all gets too much

I really relate to this!

I have been watching a netflix series about Marie Kondo method of tidying, the people who did the process seemed so much happier and lighter. So today I emptied out my wardrobe, I always thought I had no clothes I was wrong! Have now got two bags of clothes for charity and recycling and yes you do feel lighter! Tomorrow the rest of the drawers! I am actually looking forward to it! Grin

VanillaSugarCookies · 04/01/2019 18:16

Yesterday I went on a long drive, some was silent and some was loud with music - no children just adults it was lovely Smile tonight I'm going to chill out and watch tv under a fluffy blanket.

Loopytiles · 04/01/2019 18:34

Envy about walk on the beach!

TV is a funny one, am a big telly addict (and love the MN board discussions) but because I don’t start watching until late as am rushing about with DC, when enjoying it often stay up too late, which isn’t ideal!

mumof2sarah · 04/01/2019 18:59

@Blessthekids I've got that on my to watch list but I've heard mixed reviews about it and struggle to get into programmes like that so gonna watch it when I'm really concentrating xx

@VanillaSugarCookies I've just snuggled under a blanket now, not planning on moving til at least 9 to head up to bed lol xx

@Loopytiles that's a problem I've faced in the past, I've stayed up late to watch something so now I tend to get up earlier and watch it before I have to start the day properly, that way I can binge watch and be up all night lol x

DonaldDucksTowel · 04/01/2019 20:22

@8FencingWire I’m doing ok for now but he’s still quite unwell, I tend to be ok while bad things are happening and then once they’re over and the dust settles it hits me if that makes sense? So for now I’m powering through - thankyou for asking Smile

I managed to sneak off this afternoon and have a cup of tea and a few biscuits all by myself
It only lasted about 20 minutes before someone found me, but it was nice Grin
Oh and I also took a multivit today - I definitely needed this, I exist on caffeine, carbs and antidepressants 🤦🏻‍♀️
