Self-care every day 2019

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

@DonaldDucksTowel I'm glad you got that 20 minutes. It all helps. Here's to hoping your son is even more better tomorrow xx

My evening went as planned, I've watched a cheesy movie, snuggled under a blanket and just really relaxed. It was amazing and just what I needed. Now I'm getting in bed because I actually feel the kind of tired where I sleep rather than the exhausted insomnia tired where I can't sleep..: wish me luck xx

@DonaldDucksTowel 'I exist on caffeine, carbs and antidepressants' - same Grin

Not really self care but I can't focus when the house is messy so - I managed a quick tidy up and put a wash on so the house is looking a lot better. I do need to put rubbish and recycling outside and run the vacuum round but that can wait until tomorrow. I can't be arsed getting the vacuum out at 11pm and it's too dark & cold outside so I don't want to be wandering to the bins in a daze. For now I'm going to my nice warm bed with the iPad and a Diet Coke.

We saw ‘the favourite’ at the cinema, a rare treat for us :) and went out for dinner.
I love going out!

Didsomeonesaybunny · 05/01/2019 00:00

This is such a lovely thread. I have been following. My ideas and things I have been doing are as follows:

Make some time each day to finish my French language course
Go outside and run rather than the treadmill
Meditation
Start painting again
Visit art galleries (haven’t been in ages and it’s one of myna fave things to do)
Book some holidays
Walks in the park
Get lost cooking and baking (have been loving this lately)
Take the sheets off my drum set and play
Sing more
At home spa evenings

Didsomeonesaybunny · 05/01/2019 00:01

Today’s self care was spending the whole day with my family and friends. It was so lovely. My face hurts from smiling so much

LuckyLou7 · 05/01/2019 00:09

Today has been my first day off since NYE - I work in healthcare. So today I had a long lie-in, peanut butter on toast and frothy coffee for breakfast, a walk on the beach with DH and the dog, then we curled up on the sofa in front of the fire and watched a silly film all afternoon. Bowls of chilli and a glass of red wine for supper.

Self-care rocks.

Now for bed with a milky drink and my kindle.

mumof2sarah · 05/01/2019 09:12

@VanillaSugarCookies there is something so nice about settling in a tidy house, it's so much more relaxing. Hope you have a lovely day today xxx

@8FencingWire sounds like you had the best day. So happy for you. Hope today is just as nice xxx

@Didsomeonesaybunny I could happily get lost in baking and cooking too, but I've rarely had the energy of late, once the children are back in school I'm hoping to get my uumph back for it. And family time is always the best :) welcome to the thread, have a wonderful day xx

@LuckyLou7 It sounds like you've deserve a day of self-care. Hope you managed lots of sleep and are ready for another good day :) lots of love xx

Well after not feeling insomnia tired, insomnia took over and I've hardly slept :( I'm ok though I've done self care this morning in the form of lazing in bed just breathing and having some quiet time. I'll be in bed by 7 tonight though lol. HAVE A WONDERFUL SATURDAY EVERYONE xxx

VanillaSugarCookies · 05/01/2019 11:07

Im busy tomorrow so a lovely hour long bubble bath has been my self care 'Sunday' for today. I'm now going to moisturise, tan, do my nails, brows, lashes and a face mask.

YahBasic · 05/01/2019 11:10

Still managing the reading, baths and meditating. Struggling with the exercise/yoga, but hopefully start that from Monday. It’s the getting started bit that I always struggle with.

DH and I are currently on the train to London to see a show tonight, so looking forward to just hanging out. We’ve got nothing organised so we have said we’re going to do what makes us happy and not pressure ourselves to pile loads in. If that means lunch in bed watching films, then so be it Grin

Have a great weekend all!

mumof2sarah · 05/01/2019 11:32

@VanillaSugarCookies I literally can't wait for a hot bubble bath at some point this weekend :) enjoy it all xx

@YahBasic I'm so glad you're getting some bits in. Me and DH try and get a night away once or twice a year and more often than not we end up back at the hotel for tea time after exploring, and have room service in bed with movies lol. It's just the different surroundings and relaxation we need :) enjoy your show this evening. Sending lots of love xx

Hope you're all having a lovely Saturday. I'm currently sat with my feet up and a brew having some me time whilst DD is watching a film in her room (she asked, went up and she's got under the blankets with a teddy watching it). I'm absolutely completely exhausted and I'm dreading the rest of the day caus it feels like it's dragging but hopefully this moment of self-care will help x

Mindfulness
Write in diary regularly to release stress but include at least 1 thing that I am happy about/love about my life or about me
Less Facebook and iPhone
Exercise frequently (gym, run, yoga)
Spend more quality time with DP and DS

mumof2sarah · 05/01/2019 16:52

Hi @RunSweatLaughAndLatte sounds like a good idea. Lots of love xxx

Things I'm doing well: Sticking to exercise plan.
1st. 20 minute brisk walk
2nd 1st run of c25k
3rd 30 minute brisk walk
4th 2nd run of c25k
5th (today) Zumba for an hour (I was struggling massively to keep there the whole session but managed).

Things I'm not doing well:
Sleeping
Cutting down on alcohol

I need to get a bit more strict and rigid with myself. My sleep routine is slowly returning to something resembling normal (I'm about 10 days on antidepressants). But I've had 4 hours, 2.5 hours, 8 hours, 6 hours.

I'm doing well at keeping the flat clean. I organised my knicker drawer lol.

I'm doing well at trying to delay that first drink (apart from today).

My period started today after 4 months without one, so that accounts for the lack of weight loss and pot belly.

I'm supposed to go on a date tomorrow. I look like shit and feel like shit. It's the first date and we've been chatting for weeks and I keep putting him off. At this stage, look it., he can just take me as I am, because he's the one insisting on meeting when I'm not feeling/looking the best. Not sure that's good in terms of self care.

mumof2sarah · 05/01/2019 17:43

@Snoz first of all... ((HUGS)) I'm sorry you're having such an awful time. I'm glad you're stickking to your exercise. I can't really answer your alcohol intake one caus I don't drink (it affects my endo) but I will tell you pushing yourself to go on that date will make you feel better. You can do it xx

Loving writing in my beautiful new Paperblanks diary. DH gets me one every Christmas and this year it's a corker Smile
Would love to live by the sea like some of you. Unless we take a ride out my walks are confined to town and a bit of country but I walk daily whatever.
Saturdays mean an afternoon reading the paper which I really enjoy and a slow cooked stew made yesterday so nothing to doSmile
Still forgot to buy a face mask, damn. Must try harderGrin

OneStepMoreFun · 05/01/2019 18:43

I've managed to complete week 1 of C25K and been on two country walks - one with family, one with friends.
I've done a bit of writing (sometimes only a teensy tiny bit) every day.
Started a bullet journal. fussy I share your love of Paperblanks - aren't they gorgeous? My diary is just a Tiger one, but it's silk and lovely.

EatCrisps · 05/01/2019 19:56

Another one adding meal planning. Need to nourish better through eating, be more organised/reduce anxiety plus will hopefully save money that can go towards nice treat like days out

EatCrisps · 05/01/2019 19:57

Will hopefully reduce snacking on crisps too Smile

Nicpem1982 · 06/01/2019 08:43

Yesterday i had 30 mins colouring with a cup of coffee that was really nice

I also baked a cake for the family with my music on in the kitchen that was bliss!

Whatisthisworldcomingtoo · 06/01/2019 08:49

Such a good idea for the new year, I may join and borrow your lovely ideas. I am a single mum working full time so really struggle to find time for me but so far this year I have focused any time I have on cleaning which gives me great satisfaction!

8FencingWire · 06/01/2019 09:00

fussy, make your own mask if you have some porridge oats and honey. It’s very nice :)

I had yet another lovely day yesterday. Having days off helps. We had lunch in town and then did a bit of shopping in the sales. I got a pair of boots (I’m no pauper, but my boots had holes in the soles, had them for years, they really did their job). I’ll say goodbye to them today.
I also found a denim skirt that fits a woman in her 40’s. No weird embelishments, no visible logo, not barely covering my arse. It’s perfect for me. So now I have a new outfit :)

And went to bed with Morantology and laughed my head off, I was still giggling as I was falling asleep. She’s so so funny.

I did a couple of meditations yesterday, only 10 min ones, but it grounds me. I’ll try a longer one today, 45 min. But for that I need to have the house in perfect order.
I’m off to the pool in a bit, I’ve done a 4k run already.
Have a lovely Sunday everyone :)

mumof2sarah · 06/01/2019 09:18

@fussychica my local beach is 45 minutes or more away but we often drive out further just to steal an hour of sea salt air it's the best sort :) I need to by a new notebook and start journaling or something, when I write I feel my shoulders lift xx

@OneStepMoreFun well done on the week completion, May it continue through the year :) I'm about to buy stuff to start a bullet journal, I don't have a clue where to start but I'm going to give it a go xx

@EatCrisps my meal plannings done for the next week. Will be in a supermarket in the morning with a list and a defiant head to buy just what's needed lol xx

@Nicpem1982 There's something so soothing about colouring isn't there? I know if I get the colouring things out I end up with a little princess sat beside me doing the same thing lol xx

Hi and welcome to @Whatisthisworldcomingtoo I hope you manage to get your self-care time, even if it's just a hot brew to yourself, we all deserve that time. Please keep us updated, we're here for you xx

@8FencingWire You're amazing (gold star), make me tired just reading your posts ha ha. I'm so glad you're having this self-care time and doing the things you love, I hope you manage to keep it up. Sending lots of love and Sunday wishes :) xx
