Self-care every day 2019

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 08:51

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

Oh and eating more fruit and vege - treating myself to punnets of berries as often as possible!

Omzlas · 01/01/2019 19:13

Room for a small 'un?

I would like to push myself to go to the gym a couple of times a week
Read more (even a chapter a day would do)
Actually enjoy a shower and make it less task-y

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 19:14

@ClandestineAdulation I started that last year, I still do my makeup when ever I wear it but I've not been the best with moisturising going to start again now. Welcome xx

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie we've just been talking about the fact we're going to make sure we do something outdoors either Saturday or Sunday EVERY weekend. Welcome to the thread xx

Snoz · 01/01/2019 19:16

I'm aiming for the same.
My things so far are:
Gym/run/walk daily
Keeping flat tidy so it's cosy for just me
Burning the scented candles I reserve for guests only
Getting through at least one admin task daily
Keeping nails groomed
Baths, to do rough feet etc. (eugh, I know)
Fresh air daily
Weekly face mask

JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 · 01/01/2019 19:17

me Please.
I'm going to start taking my headphones to work with me and listen to some music at lunch time to clear my mind.

8FencingWire · 01/01/2019 19:20

Hello
What a lovely idea for a thread! Thank you:)

I have been working too much. Way, way too much.
So I am reclaiming my weekends back, now that I managed to pay a huge debt.

I’m about to make dinner, but I’ll be back :)

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 19:20

@Omzlas there's room for everyone on this thread my lovely. I want to make it a really lovely positive place to come to talk about what you've done that day, new things you've thought of and just be a really uplifting happy thing. Yours sound like lovely ideas. Happy new year xx

@Snoz welcome. It seems a lot are going for the fresh air one, i should have done that today but the couch was just enough for me lol xx

@JustanotherCHRISTMASuser01 Welcome, sounds like you've got a good plan in place. Happy new year xxx

I am retired so have quite a bit of time for myself. I've been pretty good at setting and keeping to a regime lately and am keen to carry on and add to it in 2019. I do a challenging set of stretching and weight exercises every morning
Walk every day
Reading, I love this and usually have a book on the go but Christmas has interrupted my routine, need to get back to it especially as I had a couple of books as gifts.
Wearing nice underwear
Back to healthy eating after the Xmas blip, I know it will make me feel better.
Do some volunteering as I'm back in UK for longer than usual this year.
Love the flowers idea, not done that for ages.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2019 19:26

I think taking time for music is really important too - and not something I remember to do frequently enough.

fussychica · 01/01/2019 19:31

Yes to more music. It always makes me feel better but sometimes go too long between sessions.
Yes to lovely candles and incense.
Like the face mask idea, will get one tomorrow.

ChristmasFan2018 · 01/01/2019 19:34

Remus good idea with buying flowers. I love fresh flowers in the house Smile

PearlandRubies194 · 01/01/2019 19:34

Lovely thread!

I’m going to try and do more :

Candles
Body oils after a shower or bath
Moisturise and to remember my neck area
Moisturise my hands each day
Stop biting my nails and instead paint them
Hot bubbly baths without my daughter and her headless Barbie dolls!
Make up on whenever I’m going out as I do feel better for it
Quiet coffee and book time
Long walks

I need to try and do less:

Social media
Comparing my life to others’ as it really is the thief of joy
Putting myself last before everyone and everything else

Junebug123 · 01/01/2019 20:24

My plans are:
Drink way more water
Eat more fruit instead of processed snacks
Pamper bath, shave, moisturise etc once a week
Floss
Make time for yoga/ mindfulness every week

8FencingWire · 01/01/2019 22:42

Right, I’m back.
It wasn’t a feast, we ended up watching a movie :)

June, I practice mindfulness, I do two guided meditations a day, I find them really helpful. Although lately, with the holidays, I’ve been slacking slightly. Still, if I haven’t meditated in the morning I feel slightly ‘lost’. So I try and do it.

I need to replenish my energy.
I had a peaceful and lovely Christmas period, saw friends, did things, it was good. Now I need to look after myself a bit more.

I took a walk on the beach today. It was beautiful. And I got to spend some time with my DD and actually talk. It’s been a while.

I started a brand new journal, the old one finished yesterday by pure coincidence. But I forgot to write 5 things I’m grateful for. I’ll do that in a minute.

I was lucky enough to receive some beautiful smelling candles for Christmas, but I can’t smell a thing atm, I have the lurgy. There’s something about candle light, isn’t it, is’s so cosy.

I thought I’d choose 12 things this year, and every month focus on that one thing.

For January is remembering to take my vitamins. I’m terrible at remembering that. So I’ve set a reminder on my phone every morning. I need Vit D and B12.
So, I’ll go grab them now and have the first lot on the 1st of Jan. Just.

Tomorrow I plan to go for a swim after work. I’m home alone in the evening :)

VanillaSugarCookies · 01/01/2019 22:49

I've promised myself a self care Sunday, glad there's a thread I can follow!!

My self care Sunday involves a pamper session of a mini pedicure, epilating, a new set of nails and a nice long candle lit bubble bath where I can use my bath bombs and salts etc.

The colouring sounds great. As do the fresh flowers. I do light candles each day too and they make everything feel more homely. And I really want to try to have a short walk each day too. Yoga and mediation sound brilliant as well. I'll have to put an hour away in the week to do that.

If you have smart TV's/Now TV box you can YouTube a video of a crackling fire. I do it all the time, it's so relaxing and calming.

mumof2sarah · 01/01/2019 23:01

I've read all your comments just not been able to reply properly yet. I'm actually going back to sleep (being very lazy today) in the hope I wake up tomorrow feeling much better and can start my self care properly, I'll have another read and do some replying in the morning. Lots of love to you all xxx

Mumof2 hope you feel better?

Some fab ideas on here! I have completely neglected myself over the last 20 odd months since I had my 2nd child.

I come last and that needs to change or at least not last to the chores?!!

I’m going for-
Do my nails, paint them colours!

Read - I’ve started this and have gone for a book genre I wouldn’t normally.

Wear heals again!!

Buy myself some clothes.

Slow down - I do everything as fast as poss, I literally run around my house?!

Take makeup off - I never do this.

Drink water- instead of caffeine.

Compliment myself instead of putting myself down.

We got this!! :)

PearlandRubies194 · 02/01/2019 07:20

I’ve just done yoga for the first time in years... only a few minutes with a YouTube clip (I think Yoga with Adriene). I’ve had terrible posture since puberty when I developed early and tried to hide away. Now I’m carrying too much weight and always hunched over - so lots of back pain.

I’m now sitting on the sofa and feel all relaxed! Finishing coffee and drink of water before work.

Have a good day everyone

SAMlady · 02/01/2019 07:50

Great thread and agree that this was my NY resolution too. Since I had my DD I come last to everything. My DH is a bit OCD and realised I was rushing my shower, skipping parts so I could rinse the shower and clean the screen to keep that perfect.

Mine are:
Go to dentist
Hair colour and cut every ten weeks
Yoga night class
Use gym at work
Nail gels - for some reason this is the thing that makes me feel on top of things.

Some other great ideas here, thank you.

PearlandRubies194 · 02/01/2019 08:05

Morning @SAMlady

We can do this!

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 08:36

@fussychica aww you sound like you have a lovely lot of things to do. Lots of love in your retirement xx

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I always have music on in the car and when I'm doing the tidying. I may start taking time to just sitting with music on xx

@PearlandRubies194 welcome and thank you for your wonderful ideas. Hopefully we can all take something from everyone. Good luck in our self-care journey xx

@Junebug123 sounds like you're ready to go, have a wonderful 2019 and welcome to our little self-care thread :) xx

@8FencingWire Hi, sound like good plans you have, can I ask you where you get your guided meditation from? I use the Pacifica app but I'm still trying to figure myself out when it comes to it xx

@VanillaSugarCookies Welcome lovely. Your self-care Sunday idea sounds wonderful. I love the crackling fire things on the TV, I always feel so peaceful xx

@Chosenbyyou I'm ok, still sore but will be ok. I hope you manage to keep your self-care up, it's such an important thing xx

@PearlandRubies194 I've never tried yoga, I keep saying I will but just not got there yet. I've seen Mrs meldrum on insta talking about Adrian so I might go on her YouTube and see what it's about xx

@SAMlady Thank you for your kind words and welcome. I love having my nails done too, never get to do it but I always feel better with them lol.

TODAY I've been up early and managed a cup of hot water (can't drink tea when my endo plays up it makes my stomach worse) whilst watching a movie in peace. I can hear little feet upstairs so am expected to be joined soon but I've had a good hour just me today. Makes me feel a bit more relaxed xx
