Self-care every day 2019

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

@thisisnothow hello and welcome :) my brother has chickens in his garden the eggs are amazing from them. I've been looking at getting an allotment but with my illness atm I don't know if it's best idea. So just going to concentrate on me and self-care until I get right xx

@Nicpem1982 ah same as me then, I'm using a Christmas mug still, keeping those last few days of advent alive lol x

Tried coffee without 2 sugars today and survived. If I stick with that it has to do me good - inside and out!
I'm going to use Cold Turkey to block myself now and try to read a book. My concentration span has shrunk from online scrolling and I'm going to try to lengthen it to its previous capacity.
I'll touch up my toenails too Smile

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 10:29

@PenelopeFlintstone that's brilliant I've cut sugar a lot too, had a cpl of headaches for a few days but it was so worth it xx

@mumof2sarah

I’d never heard of Adrienne until this thread but I’m so glad I did. It was only about 20 mins this morning and my back feels so - pain free! I’m a support worker and things are heavy this week due to families’ crisis over Christmas and staff shortages. So I’m determined to “fill my own cup” so I can pour it on to others xx

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 10:47

@PearlandRubies194 we can do this, one day and one self-care thing EVERY day. Feeling very positive today x

Lovely thread. I have picked up a few ideas to introduce into my day. Def need to get outside more. Remember to take headphones so I can listen to music.

Reading instead of scrolling

Daily stretches

😊

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 11:33

Welcome @MrsSiba I've just had a few minutes at the door for fresh air best I'm getting with that today. Have a lovely day xx

What a brilliant thread. I had a similar resolution. Bit worn out by chasing around looking after everyone else's needs but never my own, so decided to put self-care at the top of the list this year.
Mine are:
write every day
do C25K
yoga every day
see and read more Shakespeare. Sounds worthy but I love his plays and hadn't seen any for years until a friend took me to one last year and I felt high afterwards, like when you go and see your favourite musicians live.

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 12:36

@OneStepMoreFun I love Shakespeare and have added one of his to my reading list this year just need to choose which one x

@mumof2sarah I've just been looking at Richard ll this morning. Such brilliant poetry in it and it's very funny too.

Some of the political speeches remind me of Thick of It. Mowbray going on about how he can keep a secret. His tongue is in prison. His teeth and lips are a portcullis. Going on and on and on, never shutting up about how he won't breathe a word. Just sounds like one of the parliamentary team gabbling in fear at Malcolm Tucker. Brilliant stuff.

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 15:18

@OneStepMoreFun that might be my Shakespeare choice Grin thank you xx

What a lovely positive thread, thank you OP Smile
My ideas so far are pretty much echoing everyone else's
Colouring books (kids brought me a lovely one for Xmas)
More music every day either listening or playing
Look after my health by drinking more water
Reading books again
Taking a little quiet time for me

I started a new job a couple of years ago and threw myself into it but I've now realised I've let it take over my life and any free time which has got to stop.

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 17:30

Thank you @Teaistheanswer and welcome :) your ideas sound lovely xx

I took a bath and reclaimed my house from the festive madness. I consider this self care:)
I took my vitamins and did a meditation this morning.
I’m more aware I need to do something for myself daily, so I found myself putting time aside and not channeling my inner Beverly for a change 😂

BlessYourCottonSocks · 02/01/2019 19:44

An excellent idea for a thread! I'm a teacher and every year I swear I'm going to have a better work/life balance. This year I'm definitely going to do it - feeling inspired by lots of these suggestions.

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 19:44

@8FencingWire LOVE this. Well done you xx

This is a great thread! I would like to:

• spend less time online/on my phone
• be in bed by 10 pm when I have work/DS has swimming the next morning
• drink much less fizzy juice and much more water
• eat breakfast every morning

Will definitely be stealing everyone else ideas too!

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 19:53

@Blondie1993 I've drank so much water today and I feel so much better for it xx

Sounds like a great idea. I don't really get much time to myself as I am a single mum of 3 and no outside help but I can still try some.

Cooking decent meals would be one (I'm a bit lazy when it comes to cooking).

Reading even a page of a book.

I'm starting an nvq3 at work so that's a big thing I'm doing for myself as I need to plan for the future when I can work more hours.

I like the writing a positive thing every day idea i have been struggling with depression lately so feel that may really help.

mumof2sarah · 02/01/2019 20:10

Welcome @Santasshoe, I hope you find this thread useful and find your self-care time xx

I've walked every day this holiday so far (with DDog). My problem with work at this time of year is I never see daylight. I might focus on a longer walk each Sat/Sun. (DH walks dog during week as he is at home)

People who want to do more cooking from scratch - have you seen The Roasting Tin and The Green Roasting Tin books? Really easy recipes.
