...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

Ooh nice. How expensive are we talking here? I'm on maternity leave, and therefore pay, so I haven't bought anything nice for ages!

Allice · 19/12/2018 14:54

Lovely, which candle?

I've just bought 9 large bars of Godiva chocolate.
In my defence, I had vouchers. I complained after my advent calendar was empty for 2 days on the trot and they sent me vouchers which can only be used for chocolate.

BusySittingDown · 19/12/2018 14:55

It's Christmas - treat yourself! Xmas Smile

If you can afford it and it brings you joy then why not?

There are people who might suck their teeth at paying such a large amount for a candle but there are people who think nothing of paying £4 for a Starbucks hot chocolate each week or blowing £100 on a night out.

I love a nice candle and, to be fair, they last ages! Is it scented?

myfatarse · 19/12/2018 15:03

i bought some everyday knickers from Fatface - 3prs for £27 but they fit really really well :)

MysweetAudrina · 19/12/2018 15:17

I spent 200e on alcohol on a night out last week. I would have much rathered a candle.

dearohdearohdear9 · 19/12/2018 15:18

Now my children are adults they take turns each year to get the extra expensive present. This year, I decided its my turn :-)

Estee Lauder christmas special

Kurt Geiger over the knee flat leather boots

Superdry Jumper

3 edwardian gold rings

My first (and probably last) christmas of total personal indulgence due to being sick and tired of enabling adults who live payday to payday and have bad financial boundaries.

Shirleyphallus · 19/12/2018 15:21

I never have any idea why people are so judgmental over what other people spend their own money on.

Designer handbags and £300 haircuts always get the wrath but why is it anybody’s business what anyone spends their own money on....?

PottyPotterer · 19/12/2018 15:26

A big fluffy black cat onesie whilst out Christmas shopping this morning Grin Oh and some more expensive than usual shower gel.

MerryBear · 19/12/2018 15:28

100% chcocolate buttons.

Onehellofaride · 19/12/2018 15:33

I always buy Jo Malone handwash for my downstairs bathroom! I love it!

rosie39forever · 19/12/2018 15:36

£300 on a pair of sunglasses felt sick as I left the shop, but they are truly fabulous 😎

hendricksy · 19/12/2018 15:40

I have three Mulberry bags and numerous other expensive items but I would never pay )50 for a candle .. I just don't get them .. each to their own though 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

SymphonyofShadows · 19/12/2018 15:46

I’ve just bought myself a Kitchenaid mixer. It was reduced in a sale and I have Christmas money to pay for half of it but it still feels extravagant. It will get loads of use though, not just by me.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 19/12/2018 16:15

£120 on a pair of ludicrous boots for a special occasion. They will be worn indoors no more than 3x a year.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 19/12/2018 16:19

HoF had 50% off because they’re closing. I bought a Radley handbag. Grin

caperplips · 19/12/2018 16:21

I would LOVE to see the 3 Edwardian gold rings, or at least have a good description of them, I adore jewellery.

I'm also interested in the £300 sunglasses - which ones? I am on the lookout for a nice pair.

Today I was supposed to be shopping for presents but I ended up buying myself a beautiful patterned Whistles top, a Whistles stretch velvet tube skirt and a Mint Velvet dress. And I'm only feeling vaguely guilty....

I am a fan of Jo Malone and L'Occitane hand washes and shower gels too

Tell us more about the candle

And the fancy £120 boots...

WhoKnewBeefStew · 19/12/2018 16:21

I’m teetering in the brink of buying a mulberry handbag on the quiet 🤫

caperplips · 19/12/2018 16:22

buy it whoknew....!!

Janecon · 19/12/2018 16:32

@dearohdearohdear9 your last comment struck a chord with me. I'm buying expensive presents for adults who borrow money yet live extravagant lifestyles....... meanwhile I forget to treat myself.
I'm going to buy myself something lovely over the next few days. Life is too short.

By the way I love the sound of the Edwardian gold rings.

OP - I hope you enjoy your candle. Well done on treating yourself.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/12/2018 16:33

This year, £140 on a Shawn Mendes ticket, worse in the past.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/12/2018 16:36

Oh, gosh - last month I signed up to a £500 a month personal training studio and today I bought myself a 31-year-old rare single malt at a price I’m not even going to mention. So dispel your shame and just really enjoy your lovely candle!

dearohdearohdear9 · 19/12/2018 16:39

@Janecon

After posting I wondered why would anyone apologise to strangers for treating themselves with their own money. Clearly its to encourage others to do the same Xmas Grin Ebay has some cracking deals on old rings, ensure you can see the hallmark on the photo and buy with a credit card.

halfwitpicker · 19/12/2018 16:40

Night alone in a posh hotel last weekend to attend the Christmas do. Could have just got a taxi home 🤔😁

halfwitpicker · 19/12/2018 16:41

HoF had 50% off because they’re closing. I bought a Radley handbag. grin

^

Now this is interesting

Nicknamesalltaken · 19/12/2018 16:43

I bought myself a Glossybox advent calendar for £60. As well as the M&S one. Both Completely unnecessary.

I’ve also bought myself Christmas presents. Just in case. (But mainly because I was buying for everyone else).
