...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

Oh @LadySybilPussPolham what type? I got two pairs of fly boots in the sale last year.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 20/12/2018 01:05

SilverySurfer buy the cutlery!!

I bought a load of mixings to make my own candles and body butters so I and my house smell exactly the way I want.

Very tempted to hit the buy button on some sleep headphones cheaper than braining snoring dh

I once bought myself ten MAC lipsticks in one go, came to £165. Shock Was worth it though, they were part of a collection of really funky colours and I wanted those particular ones. Grin And because I have a Debenhams beauty card I got a shit load of points, which meant that I bought myself an Urban Decay lipstick for 50p.

TeeBee · 20/12/2018 05:49

I just spent several hundred pounds on a cleaning company to blitz my house before Christmas and £1000 on one radiator. You lot are making me feel much better about it.

BertrandRussell · 20/12/2018 06:51

It’s a Cire Trudon candle and it was £70. I am very excited. Someone I know had one last Christmas, and I loved it. So subtle but lingering, if you see what I mean......

Mol. I wanted Solv but the only pair I can find in my size are silly ££!

PrivateEggnog · 20/12/2018 07:05

I got my sister a Leuchterm journal for Christmas... When it arrived it was so nice I ordered one for myself. I also bought some Italian nougat for my own Christmas stocking and have already eaten it all. Will probably just by myself some more!!

Pantah630 · 20/12/2018 07:17

OneSmall I went the extra mile and treated myself to another bike for the collection last time I splurged Wink

JingsMahBucket · 20/12/2018 07:18

Yesterday I spent €26 on two tiny lip balms from Aesop because I couldn’t decide which one to get, or rather, I justified uses for both kinds. One was a hydrating cream balm in a metal tube and the other was a traditional kind. Fuck it. A couple weekends ago I spent €30 on a bottle of their hand wash to put in the bathroom because it fucking smells nice. I feel like being surrounded by a few nice things.

NameChangeToAvoidBeingFound · 20/12/2018 13:27

@LadySybilPussPolham, nice love fly boots.

The new Kindle paperwhite.

EyeSaidTheFly · 20/12/2018 13:34

I just spent 2k on a necklace which is so fancy I won't get much wear out of it at all.

I don't feel guilty, I feel fabulous. 😁

NonaGrey · 20/12/2018 13:43

Brizzle there is nothing unreasonable about a new Kindle.

Ever.

NorthernRunner · 20/12/2018 13:47

The Christmas before my dd was born my husband and I figured it was the last chance to buy something unjustifiably expensive so I brought myself some black ankle boots, they were £500 but 5yrs on still going strong. They get a lot of wear and I love them.

Riotingbananas · 20/12/2018 13:53

Yes, a motorhome (and we were only looking Shock ). It has been a shit year, and the money was to put towards a new house. And I dont regret it for a second. Am all for an impulse buy tbh.

HollyandIvyarelivingitupagain · 20/12/2018 13:58

Mini shame,dd and I unwrapped and ate chocolates bought as a present, expensive truffles but we couldn't help ourselves.Have a few days to buy more but nearer the giving date to prevent temptation

ChelseaBabbage · 20/12/2018 14:01

I bought myself some blue velvet boots. They weren't actually expensive but I have nothing to go with them, I have about 60 pairs of shoes so don't need them and in fact I will probably never wear them. But they are beautiful Blush.
Actually I gave them to DH to wrap up for me for Christmas.

MaudesMum · 20/12/2018 14:01

I'm single, with only a small family, so I started buying myself Christmas presents a few years ago. Sometimes things I'd be buying anyway, but I put one side until Christmas (eg nice shower gel from TK Maxx), sometimes things to make the festive break a little more enjoyable (books, dvds). And recently the M&S Beauty Box, just because. Last year, I went a little mad and bought an All Saints leather jacket at £294 - the most I've ever spent on an item of clothing. I still love it and have worn it loads. This year, I've bought two Sonos wireless speakers and a piece of kit which allegedly enables them to connect with my existing CD player. Total cost £650. Gulp. In my defence, I was down to one working speaker on my current hi-fi, and I'd just received some good news about future work, but I'm working very hard not to feel guilty about treating myself.

SweetFry · 20/12/2018 14:05

Not sure about silver cutlery - silver has a taste to it, buy it to look at maybe?
Yesterday I bought myself a deep far fryer to make lovely chips!

WanderingTrolley1 · 20/12/2018 14:08

Probably some Thomas Sabo earrings, which were £70

ohdearmymistake · 20/12/2018 14:09

Well I'm paying for a tree sculpture to turn a stump into something fabulous, not cheap but what the hell you can't take money with you it's been earned to make life nicer.

Fippy · 20/12/2018 14:10

Ooh, where did you get the Edwardian gold rings from?

HalfBloodPrincess · 20/12/2018 14:16

I was in lush and the girl serving me said they were discontinuing their Blousey shampoo next year.

So I bought 20. For £199.

But I won’t need to buy shampoo again for a very long time!

PositivelyPERF · 20/12/2018 14:17

I’m going to sound ridiculously ungrateful here, because I usually get lovely gifts from my best clients all the time, but this Christmas they were all a bit ‘last minute, but it will do’ type presents. I’ve a badly injured hand that I’ve been doing therapy on every day for the last six weeks. It hurts every single day and the full movement doesn’t seem to be coming back. My house looks shit, I only put the tree up last night and I still have to go Christmas shopping for a couple of the kids presents tomorrow.

FUCK IT! I’m going to buy myself something stupidly pointless, expensive and beautiful, tomorrow. I love Mumsnet. Grin

Pinkyyy · 20/12/2018 14:21

I spent £80 on a tempur pillow. I slept on it for three nights, but felt so guilty that I took it back and got a full refund!

I don't agree with that at all.
