...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

Bought new yard boots as my Ariats are sadly no longer waterproof.

I then bought a pink velvet jacket on eBay because, as a pp said: velvet.

My candle arrived and it’s sitting waiting to be lit on Christmas Eve. I’ve told 17 year old ds how much it cost and sworn him to secrecy so I won’t be mocked by the rest of the family. Once he picked himself up off the floor, he found it hilarious and will undoubtedly drop me in it at some point over the next few days Grin. I pointed out that the holder is Venetian glass-but for some reason he found that made it even funnier.....

@HerRoyalNotness They are gorgeous and it's good to know they don't need much breaking in. Enjoy - I shall be shopping for some in the New Year.

Loveweekends10 · 22/12/2018 08:10

Two tops from Boden and a black nighty from Next. I may wrap them and give them to myself at Xmas.

JMAngel1 · 22/12/2018 08:20

Ooh I've been a madam thus year - last year was upset that I didn't get anything lovely - just functional stuff so this I have spent around £150 on myself on
rose gold necklace and ring
Prai skincare set
Fancy velvet bra and knickers
Girgeius bath oil

Hassled · 22/12/2018 08:24

I bought my first ever designer handbag this year - it's small and comparatively cheap compared to the silly money you can spend, but still, part of me cannot quite believe I spent that much on one bag. But I love it, and it was a reward to myself for a year of working full-time (after years of being part-time).

Auntpetunia2015 · 22/12/2018 08:26

Glad it’s not just me who buys their own presents. I’ve bought myself a kindle fire my old tablet cracked a few years ago in the heat in Canada. And up until reading this thread I felt guilty for doing that ...now I’m wondering what else I can Prime!!

SoEasilyCaught · 22/12/2018 08:26

Cire Trudon? YANBU.
Spiritus sancti? YADNBU.

hiphopapotamuses · 22/12/2018 08:50

I've just bought myself some fancy Bose noise cancelling headphones so I can mute the children over Christmas. I'm now considering buying myself a fancy candle, canteen of silver cutlery and a bike...Xmas Smile

sparklepops123 · 22/12/2018 10:18

Hold on if you want candles, I'm sure all the Yankee and woodwick ones in boots were reduced to half price last Boxing Day ( obviously nobody buy any TIL I've got my lot 👍)

Auntpetunia2015 · 22/12/2018 10:43

sparklepops thank you for the reminder..now I live in a town centre my local shops are boots Debenhams and m&s..I’d forgotten about the Boxing Day sale and had been bemoaning the fact the kids are at their dads for the day so I was gonna be home alone..now I’m going shopping !

sparklepops123 · 22/12/2018 11:16

Ha ha you're welcome Aunt !

Avegemitesandwich · 22/12/2018 11:23

Spiritus sancti? YADNBU.

'Spritus sancti' is a brilliantly pretentious name for a ridiculously expensive lump of wax

Avegemitesandwich · 22/12/2018 11:23

*Spiritus

OldGrinch · 22/12/2018 11:27

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2018 12:30

OldGrinch · 22/12/2018 12:41

OMG what a website! I really want one of those candles. I wonder what the " Old Mossy Walls" one smells like? Grin

OldGrinch · 22/12/2018 12:42

Does the candle really smell nice? The scented candles I buy seem to smell of almost nothing.

OldGrinch · 22/12/2018 12:43

Mind you they are £5 in Asda!

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2018 12:45

Of course it smells nice. It smells of splinters of gold, crimson and olibanum........

I treated myself to these in town this morning when taking the DCs to do their xmas shopping.
I do not feel guilty as you lot talking about candles made me do it.

Ooohh Drizzle, one of those says it " crackles whilst it burns" well I never did, the things you can get nowadays!

Triskaidekaphilia · 22/12/2018 13:07

I'm very tempted to buy a selection of american pop tarts on amazon. At £23 it's not unaffordable but seems a bit unneccessary Blush

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 13:08

oldgrinch one of those says it " crackles whilst it burns"

What? No! I bought a glass candle holder, it'd better not crackle while it burns.....I'm so glad you warned me.
