...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

Got the dyson airwrap the day it came out in the UK. Hubby contributed towards it for Christmas but it was £450.
On the plus side every time I use it I don't have frizzy hair. Been fighting frizzy for all my 38 years so I'm well happy.

Accountant222 · 22/12/2018 22:08

I'm seriously considering a sheepskin coat from Celtic Sheepskin, but only offer at the moment is £20 off

MadisonAvenue · 22/12/2018 22:20

I’ve bought myself a Dyson hairdryer. It’s wonderful! I have thick and quite long hair and I usually have to wash it and then leave it to air dry for an hour before properly blow drying it but with this I can dry it quickly as soon as I get out of the shower.

It’s hidden in my wardrobe so that I can avoid the cries of “HOW MUCH?????”

KillingInThenameof764 · 22/12/2018 22:21

I bought my myself 6 boxes of tea pig tea bags 😆 . Maybe not extravagant to some people but I wouldn't usually buy anything other than Asda's own brand herbal tea . I will really enjoy them too !

Fashionista101 · 22/12/2018 22:32

My friend works at jo malone and sent me a 30% off code if used yesterday so I bought 5 wick candle.....gulp.

BollockingBaubles · 23/12/2018 00:57

@Cakemonger
The airwrap does t use extreme heat like tongs so kinder and causes less damage to the hair. Also drys and styles hair at same time too. I find it much much easier to use that curling wands and I've curled my hair more in the last month than I have in my entire life.

I got the complete set at £450 which is a lot of money but it's basically 6 products in one and since buying I've not used any other product. When I add up costs dryer, ghd curling wand and straighteners then they cost more than this so while it sounds very expensive, it's cheaper than what I already own.

(Can you tell I'm still justifying the expense lol)

Cakemonger · 23/12/2018 01:03

Thanks BollockingBaubles. I don't curl my hair that often so I'm not bothered about hair damage but I am terrible at using traditional tongs so if it's actually easier to use that's interesting. Watching tutorials online it looked just as awkward/difficult to use as other tongs but I guess you can't tell with these things till you use them? Can't stretch to it at the moment but hoping the price will come down in future!

Skatersbeskating · 23/12/2018 01:04

Earrings
Slippers
Paper set

£35 all in. Not bad.

Cakemonger · 23/12/2018 01:06

KillingInThename Teapigs tea is one of my biggest extravagances. Totally worth it.

BollockingBaubles · 23/12/2018 13:32

You're right @Cakemonger, a lot of people who use tongs feel the airwrap is clunky and heavy to use.

Some chains of department stores have a demo where you can try it out. Having seen how many people it doesn't work for I'd def say to try it before buying if possible. I absolutely love mine but there's a lot who think it's shit.

QVC have instalments plan and you can return if don't like it.

Boots advantage points also might give you a chunk of money back too.

Cakemonger · 23/12/2018 21:54

That's a great idea about trying it out in a department store, thanks @BollickingBaubles . Oh, just imagine what you could do with the Boots points!

JingsMahBucket · 24/12/2018 08:28

@HundredMilesAnHour Thank you for turning me onto Paul Smith. I need a new wallet and the postcard purse/wallet is almost exactly what I’ve been looking for www.paulsmith.com/uk/women-s-off-white-envelope-leather-card-purse. OH and I going gift shopping together later today in a large department store and I'll check those out.

QuaterMiss · 24/12/2018 09:08

Lordy ... I thought I'd put my candle years behind me - but herbs and camphor? I cannot think of anything more necessary for early spring ...

My life is generally predicated on pointless extravagance in the face of chaos - and the reckless purchase of hideously expensive books 'for research' - but the Yemeni coffee I'm opening tomorrow is is making me feel unreasonably virtuous.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 24/12/2018 15:14

I appear to have just bought this (£38.50 in the sale). I knew all those ads would work in the end.

I’ve just bought myself.....
BertrandRussell · 25/12/2018 09:02

The candle is lovely. Ds is wandering past it and making “Ooh- cool candle, mum- smells just like splinters of crimson and gold........” type remarks......

Ha, wonderfully put Quartermiss.

Titsywoo · 26/12/2018 01:25

I've just spent £250 on some very nice bedding in the sales. New duvet, pillows, mattress topper, duvet cover and pillow cases. Really nice quality ones. Hopefully my bed will be even harder to get out of in the morning now! Grin

user1471453601 · 26/12/2018 01:33

Oh yes.. An expensive cashmere hoody. Never thought I'd put those two words in the same sentence. Ah well, it was in the sale

BertrandRussell · 26/12/2018 10:08

Talk to me more about cashmere hoodies.........?

Just bought these: www.toms.co.uk/women/black-suede-womens-ella-booties

Towerofjoyless · 26/12/2018 10:38

A Lego set for adults. It cost £140 and I've had my eye on it for the past year, when Lego announced it was being retired soon I decided to go for it! We recently got a refund from our energy supplier so I used my share to buy it Grin

C8H10N4O2 · 26/12/2018 23:45

Was it the Nazareth candle? A neighbour occasionally buys one of their candles and she had a Nazareth this year - it was Christmas in a candle.

I have dribbled over them in Liberty's but so far "its a lot for a candle" in my head has stopped me. I did love some of the incense and mossy types though.

KatoPotato · 26/12/2018 23:47

ILoveChristmasLights · 27/12/2018 00:34

I’m so not s girly girl 🤣. I’m far more excited about towerofjoyless’s Lego set! Which one did you get?
