...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie don't you dare feel ashamed! So many times mothers talk about how they never buy anything for themselves and only items/clothes for their kids. Enjoy your new gifts for yourself. It's okay to take care of yourself :)

SmokeGetsInYourEye · 21/12/2018 08:53

@HerRoyalNotness Link to Gensons please, I need new shoes!

ChodeofChodeHall · 21/12/2018 09:13

Just here to say that £120 is not an awful lot for a decent pair of boots.

Got to take care of your feet!

Dowser · 21/12/2018 10:05

My latest haul of vitamins and supplements cost £173
Essential rather than an indulgence

BusterGonad · 21/12/2018 10:14

Sapphire I read your post, thought to myself I know that poster, and yes, it was you The Lipstick Queen!
I've spent about £100 on new clothes, 3 retro t shirts, denim short shorts, cotton shorts and a primrose yellow hippy top, all summer clothes as I'm a lucky woman and am currently on holiday! Oh and a pair of earrings!

caperplips · 21/12/2018 10:20

This is possibly my FAVOURITE thread!
I can;t wait to see the photos of the rings!
I am intrigued by the very fancy necklace and would like to know more about it too.
And I would love a link to the Grenson boots, as I love them - would also like feedback about how comfy they are as am tempted but have never purchased.

So many beautiful, thoughtful things here, I am glad some of us are taking the time and the money to treat ourselves, however big or small, at this time of year when so much effort goes into making everyone else's Christmas great.

Keep the confessions coming Grin

Avegemitesandwich · 21/12/2018 10:47

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie best username ever, I love that film!

HerRoyalNotness · 21/12/2018 12:32

@SmokeGetsInYourEye

Sale on, I bought the Veronica. I like the emma line too grenson

LadyFlumpalot · 21/12/2018 12:58

Not particularly recent but DH and I popped into a jewellery shop to "browse" eternity rings and ended up splurging £500 on a rose gold, diamond and ruby tiara shaped ring. It's beautiful!

Buy the stuff. As long as it doesn't cause you financial difficulties. Treat yourself. There are no pockets in a shroud.

wannabebetter · 21/12/2018 13:14

A February holiday to Lanzarote! Ostensibly for me but am giving to DH for Christmas (as obvs he's coming too!)

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 21/12/2018 13:33

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/12/2018 13:44

This thread is well timed as I sit on my sofa feeling guilty about just spending £580 online in the Paul Smith sale. Blush

In his sale last year, I bought the most amazing trainers at 50% off. Everyone comments on how fab they are plus they're super-comfy. I wear them almost constantly (including today) as they go with pretty much everything. He released the same style this year but in a different colour/print and I've been lusting after them for months and checking to see if my size is still available. I couldn't justify paying full price for them (£350!) so I just stalked my size online every week. Blush hoping I didn't end up upset if they sold out. Anyway, I just got home and was having a lunchtime social media browse and saw the Paul Smith sale had started. Argh!! And of course the 'wonder trainers' are 30% off. I had to buy them. And a new purse that was 70% off (same print as my previous year's trainers that I love) and a necklace that yet again I've been lusting after all year but refusing to pay full price for but it was now down to 50%. It seemed like a sign. But £580?!!!!!! Am wracked with guilt now and promising myself I won't do any more sale shopping. Ever. Well, not for a few months at least.

CrookedMe · 21/12/2018 13:44

From my very strict Christmas budget I managed to get myself some Benetint and a top from H&M reduced to a fiver. I'm happy!

Deathraystare · 21/12/2018 14:02

Well I haven't bought any expensive candles but in Debenhams they have small sizes of some cosmetics, skin care etc so I bought some Estee Lauder stuff, a Kat Vo D eyeliner and other stuff. Treated myself to an eye serum as well. I do not have an 'embarrassment' of Christmas or birthday presents so I thought I would treat myself!

Didiusfalco · 21/12/2018 14:04

@HundredMilesAnHour I’m really curious about these trainers - outside my budget but sound amazing. Any chance if a link?

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/12/2018 17:29

@Didiusfalco

These are this year's trainers that I have been obsessing about:

And this is the print that my previous year's trainers (same style as above) were in and that everyone seems to love! (including people who you don't think notice this stuff).

SilverySurfer · 21/12/2018 17:33

I still haven't persuaded myself to buy the canteen of cutlery but have now seen a gold watch the same as the one I got from my parents for my 21st birthday over 50 years ago and which some years later was destroyed in a fire. I'm going for it.

PositivelyPERF · 21/12/2018 17:35

Definitely go for the watch. I think you will get a lot more joy out of that.

Didiusfalco · 21/12/2018 18:07

@AHundredMilesAnHour dammit I love them! Grin

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/12/2018 18:11

@Didiusfalco Sorry!!!!! Flowers

Glad someone else gets why I've become slightly obsessed Blush

Ohhgreat · 21/12/2018 19:39

I love those trainers! In this case I'm glad I have wide feet so they wouldn't fit, I really shouldn't spend that much on shoes!!

wonkylegs · 21/12/2018 19:46

Some beautiful soft Spanish leather ankle boots.
I was in town on my own for once and saw they had a sale on in the shoe shop. Popped in as I've been looking for a pair of boots for ages and these are gorgeous and fit like a glove, would have been completely out of my price range if they hadn't had 50% off, so we're just a little extravagant instead.
I'm counting them as my work secret Santa present (I have my own practice and work alone Grin)

KittyLikesMagic · 21/12/2018 20:39

@PottyPotterer I have been looking for a black cat onesie, where did it come from?

I today bought myself a new mirror. My old one broke so it wasn't a random indulgence, and it wasn't expensive but it makes me very happy indeed!

PottyPotterer · 21/12/2018 20:53

This one from next Kitty www.next.co.uk/style/st281039#528588

HerRoyalNotness · 21/12/2018 21:43

@SmokeGetsInYourEye. Well the boots arrived and they are gorgeous. They wouldn’t take much breaking in. But, the half size is too big. I’ll have to return after hols and hope they have the smaller size in.
