...an embarrassingly expensive candle.

Has anyone else bought themselves something unjustifiably extravagant to make me feel less shame filled?

Pinky a lot of the more expensive stuff, such as an £80 pillow, have a satisfaction guarantee, so the poster hasn’t done anything wrong.

Pinkyyy · 20/12/2018 14:36

But she was satisfied with it, so she has. You can't buy a pillow for a couple of nights luxury then take it back for a refund. I'm pretty sure shops sell things- not rent them.

SumitosIsMyWall · 20/12/2018 14:43

I spent £75 on a first edition book. It was well priced and I was delighted...but even now the cost of the book makes me wince! I've named it as a specific item on my insurance because the last time I checked auction sites for this copy the cheapest copy was £150. Technically that's an investment...however as I'll never sell it I'm more concerned about replacing it if damaged!

PickleMeThis · 20/12/2018 14:48

I bought 2 of the Lego ideas storybooks.

I buy 2 of each of all of the limited edition Lego ideas sets, build one and keep the other new in the box.

Hoping they’ll be worth a small fortune in the future.

Some Bose headphones, partly bought with vouchers but mostly paid for by me. I normally make do with crappy cheap in ear ones but these are a dream while I go running or listen to lots of podcasts while I work, don’t regret it a bit!

Skinandbones · 20/12/2018 15:05

Was thinking of some new headphones too. I've had a load of ear infections this year tho, so was looking at the bone conducting ones.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/12/2018 15:07

£225 on my birthday present. Ethically sourced rough diamond necklace. I am completely in love with it.

CharDeeMacDennis · 20/12/2018 15:13

I am feeling much better about my recent splurges now.

£260 on (Ebay) All Saints shearling biker jacket. I got it in my head when it was freezing a couple of weeks ago that I needed a sheepskin coat. Of course, now it's arrived, the weather has gone mild and wet again so I've not been able to wear it... I need cold, crisp and dry!

£50 on Celtic Sheepskin slippers. Had a voucher for £20. Don't need slippers, but love them, they will be a present to me, from me.

dearohdearohdear9 · 20/12/2018 15:47

I will try and post photos of famous edwardian rings later (very busy day as having christmas guests early so the day its self can be mine)

Did I say three rings? ooops

bought another one.
They are coming from ebay, basic info earlier in the thread

To be truthful my rings have come out of my savings as gold is moving into a bull market so its better than leaving the cash in the bank. So in fact you can justify treating yourself to secondhand gold this christmas as it may just pay for christmas 2022.

Hope you all enjoy your treats, no matter how much they cost.

fantasmasgoria1 · 20/12/2018 15:49

We were frivolous on Saturday, in addition to the Christmas presents we have bought each other we took advantage of an good offer and spent £100 on perfume and aftershave!

MrsJBaptiste · 20/12/2018 15:50

I just spent 2k on a necklace which is so fancy I won't get much wear out of it at all.I don't feel guilty, I feel fabulous

I love that last sentence and am going to make it my New Year's resolution to live my life like that! 😁

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 17:07

nonagrey

Brizzle there is nothing unreasonable about a new Kindle. Ever.

I am happily not feeling guilty now Grin

Didiusfalco · 20/12/2018 18:28

@maudesmum I do this, because my dh is not a good present buyer. I’ve realised there is no point getting frustrated about it, so I treat myself. This years present from me to me is a lovely avoca scarf.

SilverySurfer · 20/12/2018 18:51

These treats all sound fab and I hope you get great pleasure from them.

Onesmallstepforaman · 20/12/2018 19:49

@pantah 630 a ducati perhaps, given your name? My spring gift to myself is going to be either a zzr1400, or a supercharged 1000. Roll on summer😊

hendricksy · 20/12/2018 20:02

I work in a big retailer and we don't refund bedding .. it has to be written off due to health and safety if it's been used .

Which is why I know that the pillow won't have been sold again and that the OP who took it back has caused that company a loss. You can't buy something you consider to be a luxury, use it and then take it back because it's expensive.

NonaGrey · 21/12/2018 01:39

I am happily not feeling guilty now

Glad to hear it Brizzle

I really love my Kindle.

Bloodybridget · 21/12/2018 02:46

Nothing extravagant recently, but I have paid a lot for books - completing my Antonia Forest collection was quite an investment - and I spent £100 on getting a 1913 London street atlas rebound, which I'd bought (several years previously) for 20p in a car boot sale!

turnipsaretheonlyveg · 21/12/2018 02:49

After 18 months of chucking box dye at my hair and getting ever more displeased with the results I had a total hair overall. It was 300 dollars well spent, I love my hair and my family have been very positive.

Expatworkingmum · 21/12/2018 02:53

I live overseas and just discovered I could buy Walkers crisps here and bought 25 bags. We never even eat crisps at home.

CatherineCawood · 21/12/2018 02:54

Yep a new car £30k+. I can't even work out how to unlock it properly. Doh!

citychick · 21/12/2018 03:06

I'm taking the family to Thailand for Christmas.

We live in Asia so it's not long haul, but it's not that cheap either. ShockGrin

A much needed break for us all.

Merry Christmas!

HerRoyalNotness · 21/12/2018 03:56

Grenson boots. Not the ones all the instagrammers are wearing, more refined ones. They were on sale and I had some cash back from credit card which paid for half. Arriving tomorrow. Wanting to wear them on holiday leaving Saturday but don’t like my chances of them being lovely and buttery soft and wearable from the get go.

Have arranged to send DH on an errand tomorrow and hope they arrive when he’s out Grin

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 21/12/2018 05:12

I went to town last night to buy some shampoo and ended up spending £100 on myself in H&M. To be fair I can't remember the last time I bought any clothes but still. I feel quite ashamed.
