The best nightclub...

Off the back of the other thread... what's the best nightclub you've ever been to?

(Disclaimer - my clubbing days were late 90s. Memories may be distorted by time. 😉)

Turnmills in Farringdon - Heavenly jukebox/heavenly social nights.

The Cross in king's cross. Three floors if I remember rightly catering for different tastes.

There are others but these are the main two I went to.

Also, my student union mid-week night at The Rocket - The Big Fish. Cheap drinks, epic dancing. 😁😁😁

Hacienda. Just some fabulous times. Lots of great clubs around Manchester at the time such as PSV or The Ritz

Haggisfish · 03/11/2018 01:48

The art school union in Glasgow. Massages, uv glasses, plasticine boards to play with, drummers live to induce trances...bloody brilliant!

I used to love Whirlygig, and Escape from Samsara and Return to the Source in the Fridge. We also used to frequent Strawberry Sundays in Vauxhall, and we lived nearby Club UK in Wandsworth so we would often go early to Whirlygig from 8pm until midnight, get the last tube home for a cup of tea and a smoke, then go to Club UK at 3am because it was half price then. 😀 Those were the days! 😀

MrsTerryPratcett · 03/11/2018 03:49

Casablanca in Liverpool. Weird house, odd bar and a chippy in the basement. Happy days.

Whisky2014 · 03/11/2018 03:58

Mushulu in Aberdeen. Metal club...fucking amazing! Grew up in there haha

Haggisfish · 03/11/2018 07:09

Trash-I was a cloakroom assistant there in Glasgow!

Kernowgal · 03/11/2018 07:37

Another Club UK fan - still got my old flyers. I used to go to Final Frontier on Fridays.

I was also a regular at the Arches in Sheffield on Fridays for No Logic. Just ace.

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2018 07:56

80s Birmingham, so Millionaires, Snobs and Faces.

But favourite was Bobby Browns off Broad Street.

Sitranced · 03/11/2018 08:05

Lakota in Bristol love that place.

BlueThursday · 03/11/2018 08:08

The arches in Glasgow.

It was a place where age and dress sense did not matter.

It was a travesty it was closed down and pretty much any DJ worldwide who’s played there will agree

The best nights of my life were spent in there

goes to weep in a corner

FaithInfinity · 03/11/2018 08:16

@SparklingBrook I came on to say Snobs!! Before it moved. Man it was a dump, the toilets always flooded, the floors were sticky...but the music is awesome and we always had a great night there Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/11/2018 08:18

YY the music was always brilliant despite everything else Faith. Grin

Spiders in Hull circa 1997. Goth/indie/metal style, cocktails with great names (although can't recall any now) that were probably mainly Vimto & vodka. Elderly proprietors that mingled with the clientele, chatting to everyone. It was probably really scuzzy but to 16 year old me it was amazing.

Tuxedo Royale, Newcastle quayside circa 2000 l. AKA 'The Boat'. Small spaces? Check. Clunky revolving dancefloor? Check. Cheap drinks? Check. Foam parties? Check. All you need for a disorientating night out in one place. They replaced it with the Tuxedo Princess shortly afterwards which if I recall was marginally less poky although probably still a health and safety nightmare.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/11/2018 08:26

Loved Turnmills and The Cross

Also Bagleys, The Emporium and Legends (in Savile row)

Malibu Stacey’s (Carwash) and Labyrinth

thisonebreath · 03/11/2018 08:30

I'd forgotten the Carwash nights! They were awesome.

I think I'll be treating the DDs to some club classics today. Grin

Pretty much anywhere that did a foam party I can't imagine anything worse that getting soaked whilst trying to enjoy a night out now haha

Rowenaravenclawsdiadem · 03/11/2018 08:51

I went to Peach in High Holborn, Satellite but i can’t remember where that was! We drove up there took a load of drugs and drove back. How none of us didn’t die is a bloody miracle. I’d be livid and devastated if that was one of my dc now.

One of the best nights I’ve ever had was a GAY.

StoorieHoose · 03/11/2018 08:59

Mines is very local so I’m sure no one else will know it but Johns Indie Disco at Pennies in Falkirk early nineties. Utter fabulous club night that still makes me happy thinking about it

Immortalised in Arab Straps ‘First Big Weekend’ along with the Arches mentioned by pp

OutComeTheWolves · 03/11/2018 09:10

Pzazz in Sunderland. I'd do pretty much anything for one more Thursday night out there.

thisonebreath · 03/11/2018 09:42

@Rowenaravenclawsdiadem I remember the GAY nights! O can't remember what the club was called though.

I'm feeling all nostalgic. This was the days before internet when we'd get our copies of Time Out to see what was on.
