The best nightclub...

Off the back of the other thread... what's the best nightclub you've ever been to?

(Disclaimer - my clubbing days were late 90s. Memories may be distorted by time. 😉)

Turnmills in Farringdon - Heavenly jukebox/heavenly social nights.

The Cross in king's cross. Three floors if I remember rightly catering for different tastes.

There are others but these are the main two I went to.

Also, my student union mid-week night at The Rocket - The Big Fish. Cheap drinks, epic dancing. 😁😁😁

Garlands. Liverpool. Mid 90s. Roaring fire in the first room. Mythical basement.

goforkyourself · 03/11/2018 23:44

The Cabin in Liverpool, fucking loved it there! I loved the beautiful blonde woman who ran it..😅

zenasfuck · 03/11/2018 23:45

Sparkling it was eddies number 8 I think, long after we stopped going there.

Miss those clubbing days. Walking in with a bra-full of E’s and partying til dawn...,,Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/11/2018 00:04

Funny how few people are mentioning London clubs. My clubbing era was grunge/indie/rock/Britpop Early-mid 90s onwards and the only place to go was the Krazy house in Liverpool. I had the best times of my life in that place, I lived for the weekends and met my husband there. Was hoping my kids could go there in a few years but it closed this year as the longtime owner sadly died.

When I moved to London in 1998 I was gutted that there was no equivalent there. We tried and tried to look for somewhere with the same vibe but there was nowhere like it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/11/2018 00:05

And if anyone comes on to say The Razz, you’re banned! Grin

OytheBumbler · 04/11/2018 00:12

I remember the Krazy House! 2 for 1 cans of Red Stripe lager!

Liverpool had some great rock/indie clubs although we'd always go to the Phil first to be sophisticated

sadsadsady · 04/11/2018 00:15

Surprised no body has said The End. I used to work there. Amazing club.

Karting1967 · 04/11/2018 00:27

Anyone else remember the Conti in Manchester?

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 04/11/2018 00:40

@flossietoot I can’t believe I forgot about Kelly’s! I used to live nearby and from the age of 16 until 18 I was there practically every weekend!t was full of underage kids, my boyfriend was three years older than me and he hated it as he felt too old! This was mid till late 80s, with DJ Aluminium upstairs and all the goth alternative stuff downstairs. They used to have an O level results night, how they weren’t shut down I will never know!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 04/11/2018 00:40

You could have some really good nights out in the mid 90s for 20 including a shared taxi home. It makes me shudder even the cost of one round at the bar now, that’s the REAL reason why young people are more interested in travelling for Instagram than in a getting pissed every weekend on a night out. It’s got too expensive. People would rather spend the same money on travelling.

ChilliHobnobs · 04/11/2018 00:43

@puppymonkey our paths have probably crossed.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 04/11/2018 00:44

Oh I’ve thought of another one, the Crecent in Belfast! It was a complete kip of a place but you could get Rumplemintz. for 50p and you were pretty much guaranteed to pull. The queue for chips in the Sandy Row afterwards could be a bit hairy though.

Are nightclubs a thing any more? I have a 17 year old son who wouldn’t be caught dead in one.

user1496704878 · 04/11/2018 01:57

Legends Saville Row. I still remember the first time I heard 'strings of life' there. I loved Legends, anyone remember who ran the Sat night there and what it was called? I had a membership but fir the life of me can't remember Confused

Limelight.

Astoria

Bagleys.

A club in Maidenhead which had a swimming pool... can't remember the name but I remember getting thrown in and my pink & white LA Gears getting ruined. Grin

Gardening Club Covent Garden.

Camden Palace - mid 80's still at school and getting the N97 back home.

JoyceDivision · 04/11/2018 02:37

Town and Country club, Leeds, esp indie floor, many a happy night spent there!

nannytothequeen · 04/11/2018 03:39

The garage and Kool Kat in Nottingham
Leadmill in Sheffield
Rock shots in Newcastle
Paradise Factory in Manchester
Spiders in Hull - dirt cheap! Pinky Perky - vodka and strawberry milk!!

MissionItsPossible · 04/11/2018 04:40

I’ll read through the thread after so may have already been mentioned but my votes go to:

Cheapskates. I don’t even know if that was the name of the club or just the night but it was £1 a drink, the floors were so sticky your shoes would stick, it had leopard print walls and people openly being sick on the dance floor and being roughly hauled out for being too drunk. I loved it! Looking back I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a club by night and brothel by day.

The Jamm in Brixton (which I just googled and now see it’s called Brixton Jamm... and looks NOTHING like it did when I went Grin) It was a small venue, more of a pub than a club but one of the weirdest nights of my life: a grandmother of six (a regular apparently) off her head on pills, an arts and crafts corner, two (very friendly!) Alsatian dogs just being allowed to roam around the place and nobody cared drunkenly hugged them (me included) and just generally bizarre behaviour from the people in there. One of the best nights of my life.

Fabric. Used to love it.

All of those were in early 00’s.

I’m now nostalgic for my younger self (and doing drugs and not giving a fuck Blush)

PhaedrasChocolate · 04/11/2018 05:07

I live in Cheshire, and I've heard tell that there is a farmer that rents out his field every other year for a rave for the over 40's... All I have to do now is find it.. Grin

pinkmagic1 · 04/11/2018 05:40

Rock City Nottingham on a Friday night for rock night in the mid nineties. I loved that place and used to religiously every week when I was at college.
Cuba Libre, also Nottingham in the early 00's. R N B downstairs and salsa upstairs! Used to have some great nights there but it sadly started to attract some really rough characters and someone ended up getting stabbed and it closed down.

Darkestnight · 04/11/2018 07:08

Epping forest Country club before it went down here. Atlantis was great better than the other club in there

KevinTheCarrot · 04/11/2018 07:10

Wasn’t Rock night on a Saturday at Rock City? I thought Friday was Love Shack?

Cutthedrivel · 04/11/2018 07:22

The Cats Whiskers/The Studio at Streatham Hill
Hollywoods bar Streatham (in a basement sort of under the bus garage)
Musique in Croydon

Where I live now they had a club called Dusty's in the late 70s/early 80s and they still hold a Dusty's Disco Night once a month in the pub. Great night by all accounts.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 04/11/2018 07:32

Love that a few are also mentioning Krazy House . 2 for 1 on Thursdays - we’d get snakebite Pernod and black. Minging !

ElfrideSwancourt · 04/11/2018 07:38

@flossietoot another vote for the Coach in Banbridge. With hindsight it was a dump, but my 16 year old self thought it was the most glamorous place ever!

Woofsaidtheladybird · 04/11/2018 08:07

Turnmills, The Cross, Egg, Fabric, The Fridge, Imperial Gardens, Ministry of Sound, Space and Cream in Ibiza.... also some hilarious nights at Heaven in the very early 90s...

Had some fun nights at The Roadhouse and Break for the Border, Tiger Tiger and another place which was opposite TGIs in Covent Garden years ago
