The best nightclub...

Off the back of the other thread... what's the best nightclub you've ever been to?

(Disclaimer - my clubbing days were late 90s. Memories may be distorted by time. 😉)

Turnmills in Farringdon - Heavenly jukebox/heavenly social nights.

The Cross in king's cross. Three floors if I remember rightly catering for different tastes.

There are others but these are the main two I went to.

Also, my student union mid-week night at The Rocket - The Big Fish. Cheap drinks, epic dancing. 😁😁😁

Tiger Tiger, ministry of sound

Welshcake77 · 03/11/2018 11:23

Another one for Lakota! Used to go there every Saturday night from South Wales, brilliant nights and always fun having tea and toast at the services with everyone else on their way back Grin

Wobble in Birmingham was another great one...only went there for a year though when I first went to Uni before I became a bit more sensible and stopped having so much fun!

I'm a 90s clubbing kid....

Pure - Edinburgh
Sativa - Edinburgh
Sunnyside Up (Sunday morning Vauxhall arches?) - London
Turnmills (can't remember which particular night - think Trade was on afterwards) - London

The State in Liverpool in the mid 80's. There was always someone in the 6th form common room with a stack of free tickets for Friday night - as long as you were in the club by 10. The place was packed with 16 and 17 year olds.

The loos were downstairs and the walls of the stairwell were mirrored. You were weird/posh if you went into the cubicle on your own and the fug of hairspray by the mirrors was a fire hazard.

thisonebreath · 03/11/2018 11:40

@TooOooOnaStubbs that was the Heavenly Social nights - we'd sometimes stay for Trade as well. Good times. Grin

Another bite for Spiders in Hull but in the 80’s. It was all dark and gothic but the music was fab. Theatre of Hate, The Clash, Echo and the Bunnymen etc. Upstairs there was a smaller room where they played Stevie Wonder, James Brian etc. It was so cheap and they let us in at 16. Perfectly safe no fights and no drugs. Just lots it Tarantulas

It’s older equivalent was Silhouette which was a fab gay club in a basement in an old Victorian house. If you were over 6ft you had to stoop. It was the era of New Romantics so all the boys wore make up. Again they were pretty innocent times.

The 90’s we’re very different and I lived in Manchester. The Hacienda was fab but certainly edgier then my earlier clubbing experiences!

You would have to pay me to go to a club now! The music just doesn’t appeal to me.

TooOooOnaStubbs · 03/11/2018 11:56

@thisonebreath 😃 I was new to London then and really enjoyed those nights.

BoooForYou · 03/11/2018 12:20

Subsonic at The King of Clubs in Gillingham Kent. Indie alternative night was just epic, I found my fellow weird people there. Made some great friendships to this day.
It's about to be bulldozed and I could cry.

LBOCS2 · 03/11/2018 12:25

Black Sheep Bar in Croydon. There were other great nights in town, if you could be arsed to go to them, but the Black Sheep was consistently a really really fun night out.

Glitteryfrog · 03/11/2018 12:55

Liverpool folks do you remember where Garlands was when the original site burnt down?
It was a grand ballroom type place? I remember good ceilings and dancing on tables?

susiella · 03/11/2018 12:59

Limit Sheffield. No contest.
Rhythm Rooms Sheffield was pretty good as well.

Mumberjack · 03/11/2018 13:01

Room at the Top in Bathgate. Was only a tiny bit underage but it felt amazing to be at a ‘proper’ club with its three separate rooms.

Also loved the atmosphere at the Arches. Everyone so friendly! Then again it may have been the E...I never dabbled but went out and about with a nice crowd, some of whom enjoyed chemical enhancement.

billybullshitterz1 · 03/11/2018 14:36

The Zone in Preston. House club in an old Victorian Mill

SideOrderofChips · 03/11/2018 14:41

Jesters, millennium and C103 in Plymouth. Spent many happy nights in them

Goingalonenow · 03/11/2018 14:43

I mentioned it on the other thread because it was awful and had rats at one point, but Planet in Wolverhampton.

Back in the day when Steve ran it. It was all about the music - you'd go in your hoodie and jeans and have the best time. Headbanging was not optional.

It's still open but now it's full of people dressed up and it's just not the same.

The Garage in Glasgow. Loved the place and went most Thursdays and Sundays for student nights. Always ended the night singing along to Build me up Buttercup!

Loyaultemelie · 03/11/2018 15:52

The Parliament in Belfast before it became Mint or Mynt or whatever. My best mate was a gay man and I had some of the best nights ever there
Likewise the Kremlin in the very very early noughties.
Milk

MyNameIsNotSteven · 03/11/2018 17:00

I never did any of these as none of my friends were into clubbing. What's needed is a club for 40-somethings and I'll bloody well go on my own.

Athena51 · 03/11/2018 17:19

Alternative/Goth Night at Charles Nightclub in 1980's Cheltenham, it was on a Sunday night and was the place to be.

Eve's nightclub (also in Cheltenham in the 1980s).

Happy memories of teenage Goth Athena waving my arms around to Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Caberet Voltaire etc.

Such good good times Smile

Witchofzog · 03/11/2018 17:25

Labyrinth in Dalston London. And Rhythm Station in Aldershot. Both buildings were shitholes but my god the atmosphere was amazing. Happy days.

I also went to Megatripolis at Heaven under the arches in London. That was a bizarre but amazing place.

Carpetglasssofa · 03/11/2018 17:27
