What will be put in place to stop a peodophile /fetishist sitting in a female swimming changing room watching people undress?
I'd like facts rather than "I would think" and "i assume"

Bump?

The only safeguard I've heard people say is that no one would choose to be trans because being trans is so hard and awful, so only people who are "truly" trans would self-ID. And those people will pose no threat to women. This is the "it would never happen" line of thinking.

Meanwhile back in the real world, you are right. There is no way to tell the difference between someone with good or ill intent. This is the reason we have sex segregation in the first place. And sadly, we know that not only might it happen, it does already happen and we don't even have self-ID yet.

Xiaoxiong · 03/10/2018 10:57

I was telling a colleague about self-ID and he thought it meant that you'd have to send the forms in along with proof from your doctor that you've had surgery. But as far as I have seen from the proposals, no evidence will be required beyond a mere statement that you identify as male/female.

I will wait hopefully with you for someone to come along and tell us otherwise!

MrsBartlettforthewin · 03/10/2018 10:58

There isn't. I suppose there will be the route of reporting people for creepy behaviour but we won't have the right to challenge a male bodied person in a female changing room like we do now.

Basically, again, women are going to have to change their behaviour to keep themselves and their children safe.

peachescariad · 03/10/2018 11:02

Nothing

Polkasq · 03/10/2018 11:04

Nothing. Just say you're a woman and in you go Angry

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 11:10

But if this is the case, why are so many people for Self ID?

OP posts:
UpstartCrow · 03/10/2018 11:14

For many, its because they are badly informed and assume its for transsexual people who have had full reassignment surgery.

For some, because they are secretly delighted to get the chance to bully women.

thenightsky · 03/10/2018 11:15

Because 'many people' have no clue what it means in reality.

Onthebrink87 · 03/10/2018 11:20

I don't think a lot of people are for it so to speak, just frightened of being labelled a bigot and having abuse hurled in their direction from TRA's!

Fairenuff · 03/10/2018 11:25

Nothing. Just say you're a woman and in you go

Don't even need to do that. Don't say anything. Just go in.

No-one is allowed to challenge, ask for id/proof, anything like that.

There is no provision for the general public to check credentials.

So a man can just walk in, strip off and sit there watching other people changing.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 11:30

But this leaflet i received from the labour party tells me every person with apenis wanting access to female space is, without question, gender dysphoric.
Is this not reason enough to remove the requirment of a Gender Disphoria diagnoses by actual medical doctors?

OP posts:
ShotsFired · 03/10/2018 11:32

Of course he could "just" be sitting there. Which would be creepy and an odd thing to do.

So he could be "legitimately":
Drying his whole body with a towel.
Or rubbing moisturiser in all over.
Or doing his hair at the mirror.
Or having a lengthy shower ensuring his whole body is very clean.
Or making awkward "girls" smalltalk.

And you know how you just happen to catch someone's eye sometimes? Obviously any glances you caught of this person would be accidental and not meaningful and so you are just being bigoted and clearly transphobic if you report the person who was looking at you while they dried their genital area.

But of course, "this will never happen" because no men who are fetishists or sexual predators will ever try and subvert a tickbox process to get into women's spaces.

NormalPeople · 03/10/2018 11:45

I've heard arguments from some trans people actively rejecting the Gender Disphoria disgnosis because it is a menal illness, they state they are not mentally ill and truly believe a penis can be a female body part. Which would contradict the leaflet you've received.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 11:48

Which would contradict the leaflet you've received

A lot of things seem to contradict in the area of the promotion of Self Id.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 03/10/2018 11:52

People are ‘for it’ because we’re not allowed to talk about how trans women offend at the same rates as men. We’re not allowed to talk about now psychologists have said that dangerous men would absolutely take advantage to get to vulnerable. We’re not allowed to question why there doesn’t seem to be any actual evidence that trans women are in any danger in men’s changing rooms or toilets, even when we can produce eveidence of women being at risk from men in the women’s. And god forbid anyone mention the fact that some women and girls just don’t want to share their intimate spaces with male bodies.

TRAs will say it’s not allowing trans people human rights. It removes no rights to not change the GRC. To change it infringes on women’s rights but you can’t say that because transwomen are women!

PipGoesPop · 03/10/2018 11:56

Is self ID comes in I'm just going to report every single incident of a male bodied person in a female only space to the police. Directly. No fucking about with the manager of the swimming pool etc.

'hello?'
'there is a man exposing himself in the female changing room of XYZ'

If met with, 'could be a woman' I'll feign ignorance and say they can come along and deal with it.

If they're sitting there fully clothed perving at me/my daughter I'll do the same.

I'm not going ti sit back and take it on the chin.

Fairenuff · 03/10/2018 12:05

But this leaflet i received from the labour party tells me every person with apenis wanting access to female space is, without question, gender dysphoric.

Whilst that's not actually true, they are only talking about people who say they want to identify as female.

They have failed to consider that predatory males who do not identify as female will be able to take advantage of the removal of all safeguarding.

They don't actually care about the safety, privacy and dignity of women and girls. They are mostly men so females are always secondary in their considerations.

misscockerspaniel · 03/10/2018 12:16

It is irrelevant whether or not someone does or does not submit paperwork. Because how are we going to know? Ask them? Will they carry some sort of a card? Wear a badge? No, of course not. And this is why the concept of Self-ID is not just attractive to those with a genuine gender dysphoria but is also a free pass for perverts, paedophiles, those with a sex fetish, those with ill-intent etc etc.

peachescariad · 03/10/2018 12:24

It's not just swimming pool changing rooms, it's any female/women only changing room - shops, gyms etc.
There will no checks made....even if these men have changed their birth certificate (which will become a very easy, simple process if Self ID is brought in) there is no requirement to do anything else. A self identifying transwomen, will be a fully intact male. They will physically look like a man, dress as a man, they can have a full beard.
This is completely different to the current GRC requirements which some people with gender dysphoria chose to do.

I can't imagine the female changing room assistants in New Look, Primark, Top Shop etc, will have the confidence to challenge these men...there may be some queuing women who might vocally challenge them, but recent articles giving situations where questioning women have suffered the backlash of being called transphobic, may be too much for some and they'll just look away and let them into our spaces.

sashh · 03/10/2018 12:26

Nothing. If self ID becomes law, not one thing. Regardless of previous convictions, or if it's your abusive ex, or well you can fill in the blanks

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 13:04

ANd how can I help to prevent this?

OP posts:
Threewheeler1 · 03/10/2018 13:22

No barriers whatsoever to your average devious perv being given full entitlement to do what he wishes.
Women will have no right to challenge his presence in previously safe spaces.
A complete bonfire of any safeguards.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 03/10/2018 13:35

Sounds terrifying

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 03/10/2018 13:49

Spread the word. Tell everyone you know.

Most people are under the illusion that only those that have had surgery will be allowed access. They have not considered male bodies in female spaces at all.
