Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

I was around 2005 era... Remember cod and an incredible mum called riven, who had a disabled child.. She completely changed how I spoke to my patients

Tahitiitsamagicalplace · 19/09/2018 21:41

waves
I've been here since 2004. A few different accounts because I forgot log in details and a few dozen name changes since then.

MN was all abuzz about she-who-must-not-be-named being strapped to a rocket back then. Grin

NewToCats · 19/09/2018 21:51

I was here. I remember the fish, gentleotter, tictok, riven, boysarelikedogs (or something very similar), edam, nlnn, wombles, and many others. I think there are still many of the old crowd about.

Does anyone still read 'up the page' ?

Who was the blw guru?

MozzchopsThirty · 19/09/2018 21:52

I joined in 2004

Everyone loved COD, there were MN Xmas parties
People were much kinder, people are so nasty on here now, much less tolerant

ICantFindAFreeNickName2 · 19/09/2018 21:55

I can't remember when I joined sometime between 1996 when I had my DS and 2001 when I started looking at fertility options before I had my DD in 2002. I remember lots of posts about Gina Ford (I assume we are allowed to say her name now).

Trishtashtosh · 19/09/2018 21:56

Yes I was but not under this name - I remember there being some sort of blind date thread at a bird park in the Cotswolds...?! Anyone else remember? Didn't loads of mumsnetters go?!

SilkStone · 19/09/2018 21:57

I was here quite a bit back in 2006..These days very much just a lurker.
I remember gentleotter - didn't she live in a dilapidated farm house owned by a negligent landlord or something?
I remember Riven and her dd.
I remember purplepidg and her unfortunate incident with Cuprinol!

Tentomidnight · 19/09/2018 21:57

What year did BGH implode? That’s when MN became my hangout.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 19/09/2018 21:58

I've been here since late 2005 when I found out I was pg with DS.

I went out for curry with riven once...

flowerythorns · 19/09/2018 21:58

Aitch was the blw guru I think?

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 19/09/2018 21:59

Me! I joined in 2004

Ginmakesitallok · 19/09/2018 21:59

I joined about 10 years ago, after my first mc. Mn was a lot smaller then, got to recognise more posters. There wasn't the same media interest in it that there is now.

raffle · 19/09/2018 21:59

newtocats Nice try, you know what happens if we name her Shock

BirdieInTheHand · 19/09/2018 22:00

BLW guru was haitch.

I joined 10 years ago. Loved gentleotter, Morningpaper, riven, BALD, so many great posters.

flowerythorns · 19/09/2018 22:00

I can't believe how much info I posted back then. So bloody naive.

CAT me for more details Wink

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/09/2018 22:01

I joined in 2004.

I remember a huge furore when MNHQ introduced the chat topic. Up until then, there were only about 10-15 topics, all related to parenting as I recall, and people thought a general chat topic would be too frivolous. LOL.

I remember it being much more of a close knit community. You would get posts saying where is XXXX? Does anyone know if she is ok? Posters knew each other, or we thought we did. It took me ages to work out that posters who appeared to be bosom pals had never actually met each other.

Other poster's lives felt like they were your concern. I remember virtually mourning when one poster's baby died, and also feeling sick when I realised another poster's husband was going to die. I still remember getting back from holiday, saying hi, how is everyone? And being told another poster's husband had died unexpectedly.

The flip side was the cliquiness......

LEMtheoriginal · 19/09/2018 22:02

Joined around 2006 i actually find it a much kinder place these days.

2anddone · 19/09/2018 22:02

I joined in 2005. MN seemed much smaller then and people were nicer. OTOH people also didn't worry about causing offence or being as 'politically correct' as they are now and there wasn't multiple threads about the same thing. She who must not be named was all over the place with multiple theories

Numbkinnuts · 19/09/2018 22:03

Joined around 2003 ish

A few different user names.

I remember the 'she who mustn't be named ' saga with a parenting guru Smile

Sadoldbagpuss · 19/09/2018 22:04

2004, I thought it was all a bit jokey, quicky learned aibu wasnt Grin for some reason fabbychic sticks in my head as she was so rude. I have name changed a thousand times.

Electrascoffee · 19/09/2018 22:05

I joined in 2004. I remember the Wig&Robe fiasco. And Titania and the red rug!

iMatter · 19/09/2018 22:08

I joined in Feb 2004 when I discovered I was pg with ds1 and realised I didn't have a clue what I was doing Confused

mejon · 19/09/2018 22:10

Me - just about. I think I lurked a bit in 2006 but joined properly in 2007 when DD1 was a few months old. Kept the same name throughout - and I'm still more of a lurker than poster.
