Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

I love that HullyGully thread. It seems she was a bit marmite (I've since discovered on other MN spin-offs) but I got her. I've always found, when you're not sure if a thread is real or not, that it's best to just scroll past.

I think I joined around 2005/6. I remember Riven, SolidGoldBrass, HullyGully... loads of others that I don’t see anymore.

The first time I commented on a thread, I got the mickey taken out of me so badly Grin. I grew a thicker skin very quickly.

I also remember a poster attacking me on the adoption thread; loads of lovely posters helped me out.

I’ve had some great times on here.

Fontrieu · 22/09/2018 20:19

DS turned 19 this year, I joined when he was fairly young because I needed parenting advice. I quickly stopped posting about my difficulties with my son because there were a few names that just turned up on threads to slate the OP or create a bitchfest. And then the troll hunting began. Hmm
I have occasionally dipped back in but then I see the same old shit.
I didn't want my comments turning up in the dailyfail as news fodder on a dull day.
And yet there are still some sources of support that I have appreciated and still do. So I return occasionally.

I joined in 2007 or 2008 (lots of name changes)- mainly for breastfeeding advice from the amazing Tiktok. I remember a lot of names on here, vicarinatutu, stratters, bupcakesandcunting, hully, marmalade twatkins, la queen and Maryz. Also zombie, catthiefkeith.
I’ve used MN for lots of different reasons over the years and it has changed a lot - it used to make me howl with laughter, now it makes me howl with rage. Still important but for very different reasons now

Samcro · 22/09/2018 23:03

i do so remember back in the day mn was so small that i read all the sn posts in one morning, that was back in my 2shoes days.
it would take me days now

LittleBookofCalm · 23/09/2018 06:40

I missed the mouldi business, it is still talked about, but it must have been round christmas when my rl got in the way.
message in a bottle was a great time waster.
i joined 2006.
is this place less cliquey now?
seems so very argumentative, but I guess it depends where you post.

LittleBookofCalm · 23/09/2018 06:48

oh i used to spend a Lot of time on the Song lyrics threads Grin and my desk top computer, dial up, speed was so slow it used to muck it all up,

excalatingtradewar · 23/09/2018 06:56

Mouldies was just so .... school girl like. Really ridiculous.

Le Queen was outed or banned or both wasn't she? Think she made a lot of stuff up and used italics far too much.

Welsh Boris hasn't been mentioned I don't think

LittleBookofCalm · 23/09/2018 07:13

Can you even see unanswered threads now?

BIWI · 23/09/2018 08:31

@excalatingtradewar What do you mean? Both of them are still very much around!

lavenderbongo · 23/09/2018 08:34

I’ve been here since 2004/5. Don’t post much now but Mumsnet has been a lifeline for me many times. I remember Cod and Riven. I’ve learned moved to three different countries with Mumsnet and survived many a crisis. I will be forever grateful 😊

LucheroTena · 23/09/2018 08:42

I joined back then. It was funnier, a lot smaller but very cliquey. A new person could come on, reply with a helpful or very funny answer and be totally ignored. A couple of replies later, a clique member would come on, say the same thing and everyone would fall on them with praise. I hated that bit of it and that has thankfully gone now that it’s a more anonymous forum.

DottyDotAgain · 23/09/2018 08:49

Me, since 2000 because dp was pregnant- I remember feeling so nervous revealing dp is a woman Grin

It was so look much smaller then. I've dipped in and out over the past few years and am back to looking at threads more regularly but it was a complete lifesaver and my 'home' for many years around 2000 - 2010!

AgathaF · 23/09/2018 08:51

IheartNiles I still see that happening now, particularly on some boards, like relationships, but I don't think it's as bad as it used to be. It's still as annoying as it ever was Grin.

There was a poster whose marriage survived an affair who used to post in relationships frequently, usually advised reading the Shirley Glass book. She left some time ago after some kind of upset on here. Anyone remember her name or know how she is now?

Canshopwillshop · 23/09/2018 08:53

I joined in 2003 when I was having fertility problems so mainly posted on the fertility board. I got so much info and recommendation. The life changer was being recommended the book on Miscarriage by Lesley Regan and actually believe that without the info I got on MN I might not have gone on to have my DC.

I remember Mouse (anonymouse) and AnitaAnon and there was a Purple someone (Sam?). I remember LA Queen being kicked out. I was Amyy back then.

Canshopwillshop · 23/09/2018 08:56

Is LA Queen still here? I certainly remember some upset a while back ...

Holidayshopping · 23/09/2018 09:01

Le Queen was outed or banned or both wasn't she? Think she made a lot of stuff up and used italics far too much.

I know she lied about having a PhD but that was years ago-what was she finally banned for in the end?

Aragog · 23/09/2018 09:15

I joined January 2003 when Dd was less than a year old. She's now 16. I've had 3 or 4 different names in that time, and did dereg about a year ago, but rejoined a little while later - but obviously lost my 'proper' name as a result, which I kind of regret!

It was much smaller and you felt like you 'knew' people more. I met one of my closest friends, and one of DD's closest friends, via a meet up about a year after joining. I still know a few people from this early meet ups.

MN is different now. It's much bigger so the familiarity and personal conversations are far less. Plus my Dd is much older too so I use it far less and in much more different ways. It's a much bigger source of information in many ways now.

Aragog · 23/09/2018 09:16

Did anyone else do Mile for Maude

Yes. We did it with a group of other MNetters in Yorkshire.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 23/09/2018 11:36

I don't think it was Laqueen's own qualifications that were in question. Her MN "case" was, IMO, that of two wrongs not making a right. She is a narcissist who needed the approbation of MN, but the people who (apparently) stalked her in real life were arguably worse.

Agatha- the relationships person I think you mean would take over threads and apply her own experiences to the point that very often the original OP's story would become sidelined. Unless you mean the other one whose story turned out to be not quite as originally portrayed. I used to spend days at a time on relationships threads, then woke up and realised half of them were bullshit and now give them a swerve.

excalatingtradewar · 23/09/2018 17:33

BIWI LeQ is still here? Surely under a different name given the above? She even posted a photo of herself and her house, very very outing (obvs!)

BIWI · 23/09/2018 17:41

@excalatingtradewar - I was replying to your question about Carrie and Justine, not LeQ!

excalatingtradewar · 23/09/2018 17:50

Oh haha!!

excalatingtradewar · 23/09/2018 17:51

Didn't realise, forgotten I had even asked actually..

AgathaF · 23/09/2018 20:32

BookMeOnTheSudExpress, yes I think it was probably the first one. She was on so many threads then vanished. I always wonder what happened to posters like that.
