Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

Joined in 2004.
Does anyone remember judgeflounce? I think that was their name.

Mammysin · 19/09/2018 22:52

Riven, Maryz, Gentleotter, Xenia - since 2006 I think. So much support and friendship and sisterly support and aggro. Like real life. Got so much help from Floweybeanbag still here TG. Love to you all

overmydeadbody · 19/09/2018 22:52

I've been here since 2006.

I used to be a prolific post back in the day! Now I mostly lurk.

I remember on worry evenings we'd challenge each other to respond to unanswered threads and see if we could clear them all. Does anyone else remember that?

It was a much smaller place back then, and it did feel like you knew everyone.

Interested in this thread?

Oh and remember UCM? Under cover mum from what I remember. I'll never forget the time she had a smell fanjo so changed her name from UCM to ucm. Someone just posted "Is that you, UCM?" Hilarious.

Please explain!! Smelly fanjo??

BillThePony · 19/09/2018 22:55

I remember the unanswered threads, was such a lovely idea.

overmydeadbody · 19/09/2018 22:55

Tequila I too benefited from the Christmas appeal one awful awful year and I did literally sob at the kindness and generosity of everyone.

My ds is a teen now and was only little then but still fondly remembers the Christmas that Mumsnet saved!

mooncuplanding · 19/09/2018 22:55
  1. Many many namechanges
LapdanceShoeshine · 19/09/2018 22:56

She was embarrassed about it so attempted to change her name before posting

Post actually said “I’ve namechanged for this” iirc but it didn’t work & was headed UCM

next poster said “UCM, is that you?”

Was v funny. UCM was mortified.

WSPU · 19/09/2018 22:57

I’ve been here since 2003 or 04, under many names. I think the place is much less personal and meaner than it was, but that’s probably inevitable as so many more people read it. Favourite posters include:

AF
Maryz
Mrsdevere *
Getorf*
Solid gold brass
Dittany
Whomovedmychocolate*

*unsure about spelling

DameSquashalot · 19/09/2018 22:57

I joined around 2009 - started on netmums, but l flounced when a poster said she assumed every black lady she sees pushing a buggy is on benefits.

I remember HullyGully and Hecate. I tend not to look at user names now.

I was going to go to one of the Christmas parties, but bottled it.

Sorry, I know you asked for people of an earlier era.

Studentnurse1981 · 19/09/2018 22:57

I joined 2003

TwuntingCrow · 19/09/2018 22:58

2007 ish I think ... I remember Riven, COD and Xenia ... and MN meet ups at Christmas .. never got up the nerve to attend a local one but I did bring a local MN mum who was having a hard time over to mine for tea ...

notanurse2017 · 19/09/2018 22:59

I joined in 2000 I think. Plenty of name changes. Dip in and out of Mumsnet as I need to. Met one of my best friends via this website.

LapdanceShoeshine · 19/09/2018 22:59

Ha!

Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?
Alwa · 19/09/2018 23:02

I've been here since 2003/4 I think. Name change monthly now, no chance of being outed that way.

Used to be kinder with the odd cunt, now it's a little impersonal and lots of aggressive posters.

catherinedevalois · 19/09/2018 23:02

I remember Hilllary dying. She was the poster with a child with very severe allergies iirc. Can't believe her death was faked. Why? She must have been very mixed upSad

LaLaLamp · 19/09/2018 23:03

I think I joined 2007, remember Trinity and her child Gekko, I've name changed since the hack as stayed off a fair while.

ruddynorah · 19/09/2018 23:04

Yep 2006. Aitch, tiktok, mears, cod, hunkermunker, riven. Back in the day.

mrs2cats · 19/09/2018 23:07

I joined around 2000/2001 around the time I was expecting DS but I've name changed a few times. Mumsnet seemed a much more intimate place then. Gosh, I remember COD and Riven.

I don't seem to have as much time now to go on Mumsnet or maybe it's because it's so much bigger and there's more going on and more to read. Tend to lurk more than contribute now.

NewToCats · 19/09/2018 23:08

Its not quite the same now you can see the photos. This caught be out LOADS of times.

PestoSurfissimos · 19/09/2018 23:09

I joined in 2006, went to a few —extremely— —booze— meet-ups, made some good friends.

DorothyL · 19/09/2018 23:10

I joined 2001, started posting in 2003 or so. My most active time was during my very worrying pregnancy with ds 2006 - the support I received here was incredible and saw me through many dark moments.
Mouldiegate hurt me deeply, though that seems so silly now.
Don't post much these days but still lurk quite a bit. Remember all these old names!

Meesh77 · 19/09/2018 23:12
  1. It was definitely a nicer place then, but I could ever break into the cliques.
Mammysin · 19/09/2018 23:13

Yes! UCM and Whomoved... how could I have forgotten? Doh !

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/09/2018 23:14

Dumbledoresgirl!!!! I remember you!! And I had no idea who Dumbledore was so I thought you were just some kind of girl like a dumbledores

Yup, that was about it. Grin

Ah UCM. That was the ultimate classic thread.

And WigandRobe/judge flounce. How innocent we were! A man pretending to be a woman. It must happen a thousand times a day now.
