Anyone still here who joined in 2006 or earlier?

Just ... hello really.

I consider myself a bit of an oldie but there might be people still here who were posting from the very start (circa 2000/01 ish?).

I sometimes wonder what it would be like to go back 10-12 years on Mumsnet. Would it look significantly different? I remember lots of scandals about the changing of the appearance of the site. I guess there would be fewer adverts, sliders and pop-ups?

Woud we still have lots of threads headed like this
MamaGwhereareyou**

Hot topics of conversation might be baby modelling and the MMR. I can't honestly remember.

What do you recall about the early days of MN if you were here then?

2009 so I'm a newbie.. 9 years?! Where has that gone?

AlpacaLypse · 19/09/2018 22:12

I joined in 2007, I think. Have done a few NC's since. It was just after the Troll who Must not be named (i.e Mittmoo) - and also about the same time as The Television Nanny Person and The Injunction.

I found my people. I will never leave. Well, not for more than a few weeks or so when I'm busy or in Foreign Parts.

lisalisa · 19/09/2018 22:12

I’ve been here since 2002. I remember jimjams and an incredible post about her autistic ds who completely changed how I looked at autistic kids .
Yes there were a lot of vax debates and most posters had young children in those days

I think I joined in 2002 or 2003. I remember A few old names, Cod, misdee, rhubarb, mears.

ProjectGainsborough · 19/09/2018 22:13
  1. Got me through many parenting dark spots.

Although, fuck I’ve wasted a lot of time on here Grin

Holidayshopping · 19/09/2018 22:14

I can’t actually remeywhen I joined. I was on Wedding Guide UK and then on the Baby boards there and then everyone moved over to Baby Greenhouse. Then that imploded (I can’t really remember what happened it when it was!) and I ended up here!

themagicamulet · 19/09/2018 22:14

Yes. More of a lurker but I remember Riven. Also the great Waitrose Bottom Butter thing altho that was possibly a few years later. My dcs are all teenagers now

lisalisa · 19/09/2018 22:15

Another poster I remember was kateandthegirls whose husband died in 9/11

Ingles2 · 19/09/2018 22:16

I started lurking in 2004 and I’m still here.. still lurking! Grin I remember (vaguely) when we had to pitch in £5 to keep this place going!

AlpacaLypse · 19/09/2018 22:16

The poster who I remember most clearly from early days is Hecate. But there are huge numbers of old regulars who made me laugh smile or think about stuff a new way. Honeydragon and the spider twatting. HullyGully and the Bridezilla spoof Aibu. Oh lordy - loads!!!

ihatethecold · 19/09/2018 22:19

I joined in 2006 and still have the same username.
I do wish I’d had mumsnet when I was a teenage mum with an abusive partner.

themagicamulet · 19/09/2018 22:20

I seem to remember having to do a review of a pushchair or something when I joined as you had to contribute in some way to the online community...or maybe I just got the wrong end of the stick! Grin

IfIWasABirdIdFlyIn2ACeilingFan · 19/09/2018 22:20

I joined 10 years ago when pregnant with DS2. I loved valhalla’s Posts on the doggy board. I’m not sure it was even a specific dog board then, maybe just pets or something.

I remember Riven having to leave Sad and I went in a few local meet ups and met some lovely mums. Only one I see still posting today.

I think the first thread I read was by TLES. That was fun Grin

LemonScentedStickyBat · 19/09/2018 22:20
  1. First thing I read was some controversial comments about formula and I nearly ran but the Gina Ford stuff was amusing and the support for posters going through a hard time was really touching so I stayed and have namechanged many times.
Windyone · 19/09/2018 22:20

Probably 2002 ish didn't have my son until 2004. Have had a few names over the years. I mainly lurk but I admit I've learned a lot just from reading other people's experiences and situations.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 19/09/2018 22:20

I joined in 2006 when I was pregnant with dd1. I remember Cod, Haitch, tiktok, possibly more recently Maryz and tethersend. And Anyfucker has been around forever. I’ve had several names since then. A few names still crop up occasionally. One I do miss is CatThiefKeith. Sad

androbbob · 19/09/2018 22:20

Another oldie here - from the riven and purplepidg days - DD is now 16 and more of a lurker than poster really. Do we have to move to gransnet soon?!!

NotMoreHomework · 19/09/2018 22:20

I joined in 2003.

The "eating grapes in the supermarket" question was still quite recent. Justine used to ask for opinions about would-be advertisers, along with warnings that the voluntary £5 charge to CAT wouldn't cover MNHQ's costs for much longer.

Threads would stay on the Active Conversations page for most of the day. There weren't many threads about teenagers or adult children as most people still had babies, toddlers and primary school age children.

NewToCats · 19/09/2018 22:24

Gosh, those names have brought back memories!
Did anyone else do Mile for Maude?

SadVillageGirl · 19/09/2018 22:25

I can't remember my original name but I joined in 2002

Holidayshopping · 19/09/2018 22:27

Why did Riven have to leave?

marvellousnightforamooncup · 19/09/2018 22:27

I started on MN in Spring 2007, does that make me too much of a noob for this thread?

I remember the blind date at the bird park thread, Cod, Riven, Custardo. There were loads of regular posters then. People NC so much now, or maybe I'm less observant of usernames. Mind you, people actually used to post pictures and info in their public profile then which seems awfully quaint now.

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 19/09/2018 22:28

Joined in 2003. Am on here far far less now the DC are older and I'm working full-time, but I was always more of a lurker than a prolific poster. It feels like less of a community now but that could just be because I can't invest all the time needed to feel like that any more.
No matter. I hope people still get as much out of it as I did when the the DC were small and I had so many questions and worries.

My biggest learning from MN was to fuck everyone else and go with what works for me Grin

WhatIsThisTomfoolery · 19/09/2018 22:28

I was here 2007

Reality,FAQ,kerrymum and kerrymumbles

Dizzymare.... TLES.... a lifetime ago!

thenightsky · 19/09/2018 22:29

Can't remember exact date of joining but must have been 2005 approx. AIBU wasn't invited then.
