In a market flooded with options, choosing a wand vibrator can be a tough choice. Should you go for mains powered? Rechargeable? Small? Large? Silicone? Hard plastic? I also like the Unbound Ollie wand. It's USB rechargeable and waterproof so it can go in the shower.

Our verdict

Out of all the wand vibrators I’ve tested recently, Unbound’s Ollie wand is so far my favourite.

Not only is it affordable at RRP £70, it’s incredibly soft, easy to use and handle, pleasing to the eye and despite its gentle appearance, packs a punch. In fact, it delivers the intensity you’d expect from brands like LELO and Doxy.

With eight different speeds and patterns, you can fully customise the toy to your preferences - start off slowly, though, as I very quickly realised. Going full hog too quickly might result in injury, though. But, don’t be put off by that thought. Like with most wand massagers, start off slow and then work your way through the eight available pulsations and intensities to build up to climax. It’s a great wand for newbies and experienced sex toy users, and the fact it’s waterproof and made of body-safe, medical grade silicone means it trumps the likes of Lovehoney’s Magic Wand in terms of design.

Unbound Ollie wand review

It’s large, yes, but not as big as the LELO Smart Wand 2. I’ve found it’s just the right size to do the job without desensitising the area you’re using it on. Beyond the clitoris, you can also use Unbound’s Ollie wand elsewhere on your body - in fact, it’s very effective when you have sore shoulders or feet from being stood all day or running around toddlers.

My only gripe is that the magnetic USB charging cable is a little fiddly and can fall off easily. But overall, Unbound’s Ollie certainly delivers a satisfying experience without breaking the bank.

How we tested the Unbound Ollie

  • Used primarily for masturbation

  • Introduced a couple of times into PIV

  • Both DH have used it for body massages

  • Tested in the shower, too

Like most wand massagers, their usefulness extends well beyond clitoral stimulation. In fact, I found the Unbound Ollie very helpful with soothing aches and pains after a long day chasing toddlers. Particularly on the shoulders!

But of course, aches and pains aren’t often the main reason behind purchasing such a device, and so I made sure to thoroughly test the Ollie wand’s performance during solo play, during PIV with DH and also in the shower. I made sure to assess every aspect of the wand massager - its design, ease of use, its performance as well as its durability. I also tested the eight different speeds and patterns available.

How easy is it to set-up the Unbound Ollie wand vibrator?

Unlike Lovehoney’s mains powered wand, the Unbound Ollie needs a full-charge before first use so you might need to wait a little time before you use it. With that in mind, plan accordingly. A full-charge for one hour will last one hour and it’s fully-waterproof, submersible in fact, up to three feet for thirty minutes.

The wand itself comes with a magnetic USB charging cable, so you’ll need to have your own plug head to hand, too.

How does the Unbound Ollie look?

It’s actually one of the least intimidating sex toys I’ve tested, and I personally love the colour. Although it’s worth adding that it’s only available in one colour, unlike other toys.

As I’ve said, it’s large but not as big as other wand vibrators available. The control buttons are on the front, just above the magnetic charging point and as they’re stuck out, they’re relatively easy to find during use.

What is the Unbound Ollie wand vibrator like to use?

During testing, I’ve found the Unbound Ollie wand vibrator a delight to use. Its sleek, ergonomic design is easy to handle and the silicone is soft to touch. In fact, it’s rather soft and velvety to touch.

Unlike the LELO Smart Wand, the Unbound Ollie isn’t massive and I found it doesn’t get in the way during PIV as much as some other toys I’ve tried. Thanks to its intuitive control buttons, adjusting the speeds and patterns is very easy during use. As with all toys, I’d advise using a water-based lubricant to increase the sensations. Since it’s waterproof, you don’t have to worry about using too much - and I’ve found the more you use, the better in general.

When not in use, I have found the magnetic charging cable a little fiddly than others. Although, this is a universal charging cable that can be used on most, if not all, Unbound toys. So, in that respect, it’s handy having just the one cable for several toys so you don’t have drawers filled with wires.

Who does the Unbound Ollie wand suit best?

If you get off with clitoral stimulation, this is certainly a must for your collection. Its non intimidating design makes it a good choice for beginners and couples seeking to introduce toys to the bedroom, but the power it packs also means it’s a great choice for more experienced sex toy users.

The Unbound Ollie wand: how easy is it to clean?

Very, actually. Since it’s waterproof and fully submersible, cleaning it is a breeze with some soap and warm water. Although, it’s worth noting that you’ll need to use your own sex toy storage to keep it safe and secure between uses as Unbound doesn't supply a bag with the toy.
