On the Fawcettsoc site it says click on the slebs to see why they are a feminist. Under Bill Bailey's pic he has put

"Three women walk into a pub and say, `Hooray, we've colonised a male-dominated joke format'"

Why don't they do the Millicent one for adults??

I have a very old t-shirt from the 80's or may be 90's which says
'The future is female, and she's pissed off'. not sure about the former, but the latter is still true....

oooooooooooo. i've just found somewhere i might pick up a few bits from for the dds, including some books - and some rather fetching notecards that say stuff like 'tell me 'you throw like a girl' is a compliment', and 'please tell me 'the glass ceiling' is a fairy tale'...

Raksha, Milicent tendencies IS kind of fantastic - will make less sense over here (USA) but if that means I get to tell more people about Milicent Fawcett, that's fine by me...

not keen on 'this is what...' on babies, however keen i am to raise them that way

i also have an 8yo ds who told me he didn't want to get married and have kids because it was too much work and there was too much cooking. dd1 piped up 'but that's the woman's job...' she was in the dog house for a month - dh cooks in this house, and does the ironing, i had no idea that somewhere deep in her subconscious she had been got at by bleeding barbie.

I like it. I'd wear it. In fact, I might get one. I've seen that t-shirt on men (can't remember who but some famous men).

sideline tangent: You can get "This is what a feminist looks like" on babygros. DH sent me an email with the link, being all cute and excited. (This defines DH when it comes to talking about the as-yet-unborn baby. He's basically a spaniel puppy about it. I'll let you know how much that damps down after some sleepless nights filled with wailing, poo, sick, etc!)

My immediate reaction was "OMG AWESOME" (because DH isn't the only spaniel-puppy-personality in this relationship) and of course I wanted to get one, thinking "then everyone will know that feminists are just PEOPLE and all thinking people are feminists!" etc. Plus, whether we have a boy or girl, we'll be raising them as feminist as we blardy well can....

THEN I thought: "is it right to attribute a political consciousness to a baby when it's basically just a projection of our beliefs?"
I mean in some ways it's no different to christening a baby, you're saying "I hope you share our values and are welcomed by our community" - but still, what do you think to feminist slogans on babygros? Cute? Appropriate? Too twee?

Also, feel free to tell me I'm overthinking this. Too hot to sleep much, I have plenty of dead time to over think in atm!

Mainly because I don't want people to come up to me and say 'oh, so feminists look overweight / drunk / scruffy (delete as appropriate) do they?!' Maybe I would wear it if looking particularly yummy mummy but when that might be, I don't know...

I have seen some guys wear this just for fun they say they are not feminist's they just think it looks pretty cool

I am loving the idea of the three women running the PTA cake stall wearing Fawcett Society T-shirts . That has totally made my year - please, please do it and put photos on your profile!! (even for ten minutes, just be sure to let me know when to look!)

and SGM, your 'I prefer my men...' T-shirt made me literally weep with laughter. I'm just not sure whether DH would let me wear it...
