I am raging and just need a huge rant - warning contains links to nasty crimes

About sentencing and crimes against women and men.

Just saw on the news this report some people have been jailed for 30 years for beating a man and throwing acid over him.

30 years

Immediately thought of this case where a woman was raped and doused with acid - 16 years and

this case where they gang raped and doused with caustic soda and received between 6 and 9 years.

6 and 9 fucking years.

I just get so ANGRY and this latest case just seems to reinforce that when terrible things are done to women the courts etc simply do not give a fuck.

Sorry that was a rant I had to get it off my chest. My personal bugbear. I get so worked up inside about this.

"Rogel McMorris who was sentenced to a total of nine years for two counts of rape and one of unlawful wounding had his sentence increased by five years. Jason Brew who was sentenced to six years for rape will serve a sentence of nine years. Hector Muaimba?s sentence of six years for rape will remain the same. "

Judge deemed that 6-9 years was appropriate sentence.

There was a huge outcry it was all over the papers.

Sentences increased to 14 years, 9 years and other stayed at 6 years.

I do not understand why they were not prosecuted for attempted murder.

Am impressed that people think that these sentences are appropriate.

The girl who was gang raped by 10 men and doused from head to toe in caustic soda had a mental age of 8.

Have not got time to research it (am meant to be preparing my own case for court) but I am fairly sure that in the 6-9 year sentence case the prosecution appealed it on the basis that it was unduly lenient and the Court of Appeal increased the sentences.

Will look it up today if I have the chance.

6&9 years is ridiculously low for a crime like that on a vulnerable person. What the hell was the judge thinking? This is definitely the outlier.

However, I think you are picking up on the other 2 cases and saying that the only difference between them is the gender of the victim. There are actually quite a lot of differences

One has already been pointed out- 30 yrs, and "life with a minimum of 16 years" are approx the same sentence. Furthermore, the 30 year sentence was for conspiracy to murder, not GBH and rape. Also, if you add on the 6 yrs given to the acid thrower to the 16yr minimum for the rapist, it's 22 years so time served will be approx the same.

Did any of these perps have previous? The reports dont say but that could have affected the sentencing.

What I really dont understand in the 16yr case with the tv presenter was why she didnt report it after he raped her. It seems the acid attack took place some days after, or am I reading it wrong.

I agree with you Isnt. It's a medieval crime and the distorted treatment of men and women is appalling.

The second case did get life though with a recommendation of 16, so with a sentence of 30 years what would be the time served, probably less than 30?

But on the whole I completely agree.

Is there ANYTHING we can do about this?

I remember at the time there was an outcry and people complained to the Attorney General and the sentences were put up to about 15 years from what I remember.

But the sheer obvious contrast between these sentences - it's abhorrent.

I cried on the tube too minipie.

I think it was that case that brought home to me the utter disgrace that is the sentencing for these sorts of crimes.

Oh my god. I remember reading about that caustic soda case and crying on the tube.

I can't believe they only got 6 to 9 years.

God I hadn't even thought of that.

You're right, women's lives are treated as so much less valuable than men's. The horror they go through, is apparantly less horrible than the horror of men.
