Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

FWR is now an upside down world!

I started a thread about a new women's campaign group.

This campaign has been spoken and written about in the MSM and elsewhere.

But MNHQ have hidden the thread about it Confused

Meanwhile others threads that are challenged by posters as to whether they are genuine, stay untouched.

So is FWR now hostile to campaigns fighting to stop violence against women?

Was that your 'Fallen Women' thread? It is showing for me now.

Thanks - I was totally taken aback by it being hidden, and was ready to start a conspiracy thread about MNHQ's AI bot being out of control!

Prefer to think it was a bot that hid it, rather than a human being.

Sad

Yes, I think it was auto-hidden as it happened so fast. I clicked on the brand new, shiny thread, and it was gone. I really ought to go and read it now!

As an aside, we are having some awful visitors to the forum recently. One was definitely setting up screenshots IMO.

I think that was partly why I said Alice in Wonderland.

Some days you come on FWR and just think how much longer can it survive.

And then when MNHQ seems to be part of this upside down world ....

it’s survived tougher times - especially pre the Forstater appeal which protects GC views as WORIADS, there was real pressure from transactivists to totally gag us. It’s to MNHQ’s credit that they didn’t let that happen.

Well in a way that was better.

Now quite often none of it makes sense.

Just a few threads dominated by obsessions. Or do I mean obsessives?

Apart from the what MNHQ is, or is not doing.

Obsessive are nothing new, or posters who don’t make sense.

I suspect it was auto hid because the phrase fallen women can have a different meaning.

I admit when I first read the reference in this thread I was a little taken aback at such an old fashioned expression being used. Of course 10 seconds later I realised it was about a different matter entirely.

You'd have to be a Victorian to think that!

Cant imagine some incel programmed AI registering that.

But maybe.

That's sort of what I mean. The admin decisions seem to be part of some totally other way of thinking - but that might be my misremembering how it used to be.

Then I'm a Victorian as well because that's where my mind went when I first read the title. Don't forget there are posters who are old enough for this expression to be, if not common parlance, easily recognisable due to books and articles read, plus TV shows watched, costume dramas have been a stable diet of UK telly for many decades.

It was my first thought too. Perhaps all you have to be is a reader of British literature set more than 50 years ago?

It was also a phrase used in real life for some older members of the forum.

Going back to the point of the post, this is well overdue and good news that someone is bringing attention to it.

TeenToTwenties · Yesterday 08:20

I must be Victorian too, as that is where my mind went.

Given that AIs are trained on the Internet including, presumably , Wikipedia and dictionaries, the Victorian pejorative meaning is one they would ‘understand’.

It’s a shame this interferes with the all too literal meaning of the documentaries. Sad Thanks for posting that link.

It would be interesting to know exactly why the thread was hidden - have you asked MNHQ? As I’m sure you know, they won’t have read this one unless it’s been reported. My guess is that it was the link - ‘killed women’ and ‘fallen women’ superficially could be something very sinister rather than the opposite. I’m glad there are filters against suspicious content which can hide threads quickly prior to further moderation - a bit more patience (how many mods do we suppose there are on a Friday evening?) is probably all that’s needed here.

fallen woman

1. a woman who has lost her good reputation by having sex with someone before…

Orangerowanberries · Yesterday 08:30

On the other hand an active thread on AIBU about whether it was unreasonable for men to now be put on men’s wards (10% thought so) got moved to ‘News’ by MN killing the thread…

IwantToRetire · Yesterday 17:31

Various responses.

No I dont know, and quite honestly have so lost interest in what seems to be an endless series of non user friendly decisions, haven't bothered to chase up.

As to all those who cant distinguish between how people used to talk and how they currently talk it does make you wonder how they operate in the real world.

But even more depressing for the women (and if you actually read about) who are struggling with yet another example of men's violence against women.

Even if the expression triggered some antique usage, surely your mind would think how is it being using in the here and now.

Astonishing.

For anyone who actually cares about other women than linguistic issues please read about this new campaign, and share or support. Or both even.

Just to add, and I am an oldie though not well educated, feminist campaigns have a long tradition of using phrases that in the past were meant to stigmatise women to highlight a contemporary feminist issue.

Although lets face it, with what is said to be current education in the UK, doubt any young person has ever hear of the phrase fallen women, or what its supposed connotations are!

Let's face it even calling the Women's Liberation Movement was a reclaiming of the word Woman which was used by men in a derogatory way. ie a not acceptable female who of course would be a lady.

Another Victorian here I’m afraid, I have clearly read too many historical novels 😳. But thank you for the thread Retire, I’m glad it made it out of bot-imposed segregation.

And yes, we’ve had one helluva lot of drive by stick around and harangue us until the thread is wrecked intruders recently. It’s [insert your favourite expletive here] annoying.
