Cambridge college labels lavatories as ‘cubicles’ and ‘cubicles/urinals’

The SC clarified that services provided for a specific sex are reserved for that sex. Places labelling toilets as "cubicles" and "Cubicles/urinals" are clearly trying to avoid defining the service as single sex.

However, the SC also stated that only providing mixed-sex services could be discrimination against people unable to access a mixed-sex service.

It will clearly take another court case to get organisations to follow the law - not to mention treat women with dignity and safeguarding.

You see this in pubs, too, though, don't you? Not that that makes it OK. Probably lots of places. And they are all breaking the law?

A service provider may be breaking the law if they treat women less advantageously than men. That could be the case here because women are unlikely to want to use provision that contains urinals, whereas men can use either option.

Employers MUST provide unisex or single sex toilets as defined in the H&S regs, so the college is breaking the law if these toilets are for staff.

Of course, the men get to be able to use 100% of the facilities, women 50%.
Because anyone thinking men won't barge into both spaces is giving men way too much latitude.
No label on the doors = free for all.
Yet again the loudest voices are dictating policy.
Imagine a dean saying to the unhappy masses, if you don't like us complying with the law regarding female spaces, you're welcome to leave this university and find your unisex spaces elsewhere.

if you have visual problems and there's no clear man/woman sign, how will that work?

I’ve been to kings many times.

they aren’t staff toilets.

and they are a bugger to find anyway so anyone visually impaired will have to do what everyone else does which is ask.

What about if you’re not able to read and understand English enough to work out what the signs mean?

What if women start using she-wees to use the urinals? Maybe the men will object to women being in there.

Able-bodied people 'queuing up' to use the accessible toilets? What about the disabled people for whom it's not a preference, they actually need them the adaptations that make them accessible?

The configuration men's/women's/accessible works adequately when everybody respects who the spaces are designated for.

When men stop respecting women's spaces, or refuse to use the spaces designated for men, there's a knock-on detrimental effect for people who need accessible toilets, whether it's able-bodied trans-IDing men using them because they 'prefer' them to the men's, or as in this case women who no longer have women-only facilities.

Well clearly everyone should use the urinals plus cubicles if you want anything to change

I had to give a wry smile when a toilet facility at an educational organisation went through various identity crises. In order:

Ladies toilet
Gender neutral toilet with a wierd half woman/man figure sign
Gender neutral toilet with a sticker saying ‘ladies toilet’ slapped over the above sign.

The toilets have had more identity changes than the students!

But why oh why…

It's like you're busting to go, then you get distracted by so many labels, and the need disappears, lol.

I don't thnk any women would be at all comfortable using a facility with urinals in it ( and therefore men in it); and they shoud not have to. The college needs to comply with the law and show some respect for the dignity of its female students and staff.

Try teaching their idiot students some critical thinking skills as well.

Kings was always the mad Liberal college even back in the 90s when I was a student at C. So I too was not surprised to see my guess prior to clicking on the link was correct.
