Teenage boy receives referral order after stabbing girl who rejected him

This happened locally to me. A 14 year old girl turned down the advances of a teenage boy who then used fake social media accounts to harass her. When she refused to go out with him, he followed her into a shop and stabbed her repeatedly. He also stabbed the shop owner who tried to intervene.

What did this little pillar of the community get as a punishment, a restraining order and a 12 month referral order. I’m so bloody angry that the safety of women and girls is seen as unimportant and the sentences given to offenders are so pathetic.

The victim impact statement is heartbreaking.

Sorry about the DM link, it’s in my local paper but behind a paywall https://www.dailymail.com/news/article-16150735/Moment-schoolboy-follows-girl-repeatedly-stabs.html

Moment schoolboy follows girl and stabs her in shop

The 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, launched the attack in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, on the morning of March 15 after she refused to go on a date with him.

Perhaps Idiot Ian QC needs to go back to dealing with fish and maritime crime. Goodness only knows, the little blighters in my BiOrb could do with some discipline.

I’ve completed the form as well but don’t hold out much hope of things improving. There needs to be actual action about VAWG rather than the lip service that is currently paid by all parties.

You can bet your life if it were women going around stabbing, assaulting and murdering men at the same rate it happens to us, there would be bloody uproar.

Our criminal justice system is totally broken, from the police, to the CPS, to the courts and finally to the judges making decisions.
It is a totally depressing situation.

In this case, it seems the police did what they should have done. I suppose there's room to ask why the charges didn't include attempted murder etc, but my understanding is that it's often a choice of going for what charges are more likely to stick.

Although there's not much info on this one, I would guess that the sentencing guidelines have quite an important role in the sentence. Or lack thereof.

Thank you- I have just done this. A small action to signal to the government that an epidemic of misogynistic violence is going unaddressed. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd intended to kill her.

I've just filled the form in too. What message does this send to other young men?

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 23/09/2026 10:35

I spoke to one dad about his ds’s behaviour towards her and he immediately started defending his ds saying my dd deserved to be called a slag because she had (politely) told him she didn’t want to go out with him and his feelings were hurt.

😲😲😲 Fucking hell!! The apple didn't fall far from the tree did it! I have a young DD and with the way things are going I am bloody worried.

Did mum say anything or I'm guessing is conditioned enough not to rock the misogynistic prick cart and would rather defend her little prince.

I am absolutely fed up of numerous people in charge bleating on about vawg when they should be emphasising the M because we all know who does it and it does no one any service if you can't name it! And then, not only do they not name it, when it happens in real life they do fuck all!

He nearly fucking killed her and would have done if not for the shop keeper. Slap on the wrist!!

Unless MVAWG is treated with the seriousness it deserves and every perpetrator gets the fucking rule book thrown at them, there will be no deterrent. Just empty words Sad

It’s fair enough for shop lifting or joy riding or graffiti, but is this boy not up to his neck in criminality having stuck a knife into someone over and over? How much worse does it get?

In this previous case which @ArabellaScott quoted from this was a three against one violent attack. This judge threw out the case because by the time 3 years had passed the defendants faced being tried without anonymity and faced harsher sentences for their crime. He specifically says that they could have pleased guilty and been given a referral order (just what happened in this stabbing case). Coupled with his surprise that a violent offender was in custody for three months as this was not the norm I assume that those three violent individuals are now free, no record, no punishment (as were not on remand at the time). This judge - at kindest - is a big hearted optimist. At worst he is not considering victims of crime.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 23/09/2026 10:29

Reading this I can't help thinking so much of this behaviour is reinforced by social media, the www and it is ramping up far faster than anyone is able to counter it. There's no excuse for this, or for any male behaviour that believes women are just on earth to make up the numbers! We need to start really calling out misogynistic behaviours full stop and neurodiversity, religion, other culture is not, and should never be, an excuse.

I have done it too but it says only certain types of crimes can be considered so I’m hoping this is one of them. I felt shocked when I saw the (lack of) sentence too. He should be locked up both for this girl’s safety and peace of mind but also for the safety of all girls. Because sadly, chances are, if he hates girls this much at 14 he’ll only do worse in the future.

No you can't tar all autistic and ADHD boys with the same brush, nor are 90% of "lone wolf" attackers autistic and/or ADHD so please take your abilist bs elsewhere.
Social media corrupts all children including neurotypical children

I didn't say it's ALL AuDHD boys - mine haven't carried out any such attacks but equally I watch internet use like a hawk and address the risks head on. I was careless about how I expressed it but the truth is there IS a growing issue with these young men (and women to a lesser degree). Instead of sticking our heads in the sand it would be better to identify these kids as extra vulnerable to online influence / grooming / radicalisation without good parenting, support services and monitoring internet use. Recognising that pattern is not 'ableist bs' it is recognising risk.

I DID express it clumsily, I own that. It was an angry, off the cuff comment.

Different case, but here is the same judge explaining rationale behind children's sentencing.

'“The procedural and consequential difference between a youth and adult court is marked for obvious reasons because the presumption within the youth court process is to draw a defendant out of the criminal justice system by one means or another.”'

Can we just go ahead and assume that he is your standard 'autistic / AuDHD teenage boy who is terminally online without anyone supervising his internet use'? Because so many of our 'lone wolf' attackers for multiple reasons fit that profile. The internet is the worst thing that ever happened to these kids.

The other 10% are gang related, so less lone wolf.

'Sentencing the boy, Judge Ian Lawrie told the court the stabbing was a "very troubling event" but he did not take the view that the offender was a "danger".
He said: "He's still young. And he is capable of learning."
The judge told the court he was "surprised" the boy had spent three months in custody as "while the offences are serious", it was "inconsistent" with the usual process for youth cases.'

from the BBC link.

A troubling event! Just something that happened. Nobody planned it or caused it. Just one of those things. Shrug.

Shocking.

While the incident itself is of course horrific what I find more worrying is the leniency of the sentence and the judges comments.

I assume this was to do with the age of the perp and guidelines. There may be arguments for altered sentencing approaches for children and young people, but surely that needs to involve intensive intervention?

That link is eye opening. The judge was fucking 'surprised' the stabbing little bastard was in prison for 3 months for... being a stabbing little bastard.

And this is why this country is fucked.

If you wish to appeal, you just need to put something in the name box - if you write 'withheld' or 'anonymous' that will work.

I've just seen another thread which paints an even more serious picture of the online environment for youngsters than I'd understood.

The article in that OP is about Australia, but the trend exists in the UK too, alas.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/feminism/5581057-new-international-online-threat-to-young-girls-australian-federal-police-speak

I hope a poster on that thread won't mind if I C&P her account of what was said by the Australian police:

That it is a gaming culture kind of thing where teen boys and young men (the ages she gives are around 17 I think) in online groups identify "hunt stalk and draw in" young girls from a range of online platforms and begin grooming her, then intimidating, exploiting and controlling her, and forcing her into acts of violence against themselves, siblings, others, pets etc. She says they are decentralised loosely affiliated networks, in Australia and off-shore, groups glorifying sadistic online exploitation, cyber attacks and violence. They are based on nilism, sadism, nazism and satanism. Most of their victims pre-teen or teenage girls. She describes it as a new and disturbing front in gender-based violence. 59 potential offenders identified in Aus, three arrests made, and some also overseas. Perpetrators are predominantly white middle class.

Even if this wasn't a direct factor in the actions of the boy who stabbed the 14-year-old girl, this is the sea in which teens are now swimming.
