Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Some clarity in how the trans movement became so embedded, so preeminent

Despite being called a conspiracist here by a TRA, actually I work very hard to continually interrogate my thought processes, and not fall into easy generalisations etc.
So, I was reading Róisín Michaux and her fascinating conversation with someone high up in HIV funding, and the push in the last 20 years is to get everyone in the tent on retrovirals, meaning reaching out to not just gays and addicts, but sex workers (incl trans) and critically, the "third genders" who have migrated to the West in large numbers to end up as sex workers. And the decision was made to go for maximum anti stigmatization, which means zero messaging on personal behaviour, and critically deciding to accept these men as women. Don't blame them, get more onside.
Guess who has to move aside, and accept the messaging on health grounds that biological men can be women? Made even worse by the increase in HIV in European women who are the partners of men who use the services of these "third genders".
Then yesterday I read the amazing post from Hellofabore about how for 30 years plus, the sports authorities including IOC and FIFA decided to make total inclusion the policy, phasing out gender testing, primarily to allow the male DSDs from Africa mainly to be included, as they were IDd as female at birth, and the cruelty to deny they're still female is wrong.
Again, the overwhelming need is to not stigmatize these individuals. Of course a huge group (we know who) are stigmatized for objecting to losing sports opportunities.
And then back to Róisín Michaux again, her illuminating the revolution in psychiatric medicine, where men back in the day were diagnosed with transvestic disorder, a pure paraphylia, again to stop judging and be more inclusive, underwent massive de-stigmatisation and de-pathologisation, from paraphylia, to dysphoria, now to common all garden "sexual health category".
Three enormous areas where the drive to include men, to destigmatise their plight, to bring them in from the cold, couldn't happen in a vacuum. Society organised along sex-based lines couldn't be simply recategorised, no, a large population group (51% XX) was expected to move over, make their definition porous, extend the collective hand of kindness and inclusion, to this hardcore of men who were deemed most at risk, and needing most help.
At the same time, this blurring of definitions and imposed inclusivity spread from sport and medicine to law and education, the most motivated men worked hard to get the Gender Recognition Act on the statute book, and via Stonewall culture, "social training" and the "trans child" escalated as concepts and then real world consequences as noone in polite society other than a very brave few said anything.
So now we have developing nations male DSDs and "third genders", socially incorporated transvestites/transsexuals, and queer culture first world transgenders in the mix, a political culture in the West frozen into aquiescence and policy drift, and the only light of realism and sanity, an army of women fighting back, with amazing results re SC ruling, banishing self ID into the long grass, and medical and sports bodies tacking back to sanity.
But reading the almost scary analogousness of how health brought in trans and third genders at the expense of women, sport brought in male DSDs at the expense of women, psychiatry brought in transvestites from the cold at the expense of women, you can then see how the most motivated men got the Gender Recognition Act on the statute book to turbo charge the social trans/trans child revolution.
For me, I can now see the past as it travels into the future.

Agree @MarcTheGenderSkeptic

The madness for me is that we hear that such a small percentage of people are trans identified- yet they seem to be dominating modern life.

‘Queer’ is also ‘reclaimed’ by the younger generation. What was once a slur is now trendy. Trends pass. I do wonder if these people heavily invested in the trans movement, often women defending trans rights above their own rights - will be surprised if times change and their open minded left wing views desire to be inclusive at all costs see them be discriminated against themselves in the future. I also wonder if they have actually researched Queer Theory and its
ultimate aims and objectives.

I also sense many are middle class well educated people searching for their own cause /revolution.

WPATH is also covered at length by Mia Hughes. Let’s all be honest here, big pharma creating long term customers has to a driver in much of the trans uptick. Social media and p**n making young girls want to opt out of woman hood.

One thing that strikes me is the institutions and academia now overrun by activists seem to value inclusivity over productivity. The protected status of many people with modern labels must make the modern workplace impossible to navigate for those of us who went to work to do the work not tell everyone why our various labels mean we can only do certain things.

I was having a fascinating conversation with someone who had been a steward on the Oriana back in the 60's - see

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Oriana_(1959)

Now for those who are not aware being a steward in the Merchant Navy was a common occupation for Gay men and he described one colleague who would say goodbye to his wife and family then change into a dress when off duty and remain that way until they returned to Southampton. I understand that a steward on the Canberra was knocked out by a Marine during the Falklands campaign after he made a pass at them while in womans clothing and make up.

So its nothing new..........

OK in the 80's & 90's I was involved in 'Environmental Campaigning' and there was a 'feminist' group with some rather unclear financing who had a habit of causing chaos wherever they went - and that was a description from a woman campaigner not me.

Now in much the same way the Trans Rights movement seems - not that I am active any longer to be causing problems in the Scottish National Party, Green Party, 'Progressive Politics' etc. At the expense of sounding like a conspiracy theorist its all very convenient for someone.

The issue is not so much that it didn't exist, but societal guardrails were secure. Sure, that might have meant transvestites were assaulted in dark alleys, but it also meant AGPs weren't allowed anywhere near women's schools etc.
Sure, gender non conforming took time to be socially acceptable, but very few in that community or ones that became famous and outré/outrageous ever considered themselves women or tried to convince us they were.
Now, alongside the myth that humanity has always had a hardcore contingent of trans (yep, <all> those girls in society who thought they were boys), new myths keep springing up.
That GC is Western Karens tone policing African women.
And my favourite, that in the recent past we were pretty much all trans accepting, men and women saw nothing unusual, only the bio essentialist GC movement in the last 10-15 years has created the harsh regime we now live in.
So, cross dressers, have been around as long as AGPs have, but absolute trans numbers especially in girls, no.
GC is a racist imperialist exercise, no.
Trans was fully integrated in society when Dick Emery and Little Britain was popular, no.

There have been many threads about this, and in and ideal world FWR would have some indexing system that would allow you and others to read through them.

Yes it goes back years.

eg when queer politics got women's studies kicked of University's syllabuses and had them replaced with Gender Studies (and the poison from this back in the 1970/80s then fed into news papers and other media as the graduates of this queering got top jobs)

The The Yogyakarta Principles 2006

The GRA 2004

The EA that tinkered with Sex as a protected characteristic by allowing "legal women" to impinge on the rights of biological women.

And many more that I am sure others can fill you in on.

But basically what we are seeing now is the effective campaigning to undermine the sex is a biological reality that we all lived by has grown into this international campaign against women's sex based rights.

And in whose interest it was that sex was said not to be fixed.

Maybe something to do with the fact the women as a sex class are oppressed by men as a sex class. ie why Women's Liberation happened.

If men can say sex is not "real" then how can they be accused of discriminating against the sex class of women.

@MarcTheGenderSkeptic there are times when I can see the younger generation thinking they are really being kind by inclusion etc/ whole self to work/no judgement etc etc however society is not a better place for it. Reality and truth might not be easy to swallow but at some point reality and truth matter.

Interesting to hear your friend’s take on this.

My heart sank at yesterday’s Lib Dem motion yet even my own DD would define it as positive and right for trans people ignoring the blatant fact that she is being discriminated against.

Language is very powerful and manipulation has happened by the truckload with these men larping as women being all soft spoken whilst stealing positions of power from actual women. Very bizarre times to be a woman.

I can't absolutely speak for him, but I know he's very challenged by all this, and the CoE is as captured as any other woke organisation, more in some ways.
What's fascinating with the whole area of language change on trans, it was never allowed to happen with race etc.
When white Rachel Dolezal in 2010+ "came out" as "self IDd" black, she was lambasted by her black/African American colleagues and friends, then her white ones
Her professional and personal life so imploded, she went from a high flying academic career to flipping burgers.
The black community as one put their hand up...and the white community followed.
Look at Sen. Elizabeth Warren, claiming she was part-Cherokee. Shown to be fake, noone defended her, indeed she's arguably been permanently weakened by the affair, critically no elites came out to defend her.
What these show is that it <is> possible to speak the truth against those deluded or mischievous in their aim to warp categories and concepts, especially involving race and indigenous communities.
But unfortunately, not when it comes to women.

@MarcTheGenderSkeptic it is worth looking at the work of Mia Hughes and Stella O’Malley. They have recently embarked on a series of essays by Mia and a podcast/rebrand looking at repathologising trans as a part of the DSM. Effectively saying it should be treated as a metal illness. Mia’s first essay puts anorexia in place of a gender questioning/trans person and looks at the fact we would not agree with an anorexic that they were in fact fat and that they must have affirming care in the use of weightloss injections etc. I think the analogy works. No doubt TRAs would disagree. https://genspect.org/get-ready-for-repath/

The history of how we got here is interesting and I do think much of what has been able to happen has been reinforced under the ‘be kind’ umbrella. Which is anything but kind.

The capture of society is quite the thing as seen at the Lib Dem conference yesterday with the motion to effectively tell women we are second rate citizens and trans trumps our rights. I wish more men were equally vocal that they do not want women pretending to be men in men’s places. Both men and women have the right to single sex spaces.

People may say why does this bother you. For me it is simple and something I took from Sall Grover over in Australia. Truth. “ If you think women have p**nises, I won’t believe a single word you say about anything else. Because if you will lie about something so obvious I will assume you lie about everything’

I have a close friend who's a semi retired CoE reverend, and writes a blog.
He's discussed the very concept of modern kindness, that when it's seperated from any truth or principle, what you might call no moral compass, it becomes hugely damaging, a weapon in the madness of crowds.
Look at the changes in sport, the IOC, FIFA etc formally ended gender testing three decades ago, in big part because they deemed it was "unkind" to male DSDs in developing countries to be outed as "sex imposters", and then doubled down by the most preposterous associated requirements on testosterone, only to go the whole kindness enchilada in 2015 by inviting any TIM athlete into the women's event.
At the heart of all this was a need for elite organisations to be <seen to be> kind after a century plus of likely dealing high handedly with non Western nations.
But extreme kindness to African DSD males and Western TIMs comes at the penalty of extreme unkindness to the whole female class in sport.

Ideas tend to take root in fertile soil - sorry, that sounds unintentionally gnomic! - and because sexism has never gone away, an ideology that blew up the very definition of the word 'woman' was of great service to the backlash against the moderate gains that women made in the late 80s/90s.

As IWTR said
If men can say sex is not "real" then how can they be accused of discriminating against the sex class of women.

It has become not just acceptable, but brave and progressive and freedom-fighting and rights-acitivisming and the right-side-of- historying to be sexist, misogynistic, aggressive, even violent towards women if it's under the banner of transgenderism.

I don't think such irrational and unscientific dogma would have become so embedded and so pre-eminent if it wasn't a new and fashionable way of being anti-women.

It's amazing just how damaging trans ideology is, as much on language as anything.
Once you destroy the language, you destroy concepts. You destroy commonly accepted tenets.
Society cannot exist when the very glue itself is removed.
So, what did I read from a TRA on here, that trans have a total right to their gender identity being private.
First port of call, those TIMs on lesbian dating sites. Their sex is immaterial (really, a male body in what should be an exclusively female bodies place?).
Not only do the TIMs want the sex-basis of ordering society to be ignored, they want their gender to be their own decision, and private. Not up for discussion.
It's up to the woman (those pesky female bodies) to perform the mental cartwheels to fit in.
Blimey, it was bad enough when men expected women to do all the cleaning, now TIMs want them to do all the gender-accommodating, and that's even when the TIMs feel they don't need to expound on their gender choices, lol.
Trans, the Japanese knotweed of modern society.

Um, you realise trans people include natal females as in 'trans men' right? Or does that 'blow up' your whole 'devious man' driven narrative to acknowledge them?

And yes, anyone who doesn't recognise that the sexes share behaviours that implicates social categories is a daft conspiracist.

This is from the EHIA Assessment for Children and Young People’s Gender Service: Service Specification for the National Referral Support Service.

It usefully lists some of the possible reasons for the increase in girls wanting to 'transition' in just 8 years -
since 2011 ...the number of natal females is higher than the number of natal males being referred. Prior to that the split in the caseload was roughly even between natal girls and natal boys, but by 2019 the split had changed so that 76% per cent of referrals were natal females.
....
..girls who, as recent statistics showed, were now much more likely to seek treatment from gender dysphoria services than boys. NHS England was encouraged to investigate and publicise the degree to which possible causations such as internalised homophobia, exposure to social media, trauma, bullying, difficulties in navigating bodily changes at puberty, experiencing sexual objectification, familial and social situations and social contagion had played a part in this trend”.

Exactly what the Tavistock saw, yet decided to railroad trans diagnoses thru, rather than delve further into these deeper complexities.
I guess that was both too difficult, it was much easier to tick a handful of boxes, and the euphoria of clinicians in bestowing these diagnoses, and their social status enhanced, made it all so much easier to label these teens as trans.

Wow. Imagine appearing on a parenting site trumpeting arguments for girls undergoing an uncomfortable puberty needing earlier "clinical interventions.

There's a reason why this (fairly useless) government have taken steps to ban schools from teaching children that gender identity is a fact and have located the welfare of children confused about their sex in statutory safeguarding guidance. Along with banning mixed sex changing, dormitories and sleeping.

Even they can recognise the immense harm that's been done to the young by extreme transactivistm and have belatedly put in place boundaries to limit their ability to gaslight and harm children.

Labour have been doing something worthwhile? I must have blinked and missed it, lol. They're keeping motivated queer/trans activists away from schools?
Yet they're still likely to bring the conversions ban law to statute.

Yes indeed, sure, we could call ROGD something else, but I'm looking back at pre-history, at the Dutch Protocol, and even though they found boys who were so troubled that they thought they were girls, they hardly found any girls who thought they were boys.
And while the boys with these problems were small in number, but reasonably hardcore and somewhat increasing over time, the female contingent remained vanishingly small.
Until the fallout of the anorexia surge became apparent, the explosion in autism and related ADHD diagnoses, and then the Great Awokening in 2014, the move to the online world, and the big spur, COVID lockdowns and the insularity of societies.
For Hannah Barnes to find that up to 90% of trans diagnosed teens at the Tavistock were autistic, damaged, abused, still in the closet re their gay identity, and then a TRA on here tells me the relevant thing <isn't that>, but is austerity effects on teen mental health funding, is as laughable as it is complacent.
Oh well, Wiki tells me ROGD is a phantom, so that's that.

We all know that ROGD is a recent phenomenon with no doubt complex reasons that will include social contagion, online influence and brutally, society's inability to keep certain adults who are a threat to the welfare of children, away from influencing them. Teenage girls have been the main victims of these adults - it's heartbreaking to see how vulnerable they are and the grim life long outcomes for so many of them.

Ah, the ol women don't know their own minds trope. Thanks for showcasing why your 'male POV' isn't respected in these parts.

More study required on increased trans man visibility that might help:

Sociocultural Acceptance: Masculine behavior or gender nonconformity in natal females (such as "tomboys") has historically faced less severe social sanction or stigma than feminine behavior in natal males. This lower barrier allows trans men and transmasculine individuals to feel safer coming out and seeking clinical care at younger ages. [1, 2, 3]
Transmisogyny and Stigma: Intense social stigma and hostility directed against trans women (assigned male at birth) often delay their transition process. Studies tracking individuals across their entire lifespans show that while transmasculine individuals predominantly present during adolescence, individuals assigned male at birth "catch up" in adulthood, leading to a more balanced 1:1 ratio overall across a lifetime. [1, 2, 3]
Pubertal Timing and Distress: Assigned females typically begin physical pubertal changes earlier than assigned males, which can intensify acute body distress and prompt earlier requests for clinical intervention during the teenage years. [1]

Of course ROGD exists. Both in teenagers (not just girls) and in recently convicted rapists.

I mean people have described their experiences of it, particularly detransitioners. It’s just like autogynephilia. People are desperate for that to not exist either, but it’s pretty hard to say it doesn’t when prominent trans activists admit they have it.

And TRAs don’t want it to exist because the existence of ROGD, detransitioners and autogynephiles debunks the idea that one’s gender identity is innate and unwavering. And if it’s not innate and unwavering then it calls into question why children are being sterilised because of it. So people trot out nonsense in laughable attempts to “debunk” it all because otherwise they know they look like monsters.

Sure, there were some boys. But next to no girls.
Check the Dutch Protocol, way more boys than girls.
You can throw any number of genderwang studies talking fake concepts like "transmisogyny" until the cows come home, and you'll convince no rational person.
Your "girls know their own minds" while your side has created the social mania and ROGD environment to create a generation of girls demanding double mastectomies ought to make you feel real shame.

@MarcTheGenderSkeptic
Do you know the dates of the public health decisions? and the earliest knowing inclusion of DSD males in females sports?
I am wondering if they pre-date the 1973 TV documentary linked above. For this to have got onto TV means the trans 'movement' was already fairly well established as a thing, so it must have grown in the 1960s at the latest. How much earlier is there evidence for?

I suspect the causes are like streams coming down a mountain valley: dozens of separate contributory sources all joining to make the TRA river.

I don't, sorry.
It's total news to me gender testing was downgraded so long ago.
And as we know, if there's no policing, there are gonna be those who abuse the system.
Compounded by ostensibly intelligent people in power deciding to not only not test for gender, but then open the gender class of women to performative males.
Anyone not expecting a terrible outcome must have been very naive indeed.

Please don't patronize me. Girls transitioning to boys, indeed girls believing they are the wrong sex, was unheard of back in the day.

Of course. I just watched Elliot Page in Ancient Greece run like no man I know.
Why are you mentioning TMs?
I know one thing about them, there were vanishingly few girls who thought they were boys including in the Dutch Protocol studies. Yet a few decades later, girls transitioning are statistically the largest group.

Clinical profiles and care of transgender children and adolescents who receive specialized consultations: do individuals who are assigned female at birth differ? - PMC

Clinical data on transgender children and adolescents are scarce, and sample sizes often do not allow for comparisons according to sex assigned at birth. Besides, most gender identity clinics have pointed to a recent switch in favor of an increase ...
