Thoughts on this academic paper about JKR?

That's ok, things get lost in translation.
Ask most TRAs who they hate the most, and those three will come up most of the time.
Hence my slightly clunky allegory.

There are plenty of his books on Internet Archive.

They are sometimes unintentionally funny. Often patronising and pompous, sometimes racist, and absolutely always utterly and totally self absorbed.

You've put your finger on a very relevant point.
In a secular/atheist age, we still need our gods and devils.
JKR makes a very convenient devil. Alongside Trump and Musk, she completes the Unholy Trinity.
And the mass hysteria over her and trans activism generally, the rapid horizontal radicalisation of those lacking critical thinking skills is a society-wide version of The Crucible.

u partner wasn’t allowed to write a masters dissertation on genuinely serious issues about the nhs due to ethics yet this absolute shit show was allowed??? Good god. What has the world come to?

“Outed” - but you can’t hide your sex, everyone knows. For a start, they usually tell you in the first 30 seconds of meeting them. And if they don’t mention it (rare) my eyeballs, nose, ears and emplyment tribunal help me figure it out.

Had a tangential association with Johnny Depp in that he was cast in a film based on her franchise, but was then recast.

Huh. I wrote a nice email to the author who provides an email address, inviting her to Mumsnet to find out why JK has so much support on here. Wonder if she will visit?

I'm just starting, finally, to learn that 'academic' doesn't mean the same as it did a generation or so ago when I was a post-grad. The enshitification of undergraduate education that today's young people seem to feel forced to purchase at extremely poor value has produced a complete devaluing of the whole university sector at every level.

It's so hard for someone who was lucky enough to receive an adequate university education to really accept what the sector has become.

I agree with all my heart. Young people have been tricked into taking on huge debts while wasting several years for a piece of paper and some mediocre teaching, often in pointless subjects. Then comes a stream of trivial and badly researched papers, to continue the downward trend.

The one thing that raises my spirits a bit is discovering that word that sums it all up: enshitification. Thank you for adding that to my vocabulary!
