The court has meanwhile excluded the public from the questioning of the defendant.

Does anyone know if this protection of personal circumstances applies generally in German courts or if special rules have been applied because the defendant is trans

On Germany reddit they're saying it's 2 years - so I assume that's what it'll be if they don't misbehave in prison.
