I think we should go back to the old approach. Trans women use female spaces with the rampant entitlement we see today. You do your best to blend in and be pleasant, and you don’t ask and don’t tell. Simple.

So if you believe mixed sex toilets and spaces are unsafe for women, why do you think we should implement them? Just to protect TIM. In that case, no. Male on male violence is nothing to do with women. If some men feel unsafe in male spaces, that’s on men to solve.

And of course the eternal question - given that lots of men face risks from other men in various ways, why is it only the ones who claim to be women that anyone is suggesting have to get a pass to hide in the ladies bogs? Are the others not as important or something?

It's so, so frustrating because in practice the question is completely irrelevant.

Sex can be objectively quantified, but identity can't, so the only question worth asking is whether toilets should be single sex or mixed sex. If you have decided that they should be mixed sex, you then need to ask how that impacts safety, for all the reasons detailed at length on this board by keeptoiletssafe.

It wouldn't be a problem for me - it would be for some of the more vocal 'GC' voices who have turned it into a money-making venture. (I don't actually believe they are GC in actual fact - I think they think they've found a grift to earn an easy crust from a captive audience. I think had it been financially necessary 15 years ago they'd be fully paid-up members of the no debate society.

Obviously not all men will be put off from committing a crime, but a busy space is still going to put most people off. If it didn’t we wouldn’t have street lighting and CCTV everywhere

I was specifically answering your question around why a trans woman could be unsafe in a single sex space and safe in a mixed sex space. I wasn’t even arguing for universal mixed sex spaces like the original commenter. I was just making the point that environment and people can change behaviour. Do I think mixed sex spaces are safety than single sex spaces for women? No. Do I think a mixed sex space is safer for trans women? Yes. Do I think we should force mixed sex spaces everywhere? No.
