The Proclaimers... another reason to love them

I'm trying to figure out how to get a hold of the new album from a real shop. Used to be you would go to the woolies in the nearest town but today it looks like I'd have to get the bus all the way into glasgow just to find a shop selling new CDs

I’ve had a day of life admin at home all day accompanied by the Proclaimers on Spotify. I’ve always loved them but there are so many songs I’d never heard! Charlie’s voice is just exquisite on the ballads.

It was great. I thought the arrangements flowed really well and he was having such a ball it was impossible not to enjoy it. 🐉nearest I can get to a Nessie.

In public life? In the arts, politics, media etc? Why are we talking about the Proclaimers then? Because they are unusual in being left-wing with a public profile and GC. There's a few others but not many.

There's not many left-wing women in public life who are GC either. That's why JKR gets so much flak. We are pack animals and it takes a lot of guts to break ranks and move away from the herd.

I've always swum against the tide but it's a character trait that hasn't served me well.

This popped up for me (algorithm 😁) it's wonderful - the Proclaimers singing Sunshine on Leith, in Leith with a crowd of 6000 all singing along. My mum was Scottish and loved the film, makes me think of her every time I hear it.

I agree. I can’t understand why anyone on the left would support a solipsistic, antisocial, misogynistic movement based on the ridiculous lie that humans can change sex.

It’s disappointing that so many supposedly leftwing groups are proving to be deeply misogynistic.

I was gutted by Billy Bragg’s betrayal of women. But I now have yet another reason for loving the Proclaimers ❤️❤️❤️

How have I never watched this. GG the coolest, funniest most badass person ever. Can Kirsty really be TWAW if that's the quality of her interrogation? Someone who really believes it would have better questions than that, surely?!

That video has reminded me of the programme, Womanhood, that Kirsty Wark was in with five other women a few years ago. Does anyone else remember it? I can't remember much more about it than my feeling of disappointment.

The Proclaimers were very much a band that happened to other people to my shame. Although I always enjoyed belting out 500 miles or one of their few other songs that got radio airplay where I lived. I'd got the impression, fuck knows from where, that they were all rockabilly music!? That wasn't to my taste and I was careful what cds i bought as i didn't have much money or a cd player. Thinking I ought to correct that I've had a look at their back catalogue 😯, so many records! I'm feeling a little overwhelmed.

I'm embarrassed to admit I went to see a Runrig gig (really enjoyed it too) and shelled out on one or two of their cds. Boy did I back the wrong horse there.

The best ones imo are Persevere, Restless Soul, or Sunshine on Leith.

In some ways Hit The Highway was my album of theirs as it came out when I was at uni and I listened to it a lot. And it is good, no mistake, but I think suffers a little due to the preponderance of breakup tunes. A middle aged divorced man of a record, on the whole. One who is still funny as hell on a drink, just don't mention his ex...

While I don't agree that Daniel Radcliffe and co. have to support JK Rowling and should feel they have to bend the knee because they were films about the book they wrote... I agree with them that they could not have bought into the aggression towards her.
