Marina Hyde backs J K Rowling for PM

Marina Hyde in the Guardian today is asked who she would choose for Prime Minister. Her answer (and an excellent idea all-round) is J K Rowling.

A nod, perhaps, to Hyde's opinion on current issues - and as far as I'm aware, she hasn't entered the debate previously.

And this in The Grauniad too!

I’ve always liked Marina Hyde, she’s always well informed, makes strong arguments and doesn’t play to the gallery. I can’t see that as pisstake of an answer. She’d be fully aware of what would happen once it was picked up, and it would be nice to see courage calling to courage as a result.

There’s certainly been a change in recent TRA discourse on X in recent weeks since the Harry Potter trailers started coming out, in line with the absurd arguments from the deleted post in this thread, of the ‘don’t watch, her money is killing us’ type stupidity. It’s flimsier and utterly baseless, but there’s more of a pattern - a bot campaign I’d wager.

I’ve always liked her but her comments on the Baillie Gifford debacle convinced me that she was probably one of the best commentators I have come across.

She was painfully insightful on the smug, self righteous, puritanical arrogance of activists who have no idea what they are destroying, and who are only interested in virtue signalling.

i’ll see if I can dig it out.

Whether intentional or not, I read that answer in conjunction with her response to the question about what qualities she values in a person:

Compassion, tolerance, wisdom, kindness, bravery, strength of character. And GSOH.

I totally agree. And Marina Hyde is right about the qualities that we should value most too. It's a highly entertaining article all round.

I can’t shake the feeling she’s taking the piss in that article. I have certainly not taken it as a sign of support for JKR, though I do suspect Hyde is a sex realist.

I'd vote for that. We could do with a woman of good sense, compassion and a sense of the ridiculous.

TPA doesn't half like to spout libellous nonsense. Maybe they need a nice hobby like orienteering. Get them out in the fresh air a bit.

There's an increasing hyperbole amongst transactivists in the face of the increased mainstream understanding that targeting the young has been catastrophic for the long term safety and wellbeing of children. Recently there've been numerous allegations made on threads about safeguarding where posters are accused of being predatory simply for raising concerns about this vulnerable group of children.
This is evidently escalating now to include accusing public figures of fictitious dreadful crimes.

Knowing all the wonderfully wise women that are on this section of Mumsnet, I do believe that most wouldn't report these type of comments, as unlike Reddit differences of opinion are allowed on here (in relation to gender ideology specifically). So I wonder at It being deleted. I mean, it was abhorrent but these comments serve to let those who don't comment see the emotional manipulation that TRA posters post.

Is it likely to have been a self-report? Post this sort of stuff then when people rightly call it out, self-report, get it deleted then it's plausible deniability? I wouldn't put any such tactics past these TRA posters tbh.

The post breached several of MN’s talk guidelines. I believe that allowing such comments to remain would lead to this place becoming a cesspit.

It must be horrible to genuinely believe that though, that this one person is spearheading an army that "ends lives".

You and I know it's utter nonsense, but it must feel very dark to believe that.

It's so wonderful when someone you admire impresses you a bit more. I like the way MH didn't explain or defend her answer. I can't imagine what would compel JKR to run for PM but I would definitely vote for her!

Doesn't it just. Helen Joyce was bob on when she talked about parents who transed their kids or supported transitioning having to face up to what they've done. Imagine seeing the long term impacts and knowing that you could have stopped it.
