On The Sad Passing of Dolly Parton

J.K. Rowling mourned Dolly Parton, then deadnamed a trans woman under the same post. Dolly’s fans did not hold back.
Rowling has spent years using her platform to harass and invalidate transgender people.

Dolly Parton spent decades making LGBTQ people feel loved.

After Dolly died, Rowling began praising her online, calling her Imagination Library “the best contribution to child literacy ever made by a celebrity.” She said they crossed paths once backstage at a talk show in the 90s, and she was “tongue-tied and starstruck.”

The replies quickly filled with the Dolly she left out.

In 2005, Dolly wrote and recorded “Travelin’ Thru” for Transamerica, a film centered on a transgender woman.
When North Carolina passed its anti-trans bathroom law, Dolly said she hoped everybody got the chance “to be who and what they are.”

When Tennessee was targeting trans people in 2023, Dolly said trans people could not help being trans any more than she could help being Dolly Parton.
“I know and love them all, and I do not judge.”

Rowling was still in the replies.

She answered British trans activist Dame Katy Denise by deadnaming her and saying she had seen her birth certificate.

When another user said she and Dolly had nothing in common, Rowling replied that “neither of us want Jolene to take our man.”

Dolly once put it this way: “We are all God’s children and how we are is who we are.”

Jokes on you , Dr Dame Katie Denise used to employ JKRowling as her PA , JKR often goes round to her caravan with a bottle of lambrini to reminisce about old times

PronounssheRa · Yesterday 16:04

Dame Katy Denise. That article is unintentionally hilarious.

Have they taken that paragraph out now, because ot made them look like clowns?

Autumnleaveandthegrass · Yesterday 16:07

It’s almost as if somebody can appreciate the achievements of someone without agreeing with all of their politics.

VieuxFort · Yesterday 16:08

Good for JKR 🙌

Castolaya · Yesterday 16:10

What a really lovely tribute from JKR. Dolly and JKR two legends for women in their lifetime.,

RufustheFactualReindeer · Yesterday 16:10

I know and love them all, I do not judge.

maybe you should take a leaf out of Dollys book OP

RufustheFactualReindeer · Yesterday 16:11

And so should a goodly portion of the people commenting under the article…

PronounssheRa · Yesterday 16:12

JKR posts a tribute to Dolly Parton, trans activist make it all about them.

Plus ça change

RufustheFactualReindeer · Yesterday 16:12

and the fact you are attempting a gotcha using the death of a wonderful women is disgraceful

dudsville · Yesterday 16:15

I'm not trying to be pretend baffled here, but I don't get the energy. JKR expressed something positive about DP, and that led to a lot of emotionally intense pile on about JKR. I think there's a trigger repsonse for some to anything JKR might say.

Dominoodles · Yesterday 16:15

Cool. Are you also shaming the people responding to her telling her she should have died instead, or staying that Dolly was a 'trumper' and so nothing of value was lost?

Or is all your ire saved for someone you've already decided you don't like, even when she posted a kind and very heartfelt tribute to a wonderful woman?

Is making the death of a lovely person about your own politics and the fact that you hate someone else really more important than honoring the actual death of a genuinely kind and generous woman?

And yet you call us cult members.

She deadnamed Dame Katy Denise?

How very dare she.

Honestly OP have you actually lost the plot?

AimsAndObjectives · Yesterday 16:16

When another user said she and Dolly had nothing in common, Rowling replied that “neither of us want Jolene to take our man.”

I actually laughed out loud when I read that on TwiX. JKR's wit is a thing of beauty.

Fuck me, I’ll be glad when the schools go back.

Or touting for clicks on the link.

Lets face it. Jk could say she had a sandwich for lunch and it would be twisted to be transphobic somehow.

I didn't click!!!

Whilst we are on the subject of Dame Katy though, I was so taken by her fund raising for chair poverty that I've donated every chair I own to her. I'm currently sat on the floor myself, but I believe the sacrifice is worth it if it helps some poor transwomen actually be able to finally sit on a chair.

Also <preens>... Dame Katy follows me on X. I feel so seen!

Keith, apparently. The dead name that is.

ItsCoolForCats · Yesterday 16:27

I saw this being discussed on Reddit. Basically, they were saying that unlike Dolly Parton, nobody will mourn JKR when she dies.

Putting aside all the legions of Harry Potter and Strike fans for a minute, what about all the people she has helped through her charities and donations? She is just as philanthropic as Dolly Parton was. Then there are all the women around the world who love her for standing up for women's sex-based rights, when others have been too cowardly to. And all the ordinary people who agree with her and love her wit and refusal to be cowed.

Yet there are people in echo chambers such as Reddit, deluding themselves that nobody would care if she died. Whatever brings them comfort I suppose.
