Gender-fluid police given male and female warrant cards

Forces including those in Suffolk, Norfolk and Leicestershire confirmed they had issued more than one card to officers who said they identified as both male and female. ...

Norfolk and Suffolk, which have combined HR and support departments, have a Trans Equality at Work policy that states:

“Transitioning individuals are likely to want their warrant cards and staff identity cards updated. These may need to be updated more than once to reflect an individual’s physical changes.

“The organisation will be able to issue dual or multiple cards for those who are transitioning or are gender-fluid if this is specifically requested.

“If an individual does transition fully to their chosen gender then they must relinquish their dual cards so that a single card can be issued in their chosen identity. Individuals transitioning may also want to change their collar or pay number, and should be consulted as to their preference.”

The policy also allows officers to “wear items that assist in their gender confirmation/identity according to their needs, eg wearing a wig, prosthetics, binders” and warns officers against “dead-naming” their colleagues.

It follows guidance in 2018, written by Stonewall in partnership with the NPCC, which stated that “individuals who identify as gender-fluid may require two cards to reflect their gender on different days”.

The guidance has since been removed from the NPCC website. A spokesman confirmed that the organisation did not have any live guidance on the issue.

Some forces have refused to issue multiple cards. South Yorkshire Police said that it would not do so for “security reasons”.

Harry Miller, a former police officer and founder of the campaign group Fair Cop, told The Telegraph: “Allowing an officer to be a man one day and a woman the next is one of the stupidest things that I have heard. ...

Wow that’s great! I am moving to Norfolk! Long may common sense prevail 👏

AstonCanKissMyArse · 26/08/2026 20:08

The whole point of ID numbers and cards is that you can identify someone.

Having multiple identities invalidates the point of these things.

As for 'well people are going to do bad things anyway so we should just let them' - ridiculous non logic. People speed and shop lift but we still have laws that say they shouldn't.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/08/2026 14:09

It's very telling about the level of capture that trans extremists have over the police isn't it?
When the story broke, in a well run, community service focussed force, the Comms department would have been out of the blocks issuing a statement of clear denial. In forces that have spent years dabbling in enabling fetish and dancing at Pride, they're completely unable to utter anything coherent or ethical in the face of such dangerous nonsense.
Utter clowns.

Schrödinger's gender. It's both equivalent to biological sex and not, at the same time...

Very good 😂

I don’t see the problem with this. All the problems people are taking about in the replies are problems that existed regardless, and the only way to stop that is to completely change the police system. It’s proven that trans people are far less likely to abuse a position of power or commit a crime then cis people.

Can you back this rather bold claim up with any data or stats?

Wishesandhorses · 26/08/2026 09:59

You don’t see the problem with police officers interacting with the public using multiple identities?

It’s proven that trans people are far less likely to abuse a position of power or commit a crime then cis people.

There is very little reliable data on what trans people do or don’t do because it’s so difficult to objectively and clearly define trans. (See the last census results). If it includes people whose gender identity changes from one day to the next, it goes beyond the scope of people covered by ‘gender reassignment’.

I think that you might be saying “people in my tribe are nice and people outside my tribe aren’t”. I’m sure you could get plenty of support for that sentiment within the Reform party, but it isn’t a good basis for police policy.

Not to mention, what damage does this kind of thing do to the image of TQ people? It's like the whole business around a man with a gender identity going to provide health care to a woman who asked for a same sex carer. The immediate question arises: if this person's main focus is themselves and their self expression, and this highly ethical, demanding job they've chosen, and the people they should be responsible for, many of whom will be very vulnerable, is seen firstly to them as a vehicle for their self expression -

should this person being doing the job at all?

And if 'trans' is being used as a reason to excuse it, then there's no point complaining when the general public increasingly link 'trans' and 'dodgy practice with very little respect for others', and react accordingly.

If you claim to be a man one day and a woman the next, you're completely unsuitable to be a police officer or to work in any place where you'll come into contact with children.

Absolutely.

Glamourreader · 26/08/2026 08:52

I'm encouraged by the response, he does need to go further and stop identity cards being issued indicating the wrong sex though. These things are important, it matters to the public that the police be clear and honest with them

We need to know the forces would not allow opposite sex searches etc. I'm aware of the court case about them stepping outside of PACE and it's dangerous and unacceptable.

Trans identifying males, whatever their profession, are men. Giving male police officers female warrant cards, when we know that male police officers often abuse their position to harm women, is a monstrous idea. Men are overwhelmingly more likely to commit sexual offences than women - put a man with those proclivities in a position of power and he's even more likely to do harm. Give them a document which 'proves' they are women, and their potential victims are far more likely to comply with bogus searches/arrests.

A man isn't less likely to commit sexual offences because he presents as a woman or holds 'female' ID. Indeed, the statistics for the crimes trans identifying men are in prison for committing suggest the opposite.

You might not see a problem with this, but thankfully the Norfolk PCC does.

We don’t accept the sex of women or female being prefixed.

Today, in a meeting with Deputy Chief Constable Marshall I was told that the policy was introduced a number of years ago prior to the supreme court hearing.

Have I misunderstood or do they really think that the FWS case has a bearing on whether police officers should have multiple IDs?

It’s not even clear that they would be covered by the PC of gender reassignment if they are switching back and forth.

MitheredNotDead · 26/08/2026 07:35

“I will continue, as Police and Crime Commissioner, to make sure this is the case and to challenge these absurdities if and when they arise.”

Well that’s refreshing!

IwantToRetire · 26/08/2026 01:21

Well that is good to hear. And it being said it such a straight forward and BS about not treading on any toes!

Thank you - that's reassuring.
Of course that should have been the immediate response from all the chief constables involved if they weren't signed up to Stonewall and the extreme trans lobby. What an embarrassment they all are to policing

How would it work in the Police computer systems? Do they have two identities. So any investigations they/them are involved with would it appear that they/them are two different officers. It might affect apparent man personpower. That more officers are assigned to a case then there actually are. That PC ACDCa was backed up by PC ACDCb but it was all actually the same plod. It might make electronic records very misleading not to mention confusing.

Or are the Police systems rewritten to account for this nonsense? That's not cost free.

Are they/them issued with two sets of uniform?

Very good points. Dare we surmise that the police haven't considered these issues at all? Well, FAFO, once they realize that squaring this circle is not only against the law, but is impossible.

I know there have to be people in the police forces who have brains. Now, we shall see if any if them have the courage to stand up to unhinged, male activists.

Any police officer who thinks he or she can demand to become whichever sex he or she chooses on any given day, and then switch back again, is not acting in good faith or supporting their communities in good faith. That person is thinking solely about his/herself.

So far away from "policing by consent" that they might as well be on another planet.

Norfolking clue , Suffolking ridiculous and Leicestershirely you can't be serious.

It's so ridiculous it should be funny, but it's really not.

iwishitwouldstartraining · 24/08/2026 10:59

Even leaving aside gender issues, how can anyone think that multiple warrant cards for multiple identities is a good idea?

BridgetYourFortyDaysAreUp · 24/08/2026 10:54

Castolaya · 24/08/2026 07:23

Where have all these gender fluids come from now. This ideology has really shown up how people will do and go along with any mad ideas just to keep the peace. “No” is actually an ok word to use when it’s appropriate.

Edited

It's the non-binary trend gathering momentum. It's no longer interesting or edgy enough to be trans-identified. It's becoming passé, it's not supported in law the way that activists wish it were (although people who are "gender reassigned" whatever that means are protected from discrimination under the EA 2010), and it's becoming what "old people" are (many Gen Z "kids" are rapidly approaching 30, and Gen A kids seem to be less intrigued by "trans").

Non-binary seems to be the identity of choice at the moment, leading on from "Trans+" (although it's not protected in law), and is an easier way to signal your virtye/allyship without actually having to do anything at all.

Some activists appear to be pushing the non-binary angle as a way of getting around the law and EHRC guidance. It's one to watch.

So is it a game of chess?

They say woman, so I say I'm a man? Flip flop all the way home.

Ah, but they’ve got an official card. You don’t. So ner-ner-n’ner-ner!

DizzyWhoreEighteenHundredAndFour · 24/08/2026 10:48

The implications of this in the light of cases such as Sarah Everard are pretty terrifying. If a male police officer shows his 'female' warrant card to a lone woman in order to carry out a bogus search/arrest, my guess is that some women would be more likely to comply. Particularly if the officer is at first glance more 'passing'.

After all the scandals some forces have brought upon themselves due to violent misogyny in their ranks you'd think they wouldn't touch this with a bargepole.
