Updated NHS single sex guidance to be published on Thursday 20th August

SEEN in Health are a very reputable source, but they can only go on the information they are given. If NHSE decided not to publish today, for whatever reason, SEEN won’t likely have had any prior notice of that.

I'll expect a lot of gronda-ing to the aspidistra in the process of the heinous evil of having to act to respect and boundary womens needs at all. To the True Believers even to consider women is a sin; the righteous discard them as having no needs, views or wishes that matter.

The NHS is one of the worst bastions. Even a grudging acceptance and boundary around women's services and resources while gold plating the very special provisions made for the more important is a start. And it will mean women not being on wards with men, some of whom as evidenced, have thoroughly enjoyed their time there abusing and sexually harassing those women, and in one case, raping them.

This is the obvious “solution”, not that it is at all a satisfactory solution and stinks of a panic reaction to shut up the loud voices, but then you have to factor in the patients who need single rooms because of a known infection. Where will they be put! You can’t have patients with known infections on an open ward.

I really think they have to bite the bullet and make sure all the male urine receptacles are kept in the same place, not scattered about randomly in case someone on a female ward needs one for their lady dick.

I'll take a punt before we see it that you won't be able to guarantee being on a female only ward if you do. "Operational pressures" will override that.

I'm going to be absolutely furious if this results in all the trans people getting the few available NHS private rooms, but I'll bet my bottom dollar it does.

I’ll be reading with interest - especially the annexes. That’s where the old version hid the exemptions that required the NHS to enforce self ID for trans patients. The exemptions around A&E, ICU etc were up-front and obvious.

I have just had a very, very suspicious thought.

What are the chances of this being released on GCSE results day? On a day where there is guaranteed to be a big news story??

Up with delightful menopausal insomnia so I have been digging about ye olde internet, as you do.

The new 'delivering single sex accommodation' looks like it will be known as 'Privacy, dignity and safety in hospital accommodation' so this new phrase will be useful when we are looking for updates later this morning.

Nothing as yet to be found, I don't suppose an overnight release will happen.

I have had a rootle in the drinks cabinet and might create a sort-of Pan Galactic gargle blaster from left over trifle sherry, tia maria and orange bitters to knock me out.

Just before Christmas my dear friend ( female) was on a mixed ward, but it was an acute stroke ward of 6 beds and none of the extremely unwell patients would have been able to tell you their own sex let alone the sex of anyone else on the the ward. She was then moved to another HD ward, still mixed but with separate bays before finally being moved to an all female ward where thank goodness she made an amazing recovery. There are times when mixed wards are appropriate, but as soon as patients are aware of their surroundings then they should be in single sex wards.

Watch out for the exemptions.

There are exemptions already for men and women sharing which the NHS was supposed to work towards minimising for years but they just kick the can citing staffing and funding.

Good, thanks for this @Whatchamacallitt . I'm looking forward to seeing what it says, and if they finally understand that women's privacy, safety, and dignity in healthcare actually exists, and that they need to obey the law, or, I, for one, will be coming for them one day.

Still, it's actions that will determine how I and other women proceed. As I have said on another thread, words are indeed powerful and have meaning. And the words in the EA 2010 and the SC ruling 2025 are the ones I will be quoting to the NHS, no matter what the words in their own policies say.
