How strange that you seem quite to have failed to read the post you replied to. It quite specifically did not cast any doubt on the individual's sex, merely suggested that it would be easily possible to quash any further doubts expressed about it by anyone.

But then, the guilty flee where no man pursueth, so you probably just assume attack where none has been made, and take offence where none has been given.

Rather reminds me of the line ‘Oh! let us never, never doubt What nobody is sure about!‘ from ‘The Microbe’ by Hilaire Belloc. When people lack solid facts, the more they exude an unfounded confidence to compensate for said dearth to bolster what only amounts to their opinion.

I'd definitely be interested in Britney Griner publicly taking that cheek-swab and putting paid once for all to rumours about her sex. I'd think it would be to Griner's advantage to do so, on the whole: all the scuttlebutt must be a complete pain, being liable to mess things up unexpectedly and at the very least causing unnecessary stress.

Yes, that’s what they should say, and what they should do, but they know it will make them look stupid, and they’re too proud and vain to humble themselves like that.

So they’re trying to find a way around it that doesn’t involve that. They can’t. They are stuck.

Option one: release a statement like that and accept the humbling that comes with it and have to be contrite, or apologise, or self damaging (people will probably have to lose it change their jobs as a result)

Option two: keep pretending males in women’s sport isn’t a problem until their hand is forced and they look stupid then.

Basically, they need to rip the band aid off and swallow their pride.

The statement they release can go:
We did not previously realise that some players with a female habitus are actually male. We apologise unreservedly to those players for failing to check their eligibility sooner. It is entirely down to our failure to verify sex sooner that those players have been allowed to believe that they are eligible when in fact they are not.

Because it’s likely they already have males with DSDs in the competition. They know that implementing a a sex screening policy will confirm what many have suspected for a while about certain players, and they’ll have to explain why they’ve been allowing males in the WNBA already.

Something came through my news feed where the said the capture was due to the LGBTQ status of many players/fans. That sounds reasonable as I believe we see that in women’s football too.

Given that basketball is an Olympic sport, I don't understand why they don't just copy the rules used by the Olympics.

This movement is very much based in language and the use of language to remove boundaries and destroy categories. He really does sound indistinguishable from some of the 'serious' woman-wannabes - I can see why this really pisses them off.

The WNBA Should Enact “Female-Only” Eligibility Criteria

I am calling on the WNBA to explicitly clarify that “woman” means female for eligibility purposes, and to protect fair and safe competition for female athletes.

The issue is not complicated. The WNBA exists for women and their fans. Biological female athletes deserve clear rules that ensure fair competition and uphold the opportunities that women's sports advocates have worked over decades to create and provide.

The NBA Board of Governors approved the WNBA in 1996, paving the way for elite female basketball players to have what previous generations were denied: a professional league and the chance to compete at the highest level.

The fundamental reason for separate categories in women's sports is obvious: biological differences lead to significant male / female disparities in strength, speed, power, and other physical traits that are crucial at the highest levels of competition.

Acknowledging these realities is not a mark of disrespect for women. We are designed perfectly, on a different developmental pathway from men.

Formal sex-segregation creates opportunities for females that wouldn’t exist if there were just one sports team. Strict enforcement of a female-only category is the only way to guarantee that right for the WNBA players and the league.

We urge the WNBA to restrict eligibility to biological women who have been female since birth. This is consistent with the International Olympic Committee, the NCAA, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, World Aquatics, and World Athletics, and is consistent with other sport categories that are strictly enforced - including age, weight, equipment, and drug testing. The female category should be enforced through sex screening, as the Women’s Tennis Association, another all-female professional league, now does.

Roster spots, records, championships, and careers are at stake. Our athletes deserve clarity, not ambiguity. We must apply the same rules consistently and allow women’s basketball to focus on the game itself.

It’s time for the WNBA to clearly define the "W" once and for all, ensuring that the next generation of women can trust in the integrity of their sport.
